I am so bored with the sodding handshakes now.

LittleBearPad · 25/09/2018 21:21

Sorry I’m about 40 minutes behind but Dh Isn’t here for me to moan at.

PepperAnne · 25/09/2018 21:24

Just come here to share my heartbreak at Terry 💔 feel like I should have him over for Sunday dinner asap

HildaZelda · 25/09/2018 21:36

Aw, poor old Terry :(
Delighted to see the back of Karen thiugh. Hated her since week one.
Hope Dan fucks off next week. Drama queen Hmm

I'm not mad about KJ, but she definitely deserved SB tonight.

Would love to see Rahul and Jon in the final.

BestIsWest · 25/09/2018 21:45

I really liked Karen. Right decision for her to go but I will miss her.

Poor Terry.

choccyp1g · 25/09/2018 22:00

The Middle Eastern biscuits must be where the idea for Fig Rolls came from.

jay55 · 25/09/2018 22:08

The ginger cakes seemed more like show stoppers from some of them.

Super pleased with the star baker, was very relieved it wasn't Rahul again who is annoying me immensely. Can't understand why people think he's cute when he's so annoying.

StripySocksAndDocs · 25/09/2018 22:58

Where’s Terry from?

Showstoppers are getting stupid, next week will be a filo pastry sculpture of Paul suspended from a swing. (Made in less time than pastry can be baked in.)

raisedbyguineapigs · 25/09/2018 23:06

The two going was obvious this week. I felt sorry for them. Karen didn't annoy me as much as some of them. Ruby is getting good too. I agree about the showstoppers. Where are they going to go with them? Why do you need a biscuit chandelier? I had turmeric lattes loads last winter. They're good as a cold remedy. Can't imagine they'd make particularly nice biscuits though

LoisWilkerson1 · 25/09/2018 23:14

Manon blowing all over her biscuits gave me the hurls Envy

PollyFlinderz · 26/09/2018 05:18

Mahmul is delicious but Paul got it completely wrong when he said they’re eaten at the end of Ramadan. They’re actually eaten all year round and are as common in day to day life as a digestive biscuit

wowfudge · 26/09/2018 07:15

Manon wasn't the only one blowing her biscuits!

Taffeta · 26/09/2018 07:59

I want mahmul every day!!

[stomps feet]

Sod bloody digestives Hmm

Mrsmadevans · 26/09/2018 08:09

'Hope Dan fucks off next week. Drama queen'
OH MY l cannot bear him and his awful gums Hmm

glamorousgrandmother · 26/09/2018 08:35

Kim-Joy deserved star baker her biscuit mobile was exquisite. Rahul looks so nervous if (or when - I think KJ could win it) I think he will crumple completely and die of shame.

ppeatfruit · 26/09/2018 09:19

I like spices but I LOVE ginger in all it's forms!!! I love ginger chocolate too which is not easy to get. (esp. in Fr.) So I have to make it with ginger essential oil G & B's dark ginger choc IS AMAZING!!!! DH has bought me some from Waitrose (he's just driven back from London) they are sitting beside me !!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/09/2018 10:08

Can't understand why people think he's cute when he's so annoying

I agree Jayy - I could slap him!

Igottastartthinkingbee · 26/09/2018 10:09

Terry sounds like he’s from West Midlands to me. A bit brummy.

DarlingNikita · 26/09/2018 10:48

Dan was stropping about for the whole show like a petulant teen. I really dislike him.

Is it just me who finds that Kim Joy reminds me of the Why bird from playdays??

Just looked it up. By George, you're right Grin I'm glad she got Star Baker. Her showstopper was beautiful. But why didn't Sandi do the 'this week's Star Baker made a ginger delight, was technically hot stuff and...' blah blah blah? She just went 'It's Kim-Joy!'

Rahul's showstopper was lovely too. I found Manon's underwhelming. Terry's looked like roadkill. Sorry Terry.

I didn't like them showing him crying and talking about his wife; BBC Bake Off never went for mawkish, exploitative emotion like that. I find it intrusive and insensitive. I always remember how Mel and Sue used to stand next to upset bakers and say unbroadcastable words so they couldn't use the footage of them when they were emotional. Far more classy.

Have been reflecting on the series so far and have to say I fear the programme is veering off in a disappointing direction from my pov - as previous posters have mentioned the challenges and 'bakes' are getting more and more arcane/bizarre. I am not learning many practical tips about anything I would realistically want to bake. I am not sure being alert to the pitfalls of constructing a biscuit chandelier will come in terribly useful.

I do expect the showstoppers to be theatrical above and beyond taste and texture, and I am realistic enough to expect the production values to include editing 'personality' to encourage us to have favourites and keep watching. I wonder if Mary Berry had enough influence to keep the content more grounded and dare I say educational in the past? Or do the producers just fear repetition and are scraping the barrel casting too big a net to come up with themes? And have the competitors been briefed that 'traditional' flavours and combinations will be marked down? Hmmm. off to console myself and bake some garlic and petroleum shortbread. Feel free to berate me with your rolling pins.

DarlingNikita · 26/09/2018 11:36

whatashower, I agree. I'm not sure even MBez has that kind of power, though, TBH; I suspect it's more down to Channel 4 briefing the production team on what kind of Bake Off they want, and, being Channel 4, it's a more sensational kind of Bake Off.

For me the personalities, Noel and Sandi and the competition element is enough to keep me watching, but I find the increasingly silly showstoppers very annoying, and I do miss the little educational bits when Mel or Sue would trot off to gently take the piss out of a baker in Bruges or whatever.

whatashower · 26/09/2018 11:50

darlingnikita yes, this. Had almost forgotten the contextual footage, it would have been great to have a ma'amoul backstory and have seen Noel, Sandi or even Pru wandering around a souk ( as her tops and jewellery would fit in perfectly )

In fairness, the website is good, full of the actual recipes and I love the star bakes gallery from the public. But relieved you agree.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/09/2018 12:03

Caught up this morning. The right two went, I think, but I did feel sorry for them, especially Terry. He seemed so sad!

And I wouldn't say I'm warming to Kim Joy, but I respect her talent. She's an artist, really, who uses baking as her medium.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/09/2018 12:11

Oh yeah, and count me in as another one immensely irritated by Rahul!

iklboo · 26/09/2018 12:37

Or Noel singing to Prue:

'You & me baby ain't nothing but ma'amouls so let's do it like they do on The Discovery Channel' Grin
