Fizzy Grin

I'm always around, catching up on the latest smaller tournments.

I do agree, Rafa's transplant, as much as he is my favourite, was poor. I hope he got a refund. Grin

Going into the hard court 'season' (even though it isn't), Djok could be a threat. I'm not sure Rafa will come too close to replicating last year- this year has been far too tough so far. But who knows?

Tim Henman won a tournament in Tashkent
Was that the one where the court surface was made of dung?! Grin I remember him being interviewed and saying dung was his best surface as he'd never lost on it Grin

I agree with Monte Carlo looking a great tournament. It's on my list too - also Rome and Indian Wells (on the off-chance of a lottery win).

Raahh · 15/07/2018 17:53

Fizzy yes, I think Tim had about 10/11 singles titles, but nothing very 'major'.

Private I dream of a lottery win- If I thought Rafa would win RG agan, I'd would then block book tickets.

(Other slams don't have a much easier ticket system buying than Wimbledon)

Yes I wonder if Djok will really have his mojo back - I mean, he did lose to Chickenato not that long ago... Or if this is sort of a blip, albeit a good one from his point of view. Hmm...

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 18:05

Sorry, for the US Open, I meant, in that last post. He's obviously got a big chance there, but it's a pretty open field - I hope Rafa won't be too knackered to challenge though.

JaneJeffer · 15/07/2018 18:29

Wow absolutely started pouring rain at WC presentation in Russia.

Raahh · 15/07/2018 18:52

Shame for Murray and Azaenka, but I'm glad she got that far.

Those two weeks flew. I won't know what to do with myself tomorrow. Well I will but I won't want to do any of it.

ladymelbourne1926 · 15/07/2018 19:00

Agree jane it went far too fast and predictably I have a fairly quiet week now having missed most of the second week of Wimbledon.

Raahh · 15/07/2018 19:04

Aww, I'm just watching the interview with Djok, and he really is so happy to see his little boy seeing him win. That's nice.

Jane it really did fly by Sad

Kazza it's so annoying about tennis not being on the main channels again now until - what, the O2 in November? We have got Sky, mainly "for rugby" but they show loads of tennis on there too, so I watch quite a bit of the men's tour. We don't have BT Sport though, which shows the women's. I will have to get Amazon prime for the US Open but it's not exactly ideal.

Raahh · 15/07/2018 19:07

I have Amazon Prime, but it's not as each to watch on that as Eurosport ot Sky. It's really annoying.
Back to checking score on line I go!

Angie is wearing an absolutely beautiful red/orange dress to the Champs' Ball. She looks amazing.

So when is she going to start flossing?! Remember that discussion anyone?! Although Wimbledon seems to have sped by, it also seems years since Marin was flossing on BBC Breakfast Grin

Only 50 weeks until next time! Grin Sad

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 21:52

Just watched a nice montage of some of the best moments... it was good, but it's made me feel quite emotional!

magimedi · 15/07/2018 21:55

Do you have a link to Angelique's dress?

Can you see that magi? Will try and upload it if not.

magimedi · 15/07/2018 22:04

Can see it - thank you.

She looks stunning.

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 22:16

Brill - yes she really does.

Off to bed soon - am absolutely shattered. All this tennis viewing has finally caught up with me!

Raahh so sorry to hear about your difficult week coming up. Hope it goes as well as possible. Don't forget to look after yourself too Flowers

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 22:35

PS I thought this was a good balanced round-up and thought I'd share, in case anyone is interested...

JaneJeffer · 15/07/2018 23:08

Thanks for that Private does tennis have a fifth-set tiebreaker problem or a John Isner problem? good question!

JaneJeffer · 15/07/2018 23:32

These two were having a good laugh.

Finally something I agree with Rahhh on ... It's a big 3 or maybe a big 5 but not a big 4.

Apart from that I'd just like to defend Roger .... again. He is definitely not smug. He is no more smug than Rafa is smug.
And Anderson may be a nice guy and his game may have improved over the last season or so but he is still far too dependent on his serve to make it any fun watching him.
Incidentally my take on the Isner/Anderson match - what I saw of it, was that Anderson has a better return of serve than Isner and that, along with better stamina on the final stretch made the difference. Isner had better volleys but of course they're less important than returns.

I was delighted that Djokovic beat Rafa and pretty pleased that he won overall. It's a travesty really how well a baseliner can do on grass. Just shows how they had to alter it in order to reduce the serve dominance. All the nonsense about Wimbledon being fixed to suit Roger completely overlooks how the grass and the balls have changed to his disadvantage.

Bring back Stefan, Timmy and Mac. That's the way grass court tennis should be played.

Anyway, on to the US Open. Probably my favourite tournament as it doesn't seem to have been messed around with in the way Wimbledon has. And it provides the middle ground between clay and grass so it's a better test really of tennis ( as opposed to serving or strength). Thats on my wish list to see live Smile

ferrier · 16/07/2018 00:55

Sky hardly shows any tennis now.
Ladies is on BTSport mostly with a bit of men's on Eurosport but most of the good stuff is supposed to be going on to Amazon Prime.
