K-Drama recommendations

A K-drama thread was suggested on the Netflix subtitled gems thread so we can discuss in more depth without swamping the other thread. There are a lot of Korean films & boxsets on Netflix and I’m discovering the quality is variable, so I thought this would be a goid place to swap recommendations (and ‘avoids’). So far, I have hugely enjoyed:

• Something in the Rain
• Mr Sunshine (new episodes still dropping weekly)
• Live

Would also love to hear how closely these dramas represent real life in Korea from anyone who has lived there. Its fascinating learning about another culture.

Bea I agree the bromance had more chemistry than the romance! And although I liked her in Black in this she just seemed to act with her chin.

I read up on them, they are cheap because they have no insulation, hot in summer & cold in winter & not many amenities. Certainly in DDTD they were always brushing their teeth & washing outside 🤨

Can anyone tell me why sometimes people hide their drink with their other hand when downing it? Also have noted how when offering something they will hold their sleeve back, presumably a habit from the huge sleeves on robes officials wore in Joseon times

Thanks boatyardblues, bettys and bea! Thanks for your suggestions B-gang :) I have started off with Suspicious Partner and I'm liking the story so far (never expected the ending of first episode).

I might watch strong girl bong soon next as I like the girl from watching Oh My Ghost. I also have heard good reviews about Goblin from a friend.

I'm still fan-girling over Jo Jung-Suk. Apparently not only can he act, play guitar, and dance but he can also sing very well (has been doing musicals prior to acting! I have gone to youtube and checked his Thriller! musical too (also the bloopers of DDTD are really fun to watch)

Apart from Netflix, I have gathered Viki/dramabus are other options to watch K-dramas. Are there any other websites?

itsmehere1 fellow Jo Jung-Suk fangirl checking in! He's in Two Cops which I think is on Dramabus, not a top show but he is good to look at. I've seen bits of him singing & dancing & particularly love the wedding dance in DDTD. He's just got married dammit to Gummy.

Suspicious Partner is great fun & lovely Ji Chang Wook. Goblin is ok (I rather like Gong Yoo with long hair) but the age difference & FL's acting bothered me so it's not one of my favourites.

The websites you've mentioned are the best to watch kdrama on, and some stuff is on YouTube too.

Have been doing a bit of skippitydoodah as Bea would say with Lawless Lawyer however have found new dramas to look out for by IMDBing the Male Lead, Lee Joon Gi - Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Riyeo and Scholar Who Walks The Night

It was Heechuloppa who gave me the heads up on Reporter Kim (Siwon) who also sings on the OST and has an unexpectedly soft and crony voice.

I'm watching Moon Lovers; Scarlet Heart Riyeo which is a bit Hwarang like but has the 2nd male lead from SGBS in it. I'm enjoying it from aesthetic point of view.

That should be croony voice

Also just realised the second male lead in Moon Lovers is PSJ's best friend from Midnight Runners, but minus glasses and wearing long hair & robes and somehow better looking for it
