Hi all, I wasn't sure if Raahh was around so I thought I would start a new thread (thanks ferrier) in case of any urgent tennis news that we might need to start posting about immediately! I'm looking forward to Shanghai this week Smile

Really close now this set. Marin's got the wobbly leg serve going on.

Lol AC just tricked Tim into talking about when he lost to Cilic at Queen's, when Cilic was a gangly teenager and Tim was a seasoned grass court expert Grin

Raahh · 12/11/2018 15:39

just got home.
Marin! you were winning that set!
right, focus!Grin

JaneJeffer · 12/11/2018 15:47

I'm going demented dealing with Microsoft "support " . I want to watch the tennis Angry

Raahh · 12/11/2018 16:07

that's rubbish, jane.
Cilic is going to be very annoyed with himself if he loses this match, he has had so many chances.

PrivateParkin · 12/11/2018 16:16

Ugh good luck with Microsoft Jane! I hate having to sort out anything like that.

This match is like the story of Cilic's last 6 months, in one match Hmm

OP posts:
Raahh · 12/11/2018 16:25

private it really is.Sad

PrivateParkin · 12/11/2018 16:36

Well that was a bit meh, as I believe the kids say these days?!

Still, at least there's Djokovic v Isner to look forward to tonight Hmm

Presume it's not on BBC though?

Just finished ironing and was going to put the tennis on but presume after your comment Private that it was a Zverev win? Cilic will be kicking himself after that 1st set. Think BBC only have afternoon sessions during the week.

magimedi · 12/11/2018 16:51

I fell asleep for half that match!! Not very exciting & I don't like Sacha's continual fist pumping.

PrivateParkin · 12/11/2018 17:02

I don't either magi. He's good at best of 3 set matches I suppose, but I'm not really convinced by him.

Just saw the end of Cilic/Zverev. It's a bit annoying that BBC only have day sessions - they'll be over or almost over by the time I get home from work. Saw a lot more after the match than I did of the match itself - seemed like I'd tuned in for another episode of "Andrew Castle mispronounces next gen players names" - Tsitsipas, De Minaur, and I think there was someone else yesterday too.

I imagine I'm a bit behind the times (I'd forgotten about this thread), but I enjoyed the next gen finals, although I'm not that impressed with Tsitsipas - this was the first time I'd really seen him play, and although he plays well, his attitude is a bit wanting, especially compared to other players his age. The headset smash was the worst incident - nowhere near Kyrigos levels, but still bad enough...

I was, as usual, impressed with De Minaur, and Taylor Fritz came across really well, with a great attitude, really mature and reflective in his headset sessions with his coach mid-match.

PrivateParkin · 12/11/2018 17:48

GetTheGoodLookingGuy yes I think the beeb just had to fill the time somehow - unfortunately Grin

That's a shame about Tsitsipas - to be honest up until the next gen tournaments I'd quite liked his attitude and demeanour, but there have been a couple of things lately that have made me Hmm - the main one being when he said it was the ball kids' "job" to fetch his towels. It just doesn't come across well - I don't know if it's just lost in translation or what. I love his style of play though and so I'm definitely giving him the benefit of the doubt for now.

I agree with you about Taylor Fritz though, now he does seem like a nice young man!

Didn’t get to see any of the tennis this afternoon - I always get nervous when Cilic starts with the wobbly leg serve. His year doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

Taylor Fritz is married with two children - he doesn’t look old enough!

It is s shame about Tsitsipas - I thought he seemed like a nice young man.

Think I might give the Djokovic/Isner match a miss - that’s if it’s actually on tv. Isn’t it on bbc4 any more?

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 12/11/2018 18:33

PrivateParkin I went into this tournament prepared to like Tsitsipas because everyone's generally so positive about him (and I was fairly impressed with how he replied to that video of him and the ball girl with the new racket wraper), but I think the main problem with that is that I'm a big De Minaur fan, and since he and Tsitsipas were in such direct competition all the way through, I was slightly biased against Tsitsipas.

WRT young players attitudes, I think both Kyle Edmund and Cam Norrie come across really well too.

(Oh and the other player who's name Andrew Castle was mispronouncing was Khachanov, but I suppose he can be forgiven on that one because there's been a lot of discussion around the correct pronounciation. Tell you what I'd really love - a video of tennis players pronouncing their own names, so we can make sure we've all got them right!)

PrivateParkin · 12/11/2018 18:48

Yes I think he handled the racquet cover issue really well: apologised, said it wasn't a good look, and seemed to have quite a lot of self awareness about it. So it was a bit odd when he made those other comments later. I didn't see the headset smash though Shock

I do like DeMinaur. He's the kind of player who will do well imho because of his attitude/work ethic etc. He's obviously v talented/so quick as well. But a lot of players have amazing skills and don't really live up to them for whatever reason, but I think he will.

On the tennis podcast they said they had a recording of Khachanov saying his own name, but annoyingly they didn't actually play it! I think they were saying it Ha-CHA-nov which presumably is correct!!

Tsitsipas headset smash And then he got a medical timeout for the injury he caused to his finger in the process.

magimedi · 12/11/2018 19:29

9pm ITV - Running Wild with Bear Grylls is with Federer.

PrivateParkin · 12/11/2018 19:34

magi I thought I was on the wrong thread there for a minute!! Grin

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 12/11/2018 19:37

Yikes that headset smash!! At least when they smash their racquets, it's their own property! Presume the headsets aren't?

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 12/11/2018 21:16

Roger has a beard on the Bear Grylls programme!

Raahh · 12/11/2018 21:34

been a busy evening, but I've just caught the scores, looks like Djok won his match.

BeaLola · 12/11/2018 22:46

Disappointing afternoon match - I thought my ironing would g o quicker but Cillic never looked comfortable it was a bit meh!

Looking forward to tomorrow now - I wonder if Anderson & Nishokori will go to 3 sets ? If Federe pulls out who stands in ?

At least the BBC have the final at the weekend on to - but annoying that before it's only afternoon play.

BeaLola · 13/11/2018 14:00

Well they showed a VT during the doubles of the players on the tube and they asked Akex Z why he had no socks ! They all looked pretty chilled especially Marin.

Doubles was good . Just waiting for Anderson and Nishikori Smile

JaneJeffer · 13/11/2018 14:01

Sascha's ankles were definitely chilled Bea
