Grin

I can't believe it's nearly September, really. I'm sure the Australian open has just finished. Grin

I'm going to spend the morning labelling school uniform . I really am.

I probably won't

This is ridiculous- I was checking scores for something else - and now know the result (not that it's a surprise), since there's a massive delay between this and the the almost actually live US open website.

Also because the match on Armstrong finished earlier too- that is both main show courts now , with no play for over 2 hours.

Barmy.

Am so glad I am watching the US Open on this thread Grin

So, all of you who have seen play - who is going to win?

Raahh · 30/08/2018 22:52

Well, magi so far I've seen Stan play well, but not sure if he's good enough to win the whole thing again. Djok was shaky in his first round, but I'm not betting against him yet. I think Federer could stil come unstuck- Rafa has looked comforable too. Delpo has looked very good indeed.

My heart wants either Rafa or Delpo to win.

My head says it will probably be Novak.

But- Zverev played well today, (under the stern gaze of LendlGrin) and I haven't seen Cilic play yet.

I'm watching Pouille play Baghdatis. Marcos has been pretty cross in this match. He said earlier it was like playing in a zoo (they are on Grandstand).

Raahh · 30/08/2018 22:54

And they've just gone off for a 10 minute heat break.

I find Kyrgios very tiresome.

He’s playing Federer next - in his after match interview Federer was somehow saying polite things about him

Fizzywinegum · 30/08/2018 23:13

Apparently Layhani has said that he came out of his chair to talk to Kyrgios due to the noise levels in the stadium and suggested that he might need medical attention. He also warned him that if he continue to show a lack of interest in the match he would have to take further action. Still seems pretty unprofessional to me.

Will be interesting to see how the Federer/Kyrgios match goes - Roger did well to be polite about him.

Raahh · 30/08/2018 23:15

Oh, Federer seems to really like him. Hmm. It's odd. Murray does too. I really, really don't get why any of them give him the time of day- unless they are just waiting for him to self destruct. He's had so many chances.

FB is full of his fans still saying he will win multiple slams and be up there with the big three one day. O.k then...

I’ve very rarely seen him win anything Raahh - it annoys me how all the commentators say how watchable he is. I don’t like watching him - in fact I can’t believe how much energy I’ve used in getting cross about him.

Off to bed now - hoping that Rafa will be on at a reasonable time tomorrow but not holding out much hope.

JaneJeffer · 30/08/2018 23:40

I hate watching him too. He irritates me and the commentators fawning over him irritate me and when they show his family they irritate me as well!

Raahh · 31/08/2018 00:11

Grin at the general level of irritation Kyrgios has caused.

I can't stand him. And much as I would love an upset, I hope Federer beats him. Or they both retire from the match. That would be my preferred result. Grin

I don't think I'm going to last much longer. Djok has come out on court, and the Cilic match has finally started.

I've got Britain's Billionaire Immigrants on C4 and they just shown Boris Becker's daughter Anna being presented as a debutante!

Fizzywinegum · 31/08/2018 06:55

Sounds like an interesting programme Jane Grin

I’ve just seen today’s schedule and Rafa is second on Arthur Ashe court after Sloane Stephens/Azarenka match so might get to see him - DH will be thrilled!

Looks like Cilic had a really easy win. Monfils retired against Nishikori.

The Williams sisters are playing against each other later tonight and there’s also Delpo v Verdasco and Stan v Raonic - some good matches.

I seem to have lost track of Tsitsipas - is he still in the tournament?

magimedi · 31/08/2018 07:48

Medvedev beat Tsitipas.

This is the slam I get least excited about - don't know if it is the time difference or what. I do keep tracj but I don't have the same level of interest as the others or even some of the masters.

Fizzywinegum · 31/08/2018 07:52

Thanks Magi yes the time difference does make it difficult to keep track of this tournament. I usually concentrate on the later stages.

magimedi · 31/08/2018 07:58

The time difference doesn't affect me with the Aus Open. Confused

Mama1980 · 31/08/2018 08:34

Didn't see a shot of tennis yesterday , pesky life got in the way but hoping to see some today

Raahh · 31/08/2018 09:33

Oh good! I might get to see more than few games of Rafa (before nodding off).

The Aussie OPen doesn't bother me, because I only miss the matches on 'earlt' their time- and can start watching (in theory) any time from 6am onwards, which is when I'm up anyway during term time. The 'big matches' are usually on from about 8am when their 'night sessions' start.

I'm glad Cilic won easily. Might make him feel better , having not got this far at Wimbledon.

Just off to take dd2 swimming. Last minute holiday guilt Grin.

Morning all - I fell asleep (with my face basically on my iPad) watching Pouille v Baghdatis and didn't wake up until about 8am - best night's sleep I've had for ages!! Just catching up on all your comments now.

I saw P-HH was none too happy about Mo's actions, but it seems the US Open have let him off completely. A bit of a strange one. Roger was pretty firm in saying it wouldn't happen against him as it isn't allowed. Ha. I think Kyrgios could win that match, although I'd prefer Roger to go through.

Stan posted a photo of himself wearing a t-shirt saying "silence" Grin however I doubt Kyrgios will take it on board.

Some great matches on today, am glad I banked a bit of sleep because I'll be staying up tonight (that's the plan anyway!).

Magi I feel like it's impossible to predict a winner on the women's side, and tricky on the men's side. I haven't seen Zverev yet but I know that's the first time in ages he's won two straight sets matches in a row at a Slam... Interesting, extremely interesting!

Raahh · 31/08/2018 12:32

Private I'm annoyed that no action will be taken against Mo. The reaction to it (apart from in the Kyrgios camp) has been pretty unanimous- and Roger's right, it wouldn't happen against him.

And I said up thread, Murray would definitely have something to say about it if it happened on his time, bffs or not Grin.

I love Stan's t-short- good to see he's embracing the slagan t-shirt trend. Far too subtle for Kyrgios- I think that's his main problem (as he's shown with his tweets about Tsitsipas) he's not too bright is he?

The weather has- not surprisingly, since the dc go back to school next week- decided to perk up today. Typical, that. Grin.

Slogan t-shirt? Has Stan been reading this thread? 👀

PrivateParkin · 31/08/2018 13:30

Haha yes maybe! Stan, if you're reading: we're with you Grin

Raahh · 31/08/2018 13:43

I have just re-read my post, and apologise for my atrocious spelling .

I know not what a slagen t-short isGrin

I should not post, and walk the dog at the same time. Grin
