Sorry Nikita - I was (supposedly joking) that you were content to be of the standard of a tabloid newspaper. Obviously didn't work and I will was the egg of my face now.

(I may be some time - there seems to be quite a lot).

I"ve just checked back and seen that Bryony is indeed missing the fingers of her left hand! How did I not notice that? (Mind - I worked for months with a colleague with a false arm and didn't notice that either until we were having a "girly squeal" at something, and I grabbed her prosthesis . . . Shock - I don't know who got the bigger shock)

Also - can someone give me a link to Dan's twitter page? I can't find it. I didn't think his comment about appearance vs taste was intended to be derogatory, myself- I thought it was more along the lines of "WOW! This could win on appearance alone!"

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/09/2018 16:58

*wash, the egg off my face, not was

Obviously.

DarlingNikita · 19/09/2018 17:09

I see, Schaden!

Yes, I spotted Briony's hand in Episode 1. I like that no one has mentioned it. It's just not a big deal. We've come a long way.

Taffeta · 19/09/2018 17:24

Yes I’m in the not sure it’s a bitchy comment camp as well.

Also, editing.

Those sneaky editing fuckers and their wily ways. Make it seem like Ruby’s a princess when she actually might be a bit of a dude.

DarlingNikita · 19/09/2018 18:18

Oh, I DO think Ruby's a dude! I mean, I wouldn't mess, but she's funny and sharp.

Dan's comment was not edited as far as I could tell, as in, I think he said 'I don't know what it tastes like, but it looks good' in that order (rather than saying the two sub-clauses separately and them editing them together.)

iklboo · 19/09/2018 18:27

Definitely not edited. It was all in one breath / statement. Certainly not like Grin

Taffeta · 19/09/2018 18:35

I didn’t mean I thought that particular comment was edited. I meant I didn’t think it was bitchy, plus I think there’s a whole load of jiggery pokery editing going on with all the contestants which by turns makes them look like twats (Karen), cute (Rahul), princessy (Ruby first two eps), man o the people (Jon) etc etc. Probably little bearing on what they are actually like.

Big question is......who would you want to get shitfaced with? Apart from Noel

iklboo · 19/09/2018 18:39

Ah I get you.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/09/2018 20:13

We would like to clarify that the phrase “spreading my meringue” is a legitimate baking term and should not be interpreted as a euphemism under any circumstances. Thank you.

Love this tweet on #gbbo

PollyFlinderz · 19/09/2018 20:51

Jon and Karen.

Prue.

gabsdot · 19/09/2018 21:10

Did they explain why Terry wasn't there?

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/09/2018 21:15

Just that he was 'poorly' gabsdot.

bookbook · 19/09/2018 23:21

well, I had a meeting last night, so have only just watched this on catch up. I personally think John should have been star baker - anyone wearing a pink tutu has every right to trump better taste !

I thought Briony was a goner , so do we think two will get kicked out next week ?

Toddlerteaplease · 20/09/2018 00:18

I thought Jon should have got star baker. He was consistently stronger all the way through.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/09/2018 07:01

I agree that Jon should have been start baker.

However, it seems that Dan has been the subject of Twitter abuse - I don't know what that would be. I can't find his account to have a nosey.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 20/09/2018 08:12

I bought some ready made pots of butterscotch angel delight for me for dcs lunches. They were disgusting and looked off. Is the powder stuff the same as it was in 1979? - raisedbyguineapigs it's similar but I think like everything, they've taken out some of the sugar/salt/naughtiness and it isn't quite as awesome as I remember it. Could be me though I suppose!

ppeatfruit · 20/09/2018 08:29

I was thinking how great it is that no one has commented about Briony's hand, which is how it should be !!

No one deserves horrible comments on twitter (except really horrible people like Trxxp but Dan comes over as a "me me me" type, I prefer Jon. I reckon the winner will be one of them.

Though I was impressed by Manon's showstopper (how she managed to make that white chocolate so beautiful , I have no idea!)

whatashower · 20/09/2018 09:15

Re angel delight, I found the powder pretty similar to that of old.....the chocolate one is good. And actually no artificial colour although it does have palm oil. As occasional vices go its not the worst for creaky menopausal women like myself #needmorecalcium

Hello fellow bake-off watchers, just saying hello then going to read back over the thread. I'm late to the party but I hope you don't mind.

After this week's episode I am loving Kim-Joy, 1) she baked cats into bread 2) The turtle dessert was the best thing I've seen for ages.

The truth is they are all really lovely but cats and turtles ...

I'll catch up - waves at everyone - Brew

wowfudge · 20/09/2018 10:03

Anyone remember Instant Whip - now that was vile. You added water rather than milk because it contained milk powder. It was AD's poor relation.

KittyKlawsReturns · 20/09/2018 10:05

Why don't they know the world rests on a giant turtle's back?

Exactly! Grin

I also loved Manon's lipstick and she made the most beautiful globe then looked effortlessly beautiful and chic while serving it - this shouldn't be allowed.

I know this may not be popular but Angel Delight is vile and blancmange makes me feel sick - even watching them scoop a bit of Pru's made me a bit queasy and believe me I don't say this lightly about a pudding. I'm generally in favour of all desserts.

KittyKlawsReturns · 20/09/2018 10:06

I hate blancmange and shudder at the thought of all those wobbly rabbits at parties in my childhood.

Hello you Wine

iklboo · 20/09/2018 10:07

Extra Slice will be....interesting....with no rejected baker to speak to.

CountessVonBoobs · 20/09/2018 10:15

I think one of the best things about GBBO and Our Great Nation is that nobody has mentioned Briony's hand and it's not mentioned in her contestant profile either. I'm pretty sure an American version would not have been able to resist going on about Her Bravery and how she had Triumphed Over Adversity to bake. I spotted her hand in the first episode, but DH hadn't noticed at all until I mentioned it to him.

KittyKlawsReturns · 20/09/2018 10:27

They do the 'sob-story' a lot in American baking and cooking shows. I tend to fast forward it, not interested.
