This is great from Mary Carillo - although not so much from the woman that put up to discuss it with her (surprisingly, it's someone who doesn't seem to know much about tennis)

Right that is my last word on it (I've definitely said that about 100 times already)

Carillo

Raahh · 11/09/2018 13:27

Jane controversial is right. The punchline is funny.

Private Mary was excellent. The whole thing is still making me cross. So much uninformed reporting.

And I am now watching the 'Tales of the Unexpected' leg of lamb episodeGrin

I’m still a bit traumatised about being in agreement with Andrew Castle. Sue Barker just loves Serena anyway - I don’t think she really agrees with her behaviour but doesn’t want to condemn her either. I really need to stop talking about as my blood pressure will rise!

I can’t imagine that Rafa will be playing for a while but we will see - Delpo also said that he was having a rest as well. I still haven’t watched the end of the match - can’t bear to see him upset Sad. Yes he can light my log fire any time he wants (channels Magi) Grin

Trying to have a sort out of the house - where does all the stuff come from?

Oh no not Tales of the Unexpected Raahh Grin - don’t watch the bee one!

Raahh · 11/09/2018 14:09

I'm hoping the Bee one will be on soon, FizzyGrin

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 11/09/2018 15:40

where does all the stuff come from? I'd like to know as well. I feel like I'm constantly decluttering and still there's loads to be sorted.

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2018 15:50

Mary Carillo was very good Private. The woman presenting the show has such a loud voice!

PrivateParkin · 11/09/2018 16:27

She does! I think she was on Mary's side though.

I hear you all with the de-cluttering. We had our house valued today, so I had to make it semi-tidy. I was basically just hiding as much stuff as possible. The photos will be trickier though - all those painstakingly built Lego sets will have to go somewhere!

I got irrationally annoyed earlier about Djokovic winning two slams with help from roofs (rooves?! Both look wrong). I'm not saying he wouldn't have won them without the roofs or am I but it obviously benefited him on both occasions. I know the Rafa match was technically a semi but it was pretty much the final really. It's harder to hit big winners against Djok on a slower court. It seems a bit wrong. Would he have won either of those matches on a hot day over 5sets? I know it's irrelevant now, but I wonder.

Anyway, ignore me, I'm just waffling on as usual.... Grin

Raahh · 11/09/2018 17:16

Private I have been muttering the same about the whole roof thing. The Wimbledon one was worse, because it made no sense. The argument was, that if the match started under the roof, then it had to finish under the same conditions.

Well , what about matches that start without a roof, and then it rains, and they finish under one? That's not the same conditions. If you follow the first argument, then you don't have a roof, and you wait til the rain stops. It can't be a traditional rule, since the roof has only been there since 2011!

Roofs/roovesGrin have annoyed my since Melbourne.

PrivateParkin · 11/09/2018 17:42

Raahh good, I'm glad you feel the same! I agree about the Wimbledon situation on the Saturday, it was ridiculous (on the Friday I was ready to kiss the roof, tbh, as it gave us Rafa and Novak, without it we would have been going home after Isner -Anderson!). I'm sure I read somewhere that they are going to reconsider the stupid "same conditions" rule. I don't think it's right that the players (or a player, in that case) can decide what happens.

I also think I read that Delpo owns a vineyard back in Argentina, and that's where he was going on his return from NYC (but I might have made that up/dreamt it) Grin

Raahh · 11/09/2018 17:49

He owns a vineyard?

I hope that's true. I just makes him even better. Grin

I mean yes, at least there was play because of the roof on the Friday. But that's the point of it, because of the risk of the weather/ darkness/ to allow a match to get underway) There was no need to close it on the Saturday.

Raahh · 11/09/2018 17:52

(I have tried to block out the end of the Isner/Anderson match from my mind. Not a fan of the sudden death tie break in the 5th at the US open, but I think there could be a compromise of a tie break after 12 games really. They could call it 'The Isner Rule' Grin).

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 11/09/2018 17:57

I'm still bitter about the roof at Wimbledon too (and the Isner/Anderson match).

Raahh · 11/09/2018 18:19

I was just glad it was Anderson who won. The final might not have been great, but it would have been far worse if Isner had been in it (really not an Isner fan ).

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 11/09/2018 20:06

I googled the vineyard thing - no results Grin

I'm sure I read it somewhere!

PrivateParkin · 11/09/2018 21:00

The Isner-Anderson match - I can barely remember any of it, probably because every rally was basically the same. Also I think we became delirious after about 12-15 games of set 5. Whereas the second match, I remember pretty much all of that!

I like the sound of the Isner Rule Grin

Raahh · 11/09/2018 21:04

Private Grin

It was so amazing, wasn't it? Once Rafa and Novak started playing? It showed what we'd missed whilst Djok was busy losing his mojo, and they both played so well.

I did feel for Anderson though, he'd played so well against Federer, and the crowd barely acknowledged him, Sadhe beat Isner, and the crowd were bored to tears by the end .Grin. Poor bloke.

BeaLola · 11/09/2018 21:22

If Delpo wasn’t already perfect a vineyard just about clinches it ! Is there anything g wrong with him ? - oh yes - he is young enough to be my son Shock and lives miles away inArgentina apart from that ... oh and I’m married and not his type - oh well Grin

Thank you all - I found you late but feel I have found my mumsnet home if I’m allowed to interrupt you (?)

Don’t like Isner and can’t feel the love for Novak either - he looks like he would iron his socks: gold his clothes before ravaging someone.

BeaLola · 11/09/2018 21:22

Not gold but gold his clothes ......

BeaLola · 11/09/2018 21:23

FOLD - blasted autocorrect !

Raahh · 11/09/2018 21:23

Bea Grin Oh yes, Novak definitely irons his socks!

Welcome, btw !

PrivateParkin · 11/09/2018 21:24

Yes definitely - it was a bit sad for Kevin, especially as he was done in for the final.

He seems like a really nice guy as well.

Speaking of nice guys of tennis, Grin Marin Cilic has been tweeting some lovely sunset pictures this evening!

PrivateParkin · 11/09/2018 21:30

Sorry x-post Bea

Lol at Novak - yes he's got sock-folder written all over him Grin. Also, you'd never be able to eat any proper food if you hung around with him. It'd be green juice and gluten free everything.

Whereas Delpo looks like a man who enjoys a steak. And wine. From his own imaginary vineyard.

Raahh · 11/09/2018 21:32

Oh, Marin has has always struck me as lovely.

PrivateParkin · 11/09/2018 21:34

I reckon the nice guy top 5 is:

Rafa
DelPo
Cilic
Anderson
Milkman

Honorary member: Tsonga

Thoughts?! Grin
