So, classic Eastenders starts airing on the UKTV Drama channel from tomorrow! Two episodes from noon, and they’ll also be on UKTV catchup.

Use this thread to talk about Den, Angie, Arthur, poodle perms, poor fashion choices and Ethel’s Willy.

I liked today's episodes very xmassy[santa] I can imagine I must have watched it on Xmas day 1990 with my parents and ( long dead) Grandparents .

x2boys · 15/10/2019 16:00

Very interesting episodes ,today shows how far treatment has moved on in the last 30 years regarding HIV and AIDS .

Limer · 15/10/2019 16:43

I caught up with 4 days' worth today, Christmas done and now into January. Couldn't believe Sharon & Grant really did go fishing! I thought that was just a joke!

Was it the first instance of a phone call where we saw both ends of the conversation - Mark & Diane? Now that the Fowlers have a phone, there are loads more plot lines to be explored!

I noticed a couple of references to Michelle having wanted to move abroad when she was younger - is this a clue to her leaving soon?

How come Pete followed Jason home the other day, but today it was so far away that he needed to be driven there? Jason wouldn't be hanging around the market if he didn't live nearby.

And the whole Disa storyline is far too contrived, a really clunky way to achieve a Christmas new baby! Who's paying the rent on Mo's council house? Pat & Frank I guess, and they're letting Disa stay for free, you'd think Disa would be more grateful to have a roof over her head.

Sux2buthen · 15/10/2019 16:55

The bloody nerve of Simon cancelling cindys job offer! What a knob.
I was also floored when Diane and Disa were on the bed near the baby and Disa was smoking and then breathing it over herShock
How times have changed lol

x2boys · 15/10/2019 17:30

I don't think Michelle leaves for a few years yet? So about a year in Classic Eastenders time 😂yes all the smoking around the new born baby times have indeed changed!

Sux2buthen · 17/10/2019 20:08

I mean no offence to the actress but Dianes acting is not the best.

Limer · 24/10/2019 15:26

I thought they did the Disa storyline very well, would have been even better in 1990 over a few weeks. Do we find out what happens to Ken, or do we never hear from any of them again?

Had to laugh at Etta’s pregnancy test, I did one like that in 1992, you had to wait a while for it to “develop” and then compare the colour to a chart. My next pregnancy test in 1994 was a much more modern pee-on-a-stick type.

Was that D.I. Beech from The Bill and his wad of cash doing a dodgy deal with the Mitchells?

x2boys · 24/10/2019 17:45

It was @Limer but it confused me because he later appears in Eastenders as Johnny Allen but it's not the same character I don't think? What was that far chase all about anyway?

x2boys · 24/10/2019 17:46

Car chase *

Limer · 24/10/2019 21:12

I didn't really understand the car chase either, I think it was one lot of criminals pursued by another lot. Phil/Grant will probably end up mixed up in yet another underworld gang.

Limer · 25/10/2019 14:40

Sterilisation is a sin? OMG what a nasty piece of work Celestine is! Hope Etta doesn't put up with it, although it looks as if she is being the obedient wife for now.

Aha, the dodgy car’s boot’s full of forged fivers!

Oooooh, Dot keeps a stash of chocolate fingers and party rings under the counter at the launderette Grin

EggsFried · 25/10/2019 16:08

Celestine is vile- I was Angry at "I'm the man of the house and what I say goes".

Dot makes the show for me Smile

Limer · 28/10/2019 15:55

I love Dot too EggsFried

George from Drop The Dead Donkey was Mark's counsellor today!

And Rachel has arrived! I think she & Mark end up together and she runs a market stall selling a load of old tat Grin

Akire · 29/10/2019 14:30

Just caught up after a break, good to see thread still going. Sad wasn’t that long ago that women had to get husbands permission to get this done. Never mind going through major surgery at NHS expensive when him getting snip would be so much easier. Silly as them having another baby at least she didn’t want will only put greater strain on money and the space. She will go back work at all money pay for nursery instead.

x2boys · 31/10/2019 08:55

What's going on with Michelle and this Time share business is it all.a big con?.I.remember Time shares being a thing in the 80,s but more people pestering you in the street when you were on holiday in Spain etc.

Cornettoninja · 31/10/2019 21:39

Well they’ve missed a couple of pretty crucial episodes then - why is Grant bashing in Eddies skull?

Does anyone know if the missing episodes are actually lost lost or are they just trying to control the episodes for some reason.

x2boys · 01/11/2019 06:03

Yes I couldn't understand the whole beating up.of Eddie as a they must have missed the episode prior to it not sure what's going on with the " missed " episodes .

Limer · 01/11/2019 15:14

Very confused about the missing episode(s)! From today’s conversation between Sharon & Michelle, it seems that Eddie made a pass at Sharon, and Grant beat him up as a result? Why would Eddie do that, when he’s supposed to be in a relationship with Kathy, and he’s got Evelyn on the back burner?

Michelle doing timeshare sales is rather strange too, it was a big con at the time (as was pension sales). I guess she's either going to fail to earn any commission, or make some sales and then get it in the neck when the people arrive at their luxury five-star apartment only to find it's still a building site.

Akire · 01/11/2019 21:21

I haven’t seen today’s but also was confused when I was up to date that Sharon found Eddie on floor and big story going on. It would explain Sharons constant attraction with being involved in crime.

I do remember time shares going down but to young to really follow. Some of them must have been ok or it would have all falling apart the first summer.

x2boys · 01/11/2019 21:41

I think time shares were a big thing in the 80,s you were guaranteed two weeks in the sun every year for x amount of money I don't know how it worked presumably you paid more money if your two weeks were in early August compared to late march? But I never really saw the point surely the point of going abroad every year was to experience two weeks somewhere different not spending the same two weeks every year in Benidorm etc ?

Limer · 05/11/2019 15:17

You could also trade your timeshare with someone else's if you wanted to go somewhere else. But you'd still got to pay for all your flights etc. and because you "owned" two weeks out of fifty-two for that property, people got stung with unexpected management charges, admin fees, etc. Michelle's employer are also obviously scamming their employees!

The original Mrs Mitchell! When does Barbara Windsor arrive? Not long now I think?

Glad Etta went through with her abortion, but OMG isn't Celestine a piece of shit!!!

x2boys · 05/11/2019 16:29

Yes very, very strange to.see another actress to.play the part of such an iconic character ,he's not being supportive at all.is he Celestine Sad

southeastdweller · 05/11/2019 19:23

It's another three and a half years in EastEnders time until Barbara Windsor makes her debut (November 1994) so I guess we'll see her sometime next year?

Akire · 05/11/2019 20:32

Was she really an icon? I don’t remember the family much from first time round well only the kids. Had feeling they didn’t stay very long? Am a few behind at the moment.

southeastdweller · 05/11/2019 20:33

Who are you talking about Akire? Etta?
