Grin

I can't believe it's nearly September, really. I'm sure the Australian open has just finished. Grin

I'm going to spend the morning labelling school uniform . I really am.

I probably won't

Omg! Woke up and saw the match was still in progress so rushed downstairs -amazingly got Prime to work and saw the tiebreak and the end of the match - wow!

Looked like an amazing match - feel sorry for Thiem but he’s hopefully got lots of years ahead of him. Rafa will be knackered - will take a while to recover I think.

Now I’ve got to go to work Sad it’s a good job there’s a tiebreak in the fifth as I could have been sat in front if the telly for the rest of the day.

Mama1980 · 05/09/2018 07:33

Delpo has been looking really good, I agree, Rafa may struggle against him. He's going to be very tired too.
I love Delpo and if he does get through definitely want him for the title.

Raahh · 05/09/2018 07:42

MY post should read cools down.

Stupid phone.
Weather has played too big a part in this tournament so far!

It will be the same as at Wimbledon, for me, though- if Rafa is going to lose to anyone, I'd rather it was Delpo, and not Djok on Sunday.

Well that was a stressful start to the morning Grin off now, will be back for Cilic later.
Have a good day everyone.

Raahh · 05/09/2018 07:58
Grin

I was just about to post that I'd forgotten about Cilic- it's still possible (if he gets through today) that he can beat Djok in the semis.

And MIllman might surprise everyone.

It sounds like it was a very stressful match. Well done Rafa!

PrivateParkin · 05/09/2018 09:22

Rafa has just posted on twitter, at 3.30 in the morning or whatever it is over there, that it was a great match, Thiem is a great guy, that he loved the support etc - love him!!

I really wish I'd seen more of that match, I only saw the last few games. Will try and watch a replay today (or some of it anyway).

I'd sort of forgotten about Cilic too! I don't like it when tournaments split the same round up over different days (in the second week anyway), it's far too confusing!! So today it's Djokovic v Milkman and Cilic v Nishikori, right? I can't remember who's in the women's (except Suarez-Navarro, as she knocked out Shrieky!!)

My DS went back to school today, suddenly looking loads taller and older. I might have had something in my eye in the playground (especially when he didn't even wave to me!!).

JaneJeffer · 05/09/2018 09:27

Aww Private they grow up too fast. Every time I see DS2 in his secondary uniform I have to look twice!

magimedi · 05/09/2018 09:36

Private - Mine is nearer 40 than 30 & having an adult DC is wonderful - so much fun joy.

PrivateParkin · 05/09/2018 09:40

Ah thanks magi and Jane Smile

Raahh · 05/09/2018 10:01

I have finally calmed down. That was a much too stressful start to the morning. The only good thing about Friday night being similar (if Rafa is on late) will be not having anything to get up for. Well, apart from dd1's football- but that's no where near as early as school!

So, ds goes in for 11.30- totally stupid random time, imo. (although he was on a reduced timetable last term, and going in at similar times , due to all the problems he's had). I really need him back into a more 'normal' routine.

DD1 thinks it's great- she's in year 8, and they go back tomorrow!

Rafa is always lovely about his opponents. And the rivalry with Thiem has certainly stepped up a notch. Dom (a lot like Rafa) doesn't do so well indoors, so I don't know how he will do for the rest of the season, but hopefully he will have regained some momentum.

Raahh i hope all was ok for your DS today Flowers Mine is upstairs, drawing Harry Potter! As if he hasn't been sitting at a desk most of the day already Hmm

Looking forward to Cilic-Nishikori. Presuming Novak gets through (but I hope Milkman will give him a good match), Cilic probably has a better chance of beating him in the semis... but who knows??...

PrivateParkin · 05/09/2018 17:14

Great stat from the ATP (I love stuff like this)

Never in Open Era have 4 past champions been in SFs of a Grand Slam event (202 tournaments).

If @Cilic_Marin and
@DjokerNole win today, 4 former champions will play in #USOpen SFs (also @RafaelNadal
@DelPotroJuan)

Fizzywinegum · 05/09/2018 17:37

I’ve been feeling discombobulated all day after that stressful start this morning Smile

Hoping that Cilic and Milkman get to the semis but it’s likely to be Djokovic. I’ve not seen Nishikori play yet but he seems to have been winning his matches quite easily.

If Rafa does have to lose I wouldn’t mind so much if it was against Delpo - I wonder if it will be another epic 5 setter.

I like Osaka in the women’s quarters - she was really sweet and completely overcome in her last post match interview - so hope that she does well.

Raahh · 05/09/2018 17:59

Private ooh, I like that. I do love a good stat. Grin

Ds was ok. I think we are all going to have to play it by ear and keep everything crossed he gets through the year without any major incidents. Grin

Osaka is playing very well indeed. Could be a very short match.

Fizzy it took me a while to de-stress- far too early in the morning for that kind of thing. I will not be getting up to watch Djok and Millman! (But I'm not that invested in the result). Grin

Looking forward to Cilic now- Nishikori bores me, not his fault, he's never done anything offensive, I just can't get excited by him.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 05/09/2018 18:16

Aw Osaka is giving another cute interview: "I was freaking out" Grin

PrivateParkin · 05/09/2018 18:18

I'm just laughing to myself imagining Roger/Rafa etc saying they were"freaking out" in their on-court interview Grin

Raahh · 05/09/2018 18:19

And she likes that she didn't break a racquet Grin Not sure if she was referring to other players breaking them in temper, or just wear and tear Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 05/09/2018 18:25

Talking of stats- I had a look at the Race rankings- and Djok has now gone above Roger in the list. Still only Rafa has officially qualified. Grin (of course, the cut off only really matters near the end when it's down to a few points between who qualifies in 8th- like last year when Delpo missed out by about 20 points.). Shows just how far Novak has come back this year.

Delpo will almost certainly be in London this year, which is great.

OP posts:
Raahh · 05/09/2018 18:26

I am trying to imagine 'freaking out' in Rafa's accent now. Grin

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 05/09/2018 19:04

What do you reckon about that former champs stat then Raahh? Is it going to happen, or is someone Milkman going to upset the apple cart?!

Marin looks a bit different somehow... Like he's playing more quickly or something?

PrivateParkin · 05/09/2018 19:20

Andre is in the house!!

JaneJeffer · 05/09/2018 19:34

I'd like the the four champs to get through just because it's never happened before.

PrivateParkin · 05/09/2018 19:43

So would I. It seems so... satisfying, somehow.
