This is fascinating.

And I was worried about the wife. That she's just fallen into the role of saviour and it's become her life's purpose. It's desperately sad that she's sacrificed her life for this 'true love' trope that's actually all about enabling an alcoholic and having a ready made purpose.

PawneeParksDept · 12/09/2018 11:22

I also found his clear favouring of their biological child uncomfortable

Toddlerteaplease · 12/09/2018 13:59

Yes. I felt sorry for the son a well. As the daughter was definitely the favourite and everyone knew it. She shouldn't have to be dealing with these issues at only 18.

headinhands · 12/09/2018 18:27

I know, when she said 'he's ringing me cos I'm his baby girl.' Felt awful for the rest. And he clearly wasn't just moping about in that derelict building for days as his phone still had battery. I can't help thinking he just went on a massive bender ignoring calls and then at the end though 'shit, better make out I've had an extra special mental health crisis.' See, I'm a total bitch.

MissEliza · 12/09/2018 19:23

I found George to be quite selfish but I have lived with an alcoholic so I'm not very objective. When his wife said he had a hundred pounds in his pocket, I fully expected him to show up once he drunk it all. He put his wife through hell. I hope he will beat his addictions and find a job but I think he has a long road ahead.

headinhands · 12/09/2018 19:28

I've known alcoholics too and yes they are selfish and manipulative. I know it's an illness but it's one that tends to act with absolute disregard for people they simultaneous claim to love.

MissEliza · 12/09/2018 19:49

I know exactly how it feels to stand by a family member and know you have to wait until they're ready. However George spending the £100 shopping money on drink really made me angry. They don't look like they have that money lying around.

headinhands · 12/09/2018 20:15

Didn't realise it was the shopping money. So he ran out of the cash then 'went off to kill himself' causing massive upset so that by the time he turned up they were just relieved and didn't justifiably rip his bollocks off.

headinhands · 12/09/2018 20:16

I so want the wife to want better for herself.

louise5754 · 12/09/2018 22:04

I felt for him but there is no way he slept in that field for 4 nights. Plus like others have said his phone was constantly charged. His wife and daughter were texting him and he ignored it. Depression is a horrible thing plus the alcoholism 😞 hadn't he just done a "detox" too? If he won't help himself I feel sorry for all involved.

MissEliza · 13/09/2018 09:51

I'm sure his wife said he had taken £100 out because they were going shopping after the job centre. Once I heard that, I thought yep, he's gone on a bender. I understand he's under a lot of stress having lost his job but I'm sure his wife is feeling the pressure too but she was trying to keep home and family together.

headinhands · 13/09/2018 18:07

I'm guessing career in supporting alcoholics wouldn't be a good idea for me. I appear to have had an empathy bypass Blush

MissEliza · 13/09/2018 23:10

I would actually like to do something to support the loved ones of alcoholics. I'll never forget the relief I felt when someone reached out to me.

headinhands · 14/09/2018 11:24

I could support the relatives no trouble, its the alcoholics I'd struggle with on account of knowing how invariably selfish and manipulative they are.

Elderflower14 · 17/09/2018 21:07

Jeffers3 · 17/09/2018 21:12

Elderflower14 · 17/09/2018 21:16

That police lady calling everyone "Mate" is so annoying!!

Jeffers3 · 17/09/2018 21:17

The poor son. So sad that he took her to all her appointments until now.

Elderflower14 · 17/09/2018 21:35

Looking like it, unfortunately

Toddlerteaplease · 17/09/2018 21:55

Oh that's so sad.

Elderflower14 · 17/09/2018 21:56

Her poor son. He must feel terrible.. 😪 😪 😪 😪 😪

BigfluffybearBum · 17/09/2018 21:56

Oh god love her. The son will have to live with the fact he couldn't give her a lift that day. No one needs to live with that
