Ok. Please can I have someone sir next to me this eve to explain all the links in case I can't follow the story. Moves so quickly and sometimes my brain struggles to keep up.. Who's secret service, police, government, is Anne Sam's bent... Hope I'm not left confused. It was bad enough when I thought briefcase man was the same man as the police...🙄

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 23/09/2018 08:09

Ghad! Bloody Mr Squiffany (who has not been watching but plans to binge the entire series next week) has arranged dinner out with friends for tonight!
Tivo set to record and I plan to eat as fast as possible....

Handbaghag · 23/09/2018 08:20

The thing that makes me doubt her death cover up is it seemed her ex took her mum to the hospital and we saw her told some bad news?

QuaterMiss · 23/09/2018 08:26

I’m inclined to believe she is dead, but the fact that the disclosure of her death happened just as he got to the hospital would otherwise make me very suspicious indeed. It seemed stage managed. As did the ‘small, family funeral’. But I imagine these are red herrings designed to confuse us!

sofato5miles · 23/09/2018 08:54

I have been looking at the time line as I am bored(erline obsessed)

They moved into the hotel 26th Oct. Not sure when he became HS' PPO but train incident was 1st Oct. The bomb was 4th November.

TweeBee · 23/09/2018 10:34

I know the hospital would have been busy after the bomb, but surely there's no way they'd tell relatives she was dead just by the waiting room like that. How do we know that was even her mum????

Handbaghag · 23/09/2018 11:37

Good point tweebee. I just presumed...

Urbanbeetler · 23/09/2018 13:29

I assumed it could have been a set up - actors - after all slash Dave wouldn’t have known what the mum looked like...

QuaterMiss · 23/09/2018 13:45

Quite.

springydaff · 23/09/2018 13:45

All well and good but I'm getting a bit confused between this and Killing Eve

QuaterMiss · 23/09/2018 13:48

Damn this evening’s looking good!

(Have no TV. Usually happy without. Have invited myself to house with TV for tonight.)

Thighofrelief · 23/09/2018 13:54

Yes agree Slash has been to the Joey school of acting. Wasn't it smell the fart Joey called it. I do like a quiet man with military bearing though, reminds me of shagging squaddies in my youth Shock

DarlingNikita · 23/09/2018 14:00

Wasn't it smell the fart Joey called it

Yes, technically you do 'smell the fart' if you have to react to a dramatic event or news. Long division is for when you get bad news.Grin

I assumed it could have been a set up - actors - after all slash Dave wouldn’t have known what the mum looked like... This would be an elaborate set-up! I'm inclined to think she IS dead as so much of this kind of stuff would be required if it were a set-up, not to mention the collusion of the hospital staff, police, possibly Julia's family...

HOWEVER, the Guardian preview says the episode has a 'shattering denouement', which sounds like it COULD mean something as shocking as her death having been faked...

I don't know what to think or expect, TBH.

Urbanbeetler · 23/09/2018 14:16

I’m very excited about tonight’s episode!

Graphista · 23/09/2018 14:43

Lostinshoebiz - I was being sarcastic but appreciate that doesn't always come over right in text.

"Why didn't they check scarface's fingerprints - don't all army recruits have them done?" Already covered - army identification markers are held ONLY for the identification of those killed/injured in action and only IF personnel consent it's not compulsory - police etc aren't allowed to access them without obtaining (not sure which) a special warrant/court order. - come to that I can't remember - do they even know if Andy army yet?

Nothing wrong with scottish! But he's not my type (any more - he looks a lot like my ex BlushConfused)

Jux · 23/09/2018 14:43

The bad news could have been anything: Julia's death, being confined to a wheelchair, brain damage, paraplegic, blah blah blah. And then the gov might jave prevailed upon the family to hold a small funeral to keep Juliaout of the limelight while she's recovering, relearning, whatever.

I do think she's probably dead, though. Wishful thinking perhaps - it's better without her imo.

DeRigueurMortis · 23/09/2018 14:51

From the Evening Standard on tonight's episode:

A clue? The answer is in episode one. It’s as plain as day. It relies on a coincidence that isn’t plausible. Possibly that will unwind. But the main clue isn’t in the plot, or in the way the blood on Budd’s face dries into a Masonic symbol, it’s in the challenge Mercurio set himself. In episode one he was playing with tension. Yes, he gave it contemporary clothes Jihadis, Afghan vets, mendacious politicians, the whole post-truth show but the episode on the train was a ticking time-bomb.

Didn't help me in the slightest!!!

DarlingNikita · 23/09/2018 14:57

a coincidence that isn’t plausible

Is the 'coincidence' Budd being on the train with the suicide bomber on it?

And does that mean it was set up that he WOULD be on that train (by whom? How? Why?)

Or is Budd's PTSD going to explode ('scuse the slightly poor-taste metaphor) and drive him to do something desperate/stupid? ie is HE the 'ticking time-bomb'?

I don't really understand the references to 'the challenge Mercurio set himself', 'playing with tension' or 'contemporary clothes', though.

The bad news could have been anything: Julia's death, being confined to a wheelchair, brain damage, paraplegic
Except we did hear someone say, in an otherwise hushed exchange, 'We did everything we could'. And the family members acted the scene in a way that strongly suggested being given news of her death.

KnotsInMay · 23/09/2018 15:17

Oh no. I fear that ‘shattering’ means tragedy for SlashDave, Vicky and / or the kids.

KnotsInMay · 23/09/2018 15:21

I am now watching Ep 1 again but the bloody steaming has frozen Angry

Thighofrelief · 23/09/2018 15:25

When Slash was in the interview with Mrs Jihadi i thought she was looking to him for correct answers and she lingered a little over Mahmoods photo. I think Slash has masterminded something from before the train ie was train hero in order to be BG for JM.

Thighofrelief · 23/09/2018 15:29

I also think JM has been spirited away by the powers that be and will return. If they've employed KH wouldn't they use her to the end?

DarlingNikita · 23/09/2018 15:33

Thighofrelief, do you mean you think Mrs Jihadi is somehow in on it? (whatever 'it' is!)

I had thought something like this myself. I was wondering why she has been playing such a prominent role in it. Of course we're meant to think it's just because they're desperately questioning her in order to get to the bomb-maker/terrorist cell, but I think it's worth considering other possible reasons for her being so prominent. And I agree she seemed to be looking to Dave for correct answers and lingering over Mahmood's photo.

Re KH, JMerc is known for doing audacious things and has killed her off before, so I wouldn't be totally surprised in that sense if she remained dead.

DeRigueurMortis · 23/09/2018 15:41

The train is the obvious coincidence but I'm wondering if they meant something else?

The veterans meeting for example and who else was there?

DarlingNikita · 23/09/2018 15:46

DeRigueurMortis (love your name!)

Yes, possibly it's the veterans' meeting, although I'm still not totally straight on who was there/what it meant. Also, the Evening Standard does specifically talk about 'the episode on the train'.
