K-Drama recommendations

A K-drama thread was suggested on the Netflix subtitled gems thread so we can discuss in more depth without swamping the other thread. There are a lot of Korean films & boxsets on Netflix and I’m discovering the quality is variable, so I thought this would be a goid place to swap recommendations (and ‘avoids’). So far, I have hugely enjoyed:

• Something in the Rain
• Mr Sunshine (new episodes still dropping weekly)
• Live

Would also love to hear how closely these dramas represent real life in Korea from anyone who has lived there. Its fascinating learning about another culture.

I’m not sold on In Need of Romance 3, mainly because of the erstwhile male lead (meh) but female lead’s boss (and who I suspect she’ll end up with) is v handsome. The set up is good though, just miscast IMO.

Oh gawd! Think I need to book into kdrama addiction clinic!... Finding myself listening to soundtracks now!... Currently finding the Hwarang soundtrack good fun!!.... AND found myself watching ... bettys... You'll enjoy it! ❤️😂

Got to say the story starts to unfold and the angst and frustration of King Jinheung storyline is gripping... I know its PHS but I'm really 😭😭😭... about his dilemna!...

It did! Thanks for that Bea, it was nice to see the Hwarang boys all together. I like the OST too, especially the track by V. I am also listening to the Prison Playback soundtrack which is good.

I am currently trying out Lawless Lawyer on Viki after giving Bad Guys the thumbs down on Netflix.

Where did you find it? I couldn’t find it on iTunes and the CD on Amazon looked like an import which would have to come on a slow boat from China. I want to know the track off the (very cool) opening credits.

I've been listening to it all afternoon while working, love it!

I may have sniffed out another quality production. I’m 20 min into Argon and its really tightly structured and written. Will report back.

Ahhh! I'm loving Spotify for the Ost... The dramas I've watched seem to use music much more prominently... they also repeat songs for themes... It's another way of getting us hooked I suppose!...
Can't seem to find the ost for fight for my way... Not on Spotify as far as I can tell which is a shame as I liked a fair few of their songs!...

.. If we're listening to soundtracks... Are we one step away from Kpop and fan girling over BTS... I think that'll be taking it one step too far for me!!.... Though have managed to watch a fair few singing performances from park hyung sik... Who was in a boy band ... And actually has a fairly good voice! 😂😂😍😍😍😍

Argon is really classy. I’ll be sticking with it. Couldn’t get on with silly In Need of Romance 3, but this feels like its going to be worth the investment. It’s about an investigative news programme/journalists who pissed off their CEO and have been shunted to the graveyard slot from primetime. There is rivalry with the 9pm news team and a newly arrived outsider reporter, trying to fit in, plus the obligatory corruption and family angst. I was struggling to place the producer of the rival 9pm news show - it is the Emperor from Mr Sunshine in modern clothing. 😂

Plus, the news broadcast studio looks strangely familiar to fans of DDTD.

If Argon is by the same company as DDTD I bet they reused the sets. I will trot over if ‘Lawless lawyer^ doesn’t pan out. It’s about a lawyer with a gangster background seeking revenge on those who murdered his mother. Bit obvious but I am hypnotised the ML’s face which is very elfin.

Are roof top apartments cheap? A disproportionate number of kdrama leads live in them, often people without lots of financial backing. I therefore surmise they are like studio or basement flats and flats over pubs and takeaways here in the UK.

HWARANG... finished!! What a hoot!!.. Started off as a crazy caper with pretty boys But then turned into a real political drama with a lot of heart!! Surprised at how much I enjoyed it!...

And thought acting at times was a little dodgy... (not from PSJ / PHS of course! ❤️😍)

I loved loved the final scene where they go off riding into the sunset! (with that great soundtrack!)

Have to admit I Loved the bromance more than the romance...

She was pretty next....
