Grin

I can't believe it's nearly September, really. I'm sure the Australian open has just finished. Grin

I'm going to spend the morning labelling school uniform . I really am.

I probably won't

Marking my place.

Am now quite glad I didn't bother to fork out for Amazon - it all sounds like far too much bother.

Enjoy the marking, Raahh

PrivateParkin · 28/08/2018 09:29

Thanks for the new thread Raahh - love the title!!

Good luck with the labelling - remember, it's a marathon not a sprint, take breaks where you can etc Grin ugh I hate it!! Did most of mine yesterday but still PE kit to do...

Raahh · 28/08/2018 09:30

You have dodged a bullet, magi.Grin

I enjoyed the Stan match, and I know I fell asleep- but if I'd forced myself to stay awake, watching other matches, and then the stupid thing had gone off mid match whilst I was watching, I would have been really annoyed.

Private I hate it. I have a bunch of iron on labels from last year- somewhere Grin.

I keep finding other things to do Grin.

I spent an afternoon a couple of weeks ago sewing on new name tags, plus scout badges. That's 4 hours of my life I'll never get back Gin
Good win for Cameron Norrie. I don't envy you having Amazon Prime, even though you can watch the tennis and I can't cos it sounds horrendous! although your mutterings do keep me amused, so thank you Grin

JaneJeffer · 28/08/2018 11:16
this brought tears to my eyes. Watched the match highlights on YouTube as well. Ferrer hit some great shots despite the pain he was in. I've always loved watching him play.
Raahh · 28/08/2018 11:31

Jane he's always been one of my favourite players- he reminds me of a terrier Grin. He never gives up- which makes it even sadder really that he had to retire last night.
Hopefully he will be at the Davis Cup semi, even if he doesn't play.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 28/08/2018 11:43

Thanks for posting that Jane - v emotional! It was really nice that he was on a show could and had a chance to speak to the crowd afterwards - nice ovation too.

Mama1980 · 28/08/2018 12:03

Thanks for the thread raahh great title!

JaneJeffer · 28/08/2018 12:06

Raahh I always think of him as a terrier as well and even the commentator called him one Grin

Raahh · 28/08/2018 13:03

Jane really?Grin

I wish he'd won a slam- he's a player who probably really deserves to have won one. He has always been one of the hardest working on the tour.

He's definitely a candidate for a 'Rafa ruined my life' t-shirt. I wonder how his career would have panned out, if that pesky Nadal hadn't been around? Grin

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 28/08/2018 13:25

Aw yes it would have been great if he'd won a Slam. But he did win a Davis Cup (or two?) and maybe an Olympic medal?? I might be making that up.

Lol at the Rafa ruined my life t-shirt!! Grin

Raahh · 28/08/2018 13:31

I think Ferrer was part of 3 Davis cup winning squads- they have a good record, Spain.

OP posts:
PrivateParkin · 28/08/2018 13:34

Tee hee, I knew you would know Raahh!!! Great knowledge. They've had an amazing squad haven't they, over the last few years especially.

magimedi · 28/08/2018 13:37

Dreadful reviews of the Amazon prime coverage:

HERE

You need to scroll down to see them. 80+% are giving only one star.

Raahh · 28/08/2018 14:02

PrivateGrin Wierdly, they've not won , since 2011- but I think they have a good shot this year.

magi I'll only be giving it 1 star too- if that. Dh sent me a text message this morning, to ask if I had got over m 'tennis strop' Grin.

No- it is going to last the whole blinking fortnight!

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/08/2018 14:16

So many negative reviews! GrinI wonder if Amazon will address any of them though?

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 28/08/2018 14:54

Sky Sports will be laughing if they read those reviews.

PrivateParkin · 28/08/2018 14:55

Had a look at some of the reviews - agree with most of what's being said.

One of the main problems for me which I was going to mention yesterday, but then just didn't have the energy Grin was if you want to switch courts, the list of courts on Amazon doesn't actually tell you who's playing on which. So you have to check the us open website/app, see who's playing where, see if Amazon is showing that court and then click on that stream. It's exhausting!!

I feel for the presenting team as they are all great, it's just the tech side that's letting it down.

Raahh · 28/08/2018 15:42

Private that is a complaint that cropped up a few times. It's just not user friendly at all- and for an 'online' platform, you'd think they would be better at making it user friendly.

I read Annabel Croft saying that people just don't like change- but she's bound to say that , really Grin. She's not actually watching it via Amazon , though, is she?!

Some news paper (Times) reviews laughably suggested that it was no different to the Sky coverage . Yes, if the Sky coverage was filmed through a dirty sieve, from the far end of the Manchester airport runway at the end of my road, maybe Grin.

OP posts:
BagelGoesWalking · 28/08/2018 15:43

That's just stupid, Parkin, not being able to see who's playing!!

Just shows how lucky we are to have the BBC coverage, although I'm massively worried about that as I seem to remember they only have rights until 2020. There's no way they can win a bidding war with Amazon etc. One can only hope that Wimbledon themselves realise one of their greatest assets is the BBC coverage itself.

Fizzywinegum · 28/08/2018 15:43

I knew there were going to be teething troubles with amazon prime but I just didn’t enjoy the experience - I think I’ll just watch if there’s a match that I really want to watch and if it’s on at a reasonable time.

Changing between matches was very clunky and yes they just listed the court, not who was actually playing the match - grr. Hopefully it will get better.

Poor David Ferrer - like the idea of a “Rafa ruined my life” t shirt for Tsitsipas Grin

Good luck to everyone sewing on name tapes - for the first time in about 16 years I’ve not had to do a school uniform shop this year. DS2 is off to college and DS1 is back to uni soon for his second year and he’s still got his stuff from last year. The accommodation fees are eye watering though.

Hope things improve on the amazon prime front and hopefully we’ll get to enjoy some tennis.

Not even seen sleeveless Rafa yet - maybe I need to try and brave the highlights (if there are any!)

Raahh · 28/08/2018 15:52

Bagel every year, I panic that Wimbledon are going to sell out to Sky.

After all, the Beeb got rid of Bake Off, and that was a massive show for them.

I can't imagine what Amazon would do to Wimbledon, having watched what I did yesterday.

I've just found Richard Gasquet on one of the outside courts, whilst trying to get it to work today.

He's very blonde Grin

The heat is causing a lot of problems again.
