Cant see another thread - anyone watching?

OP posts:

I don’t think it could have been her who gave the baby the wrong medication as he was still alive when they arrived in Melbourne and she had been asleep for a while. If that is the case, it must have been Alistair I think.

Actually, the baby must have been alive when they put him the car or they would have noticed then. Whoever put him in would anyway.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/10/2018 07:25

Maybe Alistair topped up meds when Jo went off to get the coffees (at the airport)?

MsMiaWallace · 10/10/2018 07:51

I just assumed that was infacol for teething on the plane.
Could be wrong!

SouthWestmom · 10/10/2018 07:52

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 thank you I was really confused by the many bottles as she seemed to drink some as did the baby. I thought she was testing it, or taking a glug of his! Didn't realise there were two types.

MsMiaWallace · 10/10/2018 08:05

Alastair is very snake like though!
I believe he is behind death of baby or plan of 'losing' baby

pepperjack · 10/10/2018 10:20

For those who've read the book, does the narrative jump around timewise?

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2018 10:34

Yes Pepperjack but the date and place are made clear in the chapter headings.

abacucat · 10/10/2018 10:38

I can't imagine the baby is still alive, but it would be great if he was.

mishfish · 10/10/2018 10:57

Started watching this last night.

My theory: Same as above regarding medicine mix up on the flight. Baby alive when they leave airport. Pull over to stretch legs at the shack and when the car door opens that's when Jo discovers that Noah is dead. Them arguing at the side of the road that the man witnesses if her reacting to discovering that her baby has died. Agree he's convinced her to cover up as either 1) it'll look bad on the custody case and 2) maybe he's convinced her it was her fault as she gave the baby the medicine? Alex has dirty hands when she needed to use the loo at the garage, i'm wondering if she's been coerced into disposing of the body? OR this is all premeditated by dick head dad and Alex to get rid of Jo and live happily ever after with Chloe?

Can't wait for the next episode

Everincreasingfrequency · 10/10/2018 13:45

I agree with the mixed up meds theory, but there is a flaw in it; if Jo and Al discovered that Noah had died in the car, surely it just would not occur to them that it was because of a mistake with the medicine - wouldn't they think it was sudden infant death syndrom and immediately call the paramedics just in case there was a chance?

In other words they wouldn't have thought there was any 'need' for a cover up, even taking into account Al's warped view of the world (and it truly is warped - 'put something in writing' to the journalist! as if he's doing a business transaction about his missing baby)

abacucat · 10/10/2018 14:08

Yes that is very true. Babies die of SIDS, so why would they assume he had been poisoned? Great point.

ButtonMoonLoon · 10/10/2018 15:10

I reckon the husband and ex wife have hatched the plan to frame Joanna and run off into the sunset with both children.

MissEliza · 10/10/2018 17:07

Bore I always prefer books to screen.. IHowever i watched Big Little Lies before realising it was originally a book. I decided the actresses had done such a great job I didn't want to spoil it by finding out the book was better IYSWIM. Lianne Moriarty is my favourite writer now though.

mishfish · 10/10/2018 17:17

Also. I think she was holding a dead Noah when the house keeper walked in. That’s why she was sick as the shock of it all was too much, and why twathead wanted her out ASAP. I’m not sure how I think they hid the body yet though

Clawdy · 10/10/2018 17:20

Or she wasn't holding a baby at all, it was just a bundle meant to look like a baby.

ButtonMoonLoon · 10/10/2018 17:56

Or she was distraught at the fact her baby was about to be taken from her and hidden.....

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 10/10/2018 19:01

I think Alisdair doesn't want Jo to go in the car on her own because he's afraid that she might go back to where they left Noah (dead or alive) and alert the authorities. He's very much the puppet master in whatever the situation they have got themselves into.

Clawdy · 10/10/2018 19:20

I think Alistair may turn out to be not so bad. The controlling partner storyline has been done to death, I hope this drama has a better twist than that.

SoupDragon · 10/10/2018 19:29

Or she wasn't holding a baby at all, it was just a bundle meant to look like a baby.

That’s true. You don’t see any bit of the baby at all.

53rdWay · 10/10/2018 20:06

I did wonder if Jo's memories were meant to be 100% accurate. Everyone was so mean on the plane including the cabin crew, and before that that the woman she bumps into from her baby group who makes a passive-aggressive comment about her dressing the baby too warmly and swans off. Maybe interpreting situation as bleaker than it is, seen through a haze of difficult-baby-and-unsupportive-husband?

Everincreasingfrequency · 10/10/2018 20:20

Oh good point 53rd, I wonder if we'll get a replay of some of the scenes from the other person's point of view - those are always fascinating!
(I found the joke on the plane about giving the baby scotch quite amusing - but I suppose it might not have seemed it if you were in Jo's position. Very unconvincing that Al had slept through all the crying though)

StripySocksAndDocs · 10/10/2018 20:27

oooh i like that idea 53rdWay. It would also explain the extreme lazy arse horrible man and why she doesn't seem (in the memories) say anything bar the bit about sleeping most of the flight at the end of the flight. (rather than when he had put on the eye mask and ear plugs in.)

Bestseller · 10/10/2018 20:50

I'm starting to think Joanna may be the villan here - she was first to refer to changing the rules. If she was so controlled by him surely she'd have to stick to his rules and wouldn't risk suggesting a change.

OhHolyFuck · 10/10/2018 21:34

Wild card but I think 14 year old Chloe is involved - they've hinted at her having a temper with the hitting teacher thing and maybe if she thinks her dad is devastated by losing his baby, he'll go back home and leave her with her mum

Orlandointhewilderness · 10/10/2018 21:49

plus holy the bootee was found in her room....

seems a little obvious for week 2 though.

Yep i wondered if they had planned this.
