So, classic Eastenders starts airing on the UKTV Drama channel from tomorrow! Two episodes from noon, and they’ll also be on UKTV catchup.

Use this thread to talk about Den, Angie, Arthur, poodle perms, poor fashion choices and Ethel’s Willy.

Pat indeed !Who did turn out to be Wicksy,s Dad? Did they know about Bianca at that point do you think? So many questionsConfused

birdsofafeather · 09/11/2018 16:12

So Pete isn't Simon's dad? Just David wicks

AamdC · 09/11/2018 16:13

And i was wondering Pats , quite a large lady (not having a go im quite a large lady too) and she unexpectrdly stays over at the Vic and yet Angie has a spare pink dressing. gownnin Pats sizeHmm

tobee · 09/11/2018 17:15

Pat Cabs!

I was thinking Angie's blue dressing gown! Mick wears Linda's pink one and Alfie used to wear one too! I'm sure Peggy did occasionally. A running theme at the Vic?

Btw, who else shouted out "who are you kidding, 'Chelle?" when she told Den that Vicky wasn't named after The Vic? Grin

tobee · 09/11/2018 17:16

I haven't caught up yet but I remember Pete calling Pat a dollop all the time and thinking it was horrible of him.

I thought that was weird too. It used to be so hard to get bigger clothes. My grandma has always been large and I remember she basically only shopped in Evans. I think there were some special catalogues too which were quite grim!

Jeez I thought my ears were going to bleed listening to the band practice! Grin

AamdC · 10/11/2018 08:28

You would have thpught Pete would have bern a bit interested in David Wicks well being no one seems to mention himHmm, When Michelle brought Vicky home from the hospital ,Lou said im a great grandmother , they might not have known about Bianca , but David had another couple of kids one of which was Joe so she would have already been a great grandmotherConfused

tobee · 10/11/2018 10:18

That's true! They didn't really talk about David much. Also, Kenny might have had kids in New Zealand?

According to EE wiki, Lou also had sons Harry and Ronnie. Plus her daughter who was adopted, Maggie, who Pauline went to look for in Ireland.

dingdongdigeridoo · 13/11/2018 22:54

Watching these old eps reminded me that Kathy had a long lost daughter. She never mentions her either. Even when Ian has lost kids she hasn’t spoken about it.

I feel so sorry for Sue, she's quite tragic really. And she's married to Ali who is a bit of a nob. "I just want a baby even if it's a girl" Shock Mehmet is horrible too, what a sleazebag.

Bored of the band storyline and that awful Harry, his delivery of his lines is terrible!

tobee · 15/11/2018 13:04

Letitia Dean's voice is far too drama school trained where Sharon's voice would have been more rough round the edges.

busbottom · 15/11/2018 13:56

She goes to private school though, so the accent fits

tobee · 15/11/2018 14:45

Yes the accent fits but not the singing style, surely? Oh well.

BrennieGirl · 15/11/2018 15:41

I really liked the scenes with Arthur and the three babies.

Does anyone else sometimes have difficulty understanding what they are saying? Den and Pete especially. I don't know if it's the accent or that they both speak very quickly.

dingdongdigeridoo · 19/11/2018 18:55

The sound is a bit crap in some episodes. The background music can be very loud and distracting at times too. Although I do like the 80s soundtrack.

People seem to be very liberal about sex in early EE. Open marriages, shagging to make your spouse jealous, Mary thinking of being a prostitute to ‘help’ people. Den is a gross bugger though.

dingdongdigeridoo · 21/11/2018 23:57

Haha, Arfurrr had a go at Den for being a conservative voter because no working class person could possibly be a Tory. How times have changed.

It’s really quite sad watching his breakdown. Even if he is a knob.

As sweet as Lofyy is supposed to be its depressong watching him and Michelle, is thst all she thought life had to offer after becoming a teenage mum?

AamdC · 22/11/2018 19:22

Oh Andy Sad

BrennieGirl · 22/11/2018 19:59

Oh that was sad. Poor Debs.

dingdongdigeridoo · 23/11/2018 14:13

The lady whose child ran across the road later came back as Tiff’s mum. The one who shagged Grant.

I feel sad for Michelle soon. At least she went on to do a degree and other things. Things are unrelentingly grim with Mary and I don’t think they got better for her.

I’m still loving it, though not watched today’s yet. What happened with Marks GF and kids? Last heard in Margate or wherever playing happy families then next he’s back sleeping rough.

Why are all business owners so broke? Seems work 18h days in cafe and be totally broke same with shop. Be better off getting jobs and being paid more.

AamdC · 23/11/2018 21:55

So if shell got 1,s and 2,s she must have sat CSE,s not O,levels woyld she have been able to do Alevels with those grades? I left school in 1990 so my year was the 3rd year to do GCSE,s so im not all that familiar with CSE,s versus O levels.

Akire · 23/11/2018 22:09

I checked and CSE grade1 was same as o level grade C. Ian seems to have done CSE
To and Sharon so not sure how no one done O levels. Suppose there were many more jobs or training places as very few people went to do a levels and Uni. Maybe They would do an access course first?

AamdC · 23/11/2018 22:24

Yes it also said most kidsat Grammar or independent schools sat Olevels and kids at secondary modern mainly sat CSE,s i wemt to a comprehensive school , in my town we hadent had Grammar schools since the 70,s so im a bit confused about who sat what exams and how they deceided? I guess the upper sets sat Olevels, i was an average student though would i have been put in for CSE,s ?Confused
