Let’s get June out of there!

I think that June told Emily to call the baby Nichole so that if Serena tried to find out if he baby had made it ‘to the other side’ she would be encouraged to know that she had instead of being given, in her eyes, a false name. This would only then endear Serena more to the cause of bringing down Gilead. Also I don’t understand the posters who are cross with June for staying put. She is a mother first and foremost and she could not in good conscience save one child and abandon another. The last few episodes in particular have shown more of the abuse of women in terms of DV, mutilation and murder permitted and carried out by the state. Not to mention the rape occurring regularly. A mother of a girl could not leave her daughter in that regime.

How would she stand more chance of getting Hannah out from Canada though? She’s known for a year or so that Luke is safe there and he hasn’t been able to do anything. She’d be just as useless as him if she escaped. If she stays underground and works with the resistance, she may stand a chance. Yes, of course it’s risky but you’d risk anything for your child.

Yy, Emily’s son was 2 when they were separated so 5 years on.

I don’t think it was Lawrence’s house on fire, I’m guessing a Martha started it for the distraction.

I’m scared for Nick! I don’t want him to be killed off, I lurve him.

We don’t know Aunt Lydia is dead, she might have survived to come back more evil than ever!

The question is - when will series 3 be aired ? I'm presuming there is one and it's already been shown in the U.S.???

I suspect June will be part of the resistance in the next series. I thought it symbolic that she lifted up her hood, as if she will be hidden from now on.

@WillowDogs it is very very obvious that if you aren't watching at the same time as the live broadcast you keep an eye on the post times and don't read anything posted a something that you haven't watched yet was broadcast. Then when you have caught up with the broadcast you can catch up with the thread. This is what many many of us have done for at least some previous episodes. Next season feel free to start a "one week time lag behind UK broadcast" thread and I promise we will all leave it well alone.

Willow, you've had things patiently explained to you several times now. I don't know why you're still not getting it. And if you've had a personal attack then by all means report.

I can’t remember if Emily knows about June and Nick? Does anyone apart from the Waterford’s and Rita know Nick is the father? Canada wouldn’t have to return the baby if the was doubt re Fred being the bio dad.

I hope Emily's storyline continues into the next series, she would be a lot more useful on the outside than Luke has been.

Commander Lawrence was responsible for creating Gilead's economy. In this episode when he is calling for his Martha and she didn't reply he made a comment that he would get better service if he could pay her. I think this was tongue in cheek and was his way of hinting that the economy that he set up has been twisted by Gilead (just like everything else). So likely that he doesn't agree with what Gilead has become.

I want Lydia to be quite badly injured but not dead and for a group of handmaids to care for her, and they can secretly, slowly torture her to death.

I don't think so Watermelon - only June, Nick, Rita & the Waterford's know, I believe.

What would the birth certificate show? Is June's name on there?

The Waterfords are going to have their power eroded or removed surely now that their household is in chaos. Fred's handmaid's disappeared, so has his daughter and his wife has tried to make changes to the rules of Gilead. What happens to Commanders once they have been so publicly disgraced?

Oh for God sake! All I was saying was that you are all technically posting spoilers by posting in the first place. Even if people are watching live and have paused for a second to go to the bathroom. However I watched live so it hasn't spoilt it for me. Wish I'd just left you all to it. But as it seems to be a free for all if there's anyone else who wants to jump on me you may as well. Apparently by commenting one small thing you are all entitled to bully at will.

Love how you're all so judgemental of the situation that is depicted on a tv show but can't practice it in real life.

Cagey I hadn’t thought of it from that angle, makes sense. I also don’t understand the hate June is getting for staying put. There’s no way I’d be able to escape a hellhole like gilead with one of my children, whilst leaving the other behind.

I loved that when Fred tried to lure June with the promise of staying in the house with the baby she replied ‘Go fuck yourself.’

He then went on to mention Hannah, which serves as a reminder that she will always come first.

No way will she go back to the waterfords, or return to a handmaid role at all. As soon as gilead get their hands on her she will be executed - but that doesn't mean that she has to run.

She will stay in the shadows and join the Martha resistance network, and help with the underground railroad till she can get to Hannah.

I reckon she will get Martha clothes or perhaps wear Eve's clothes, and become an anonymous guerrilla figure within Gilead.

I suspect that once she rescues Hannah she will get her to Luke and then return to Gilead to keep the fight going.

Aunt Lydia was extremely dangerous and I hope Emily (or someone else in the household) has finished her off.

Maybe people should read the end of the original thread and then instead of 'patiently' explaining things to me they may have a better understanding of the situation themselves.

I'm watching again on plus 1 & its still so bloody tense.

I don’t think it was Commander Lawrence’s house on fire - it was just across the street from the Waterford’s and surely they would have made more of it if Emily & June were so close to each other.

Regarding Lawrence - we know he set up the economy, which is largely socialist in its outlook. No unemployment, no actual money (though obvs not communist as they are not all equal) but society is “looked after” - no homelessness or poverty or hunger. You can see how Lawrence might have come up with it - he seems liberal in his views. But it’s gone too far and I guess he no longer supports the regime. But like in other conflict situations, he can do more from a high-up inside position.

June could not leave. She did that speech to Serena about not allowing a girl to grow up in Gilead. How could she then leave one of her girls to do just that?

She won’t go back to the Waterfords. She’s underground now, part of the resistance, and, as PP have pointed out, it’s big. They have to bring it down from the inside.

Peach, season 3 is still being written with filming due to start around October. Going by S1&2’s schedules, it will begin airing in the US late April and in the U.K. a few weeks later.
