It's grim tonight

SouthWestmom · 24/09/2018 21:37

Why didn't they get the dogs they're earlier?

You'd always wonder how long he was alive for/if he was alive

Just getting to the end. How very sad. That poor family. That poor young man. Getting his Mum and Dad back together and then losing his Dad again. Heartbreaking.... 😪 😪 😪 😪 😪 😪 😪 😪 😪 😪

PawneeParksDept · 25/09/2018 01:34

This was incredibly sad. I know the area quite well too Sad

Sad outcome, his poor family Sad

MissEliza · 26/09/2018 10:49

That made me so sad. He had such a lovely family. I'm so sorry for those kids growing up without their dad.

TownHall · 26/09/2018 14:17

I found it very sad too. It was just such a waste of a life.

I've found this series captivating. I think it's brilliantly filmed as well.

spiderlight · 28/09/2018 16:11

Watched this last night - so terribly sad, especially for the children. I wondered as well about why dogs weren't used sooner.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/09/2018 16:14

Because in the spring /summer the foliage was too dense but in winter when they could eventually search it was sparse and easier to access. The officers did explain that.

spiderlight · 28/09/2018 16:16

I got that bit about the foliage, but I don't understand why dogs couldn't be used for tracking sooner to narrow the search area.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/09/2018 16:20

They can only follow a scent if they have the scent to start with iyswim. They didn’t know where he’d gone missing from.

spiderlight · 28/09/2018 16:30

Ah, OK. I had notions of them taking bloodhounds to the point of a reliable sighting, letting them sniff something of his from home and off they'd go, but it's probably not as simple as that in such a huge area. I probably watched too much Lassie as a child.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/09/2018 16:51

Yeah unfortunately they need a starting point and a fresh scent. Even then it’s quite hard. Things like rain, other people etc can all dilute the scent.
