As I'm watching on plus 1, Just noticing that she's feeding the baby, (during the Hannah flashback) so that'll keep the baby going for a few hours (until they can get her to Canada & to a shop that sells formula!).

Roussette · 12/08/2018 23:14

Willow... if you're a few seconds behind, you just don't read the thread until you've caught up! Yikes... this is tedious.

JuneOsbourne · 12/08/2018 23:14

Ignoring the merail from now on.

I did roll my eyes a bit at the carving on the wall. Rita told June she had just enough time to grab her shoes and GO. So she went and put on her jumper, faffed around in the cupboard and then did some grafitti. Hmm!

oppossum · 12/08/2018 23:14

I still don’t like commander laurence- he tried to play with her mind too music, right down to the music in the car. Why? A crazy power trip? That he’s still creating and above others? In control? He seems to display no real empathy, why scare her so much as they left

kashleesi · 12/08/2018 23:14

Also every time emily does something badass a little voice in my head goes ‘alright Rory Gilmore, chill out’ Grin

MazDazzle · 12/08/2018 23:15

Cagey Moira was a handmaid and she was black.

In the novel it mentions briefly that other races have been removed from Gilead, I think. I think those of African descent have been sent to Africa? Is that right?

WillowDogs · 12/08/2018 23:15

Roussette if you desperately want to avoid spoilers then the internet isn't the place to do it. I'm not surprised it happened, trolls exist. I don't agree with it but it's the only way to ensure it.

HannahnotAgnes · 12/08/2018 23:16

Not sure Maz as the Commander who refused a handmaid (as his wife was pregnant) was black.

Mamababynumber2 · 12/08/2018 23:16

How's the baby going to survive the journey with no milk?!

cavycavy · 12/08/2018 23:16

Is there a way of blocking people on mumsnet? I’m getting tired of having to scroll past our resident troll to find the posts that are relevant to the actual thread.

Roussette · 12/08/2018 23:17

Exactly Willow I agree. And that's what I've done. I avoided all spoilers until tonight. I knew that all the regulars on the HT thread was watching along with me.

HannahnotAgnes · 12/08/2018 23:17

I wish there were Cavy but I'm not aware how.

psicat · 12/08/2018 23:17

CageyBee - moira was originally a handmaid so it's not unheard of but yes they are generally white.

In the book moira is white though, black people were not allowed to be part of gilead from memory? It has been a long time since I read it!

CageyBee · 12/08/2018 23:18

Maz I don’t know but all the Handmaids that helped June in the “relay” were of varying races and that doesn’t reflect Gilead in terms of the elite ruling class.

WillowDogs · 12/08/2018 23:18

And all I was trying to say is that the thread was always going to be a target.

JuneOsbourne · 12/08/2018 23:18

I seem to recall that there was a racist element to the book but the show creaters chose not to include it as then you're essentially not using black actors and doing the very thing you're trying to censure.

MazDazzle · 12/08/2018 23:18

June is looking wistfully at CL as if she thinks she can rely on him for help.

I’d love to know how his Martha lost her eye. Wait, did his Martha trigger the whole thing? Did she instruct him? I know she yelled call an ambulance, but it seems plausible.

Bringonspring · 12/08/2018 23:18

willow if you want to discuss this episode then please do.

SisterMoonshine · 12/08/2018 23:18

I think it would suit Professor Lawrence for June to show up at his place- with AL gone he could make out he still has his new handmaid and get away with Emily being gone.

HannahnotAgnes · 12/08/2018 23:19

Loved the ending with the hood - she looked like Darth Mol Grin

TangelasVine · 12/08/2018 23:20

It's about 3/4 hours from Boston to Canada and I expect they are going fast so that baby won't die she'll just be very very cross

MazDazzle · 12/08/2018 23:20

Good point Hannah, is forgot about that.

I remember reading that the series was criticised for glossing over the racial discrimination in the novel.

HannahnotAgnes · 12/08/2018 23:20

Agreed Tangelas.

CageyBee · 12/08/2018 23:21

Thanks June and Psi. Looking forward to reading the novel.

MazDazzle · 12/08/2018 23:21

And June also fed her in the nursery, right before the escape?

She certainly won’t starve!
