So, classic Eastenders starts airing on the UKTV Drama channel from tomorrow! Two episodes from noon, and they’ll also be on UKTV catchup.

Use this thread to talk about Den, Angie, Arthur, poodle perms, poor fashion choices and Ethel’s Willy.

Also, it's fun to watch these again. I can't really remember exactly how Sharon got from here to Mrs Phil Mitchell.

dingdongdigeridoo · 11/12/2018 14:13

Would have been better imo if you had just a suspicion of Den having other women, plural.

Yeah I agree. The whole thing with Jan is just weird and off-putting. It’s like they’re in some weird polyamorous situation.

Arfurr you idiot! I didn’t know he faked a robbery as well as the whole Christmas club money thing. Does he have a breakdown this year or is it in a few years when Mark comes back with HIV?

Sorry, no spoilers!!! WinkGrin

gower4 · 11/12/2018 22:23

The Venice episodes look so old-fashioned!

piggie88 · 12/12/2018 18:55

I’m confused, do they keep missing episodes out?
Suddenly Kelvin has his own flat and is seeing the health visitor.
I thought Colin was having a thing with Debs but then had Barry? stay the night.
And now Michelle and Lofty have got married but the episode before they were hardly talking.

tobee · 13/12/2018 16:23

I was 18 when this was on originally. I never really liked Wicksy/Nick Berry then. He was the one you were supposed to like, but with his flicked hair, thin tie, socks and slip ons he wasn't my type- too naff Grin. At the age I am now, he's like a sweet and vulnerable boy I can imagine my son knowing and I feel sorry for him with his mum and dad situation. In these early episodes that is, iirc he becomes much harder. I forget what happened. Apart from the Cindy/Ian shenanigans.

tobee · 13/12/2018 16:29

I think, piggie, that it seems that way because a) they were on only twice a week and so often youd come back on the Tuesday, and you sort of have to fill in the gaps with your imagination as to what happened at the weekend and b) they are cutting bits in the individual episodes to fit in with UKTV drama schedules with adverts etc.

gower the Venice episodes look old fashioned because of the steps that Den and Angie use to get off the plane maybe? Plus it's autumn/winter time so they aren't wearing holiday gear?

gower4 · 13/12/2018 20:06

There's definitely an episode missing on my catch up. Is anyone else missing the one where Angie tells all to the barman on the Orient Express??

Limer · 13/12/2018 20:18

That episode was the second one from yesterday gower4 I record it every day and watched it last night.

tobee · 13/12/2018 20:53

That's a bit of a key episode to be missing! I usually watch on UKTV catchup through now tv, and they put them up with the oldest one first and I've often confused myself!

gower4 · 13/12/2018 21:39

I had to watch it online. I hated Eastenders after Den and Angie split, it was the end of the classic era in my humble opinion.

tobee · 15/12/2018 14:49

For some reason I've never liked the term toe rag. But Ethel is completely right calling Charlie a toe rag; he's the very definition!

dingdongdigeridoo · 16/12/2018 00:15

I didn’t know Charlie was so horrid. Poor Dot.

This show has lots of terrible husbands and put upon women.

Just watched the Xmas episode Den n angie divorce and poor Arthur's breakdown! Absolutely brilliant

MrsTommyBanks · 19/12/2018 14:02

Bill Treacher is a truly gifted actor.
He knocks the current cast out of the water.

Limer · 20/12/2018 21:11

Hear, hear to Bill Treacher being fantastic.

Watching it all again is a hugely wonderful trip down memory lane. I was 21 in 1986 and remember lots of it really clearly.

piggie88 · 20/12/2018 21:59

When does it come out that Den is Vicki’s dad? Pauline’s guessed now so does everyone find out soon?

italiancortado · 20/12/2018 22:19

Not for another 2/3 years I don't think. I'm sure Michelle tells Sharon after den is shot

Limer · 21/12/2018 19:52

Pete & Kathy have the Marks & Spencer "Harvest" crockery - I had that too.

The usage of cups & saucers is noticeable everywhere except outside on the market stalls, and in the launderette. In the cafe, in houses, it's always a cup & saucer.

How soon before Michelle gets pregnant again?

italiancortado · 21/12/2018 20:09

How soon before Michelle gets pregnant again?

10 years

italiancortado · 21/12/2018 20:11

Oh no, she gets pregnant soon - I totally forgot that even happened!!! I was thinking about Mark!

piggie88 · 21/12/2018 23:26

Oo I’m looking forward to all what’s to come. I wasn’t born till 88 and I love Eastenders now so I’m really enjoying watching these episodes.
Waiting to see how Kathy and Sharon are with each other now because they seemed to get on well then but I can’t really remember them talking in current Eastenders.

x2boys · 22/12/2018 00:23

Yes she gets pregnant with loftys child , the marriage only lasts about a year as i recall so a few months? Considering how fast we are going through episodes.

x2boys · 22/12/2018 00:47

Lofty and Mary are apparently returning to Eastenders for one episode Dr Legge ,s funeral next year Shock

italiancortado · 22/12/2018 00:47

I hope she's had some acting lessons then.....
