Did anyone watch this? The first episode was completely up its own arse but I think I’ll stick with it!

Anybody have any ideas what the Mum is doing keep touching her eyelashes? Does she have that condition where you pull your hair out?

This series has absolutely gripped me, I became a bit obsessed with it! Incredibly well done, I could barely breathe at times during the last episode. At times it felt far too close to home as Adora said things and pulled pained facial expressions my mother must have taught her...

But the sound was terrible at some points. Even with my TV turned up full n last and meddling with all the sound settings, I couldn't tell what people were mumbling sometimes! Great soundtrack though. It reminded me a lot of True Detective S1.

I read this recap of episode 8
www.vulture.com/2018/08/sharp-objects-finale-recap-season-1-episode-8-milk.html

I'd turned the tv off as soon as the credits started, so then went back and watched right through.....

Clawdy · 27/08/2018 22:25

Clever ending but you had to watch the credits until literally the last second! Luckily I had spotted a warning online not to switch off!

Notasyoungasiwas · 28/08/2018 08:04

I did the same as you clangermum - put it back on til the end of the credits 😱

JellyBears · 28/08/2018 09:14

Darn what an ending!!! Awesome twist! Sadly I didn’t realise about the credits so I missed the bit after the credits.

TomHardysBackpack · 28/08/2018 10:49

Great series but I have a few questions....

How did Camille get the words scratched onto her back?
Why did Ashley have a bite mark on her ear?
Why was the police chief always up at the house? Did he suspect Adora?
Do you think Adora knew about Amma?

clangermum · 28/08/2018 10:59

Unsure TomHardysBackPack about Adora knowing about Amma, so I keep replaying scenes in my head. Like the final meal - originally I thought Adora was celebrating because she'd got away with it herself. Then after the credits, I wondered if she's celebrating (or pretending to) because Amma has got away with it, or if she doesn't know, or half knows but won't admit to herself (a bit like the husband maybe). There seems to be lots of knowing but burying going on.

I wonder if the book is any clearer? Or if the haziness is the point?

clangermum · 28/08/2018 11:02

No idea about Ashley's bite mark. I know biting was a thing, but not where she fits in as she didn't seem to be a key player.

clangermum · 28/08/2018 14:16

And I've re-watched the ending yet again - so easy to miss things! I thought Amma had been sloppy leaving the incriminating tooth in the doll house - I didn't realise the whole floor was made of teeth.....

Guess this is also a reference back to the mother's floor

AveABanana · 28/08/2018 14:51

I told you Amma was creepy!

So Adora killed Marion and had been poisoning Amma and Camille, but it was Amma that killed the girls? How?

Toyboysrus · 28/08/2018 16:25

I hate it when everything isn't neatly explained!

In the end flashback Amma and friends seemed to be punching/drowning somebody, was this Natalie or Anne? Did the girls by themselves move the corpse into the alley way? Or who helped them? Why was Amma a killer? Who bit Ashley? Who carved on Camilles back? How much did Alan know about the poisoning and the murders? Did Adora know that Amma was the killer?

Roseandvioletcreams · 28/08/2018 17:41

Wow what a series. I watched it causally not paying attention but since then watched interviews on it read blogs, reviews about the music themes, the dress themes.

I second Tom hardy questions. How the fuck did she carve her own back.
The teeth. Wow. So chilling. So macabre. How come adora never noticed? She poured over the house with amma.

How come adora was so quick to ignore anmas nightly madness, drinking etc.

I was disappointed the cop didn't find camomile and it was her boss who pushed to save her.

So many fascinating themes thrown up. Classic narc triangle.

Why wasn't step dad thrown in jail. He enabled the posinng.

Apart from the teeth shock, one thing that really shocked me was the rat poison.

I thought the mum was obviously poisoning but with normal drugs like paracetamol.

Something about the rat poison... Really affected me. Anyone putting their hand on rat poison, can read.. It's hard to get past, mental illness or no...

clangermum · 28/08/2018 21:01

The flashbacks at the end were so quick. The girl seen from under the bed - I guess that was John's sister (as they said they found blood in the house). The red nails clinging to the fence were the new friend Amma made when she moved in with Camille. The rest was a bit of a haze, but yes I took from it that Amma and her two friends killed the two Wind Gap girls. And presumably Amma was the ringleader and it was her jealousy because Adora had started taking an interest in them. Amma killed the new neighbour friend at the end because of the conversation over dinner - she accused her of trying to impress Camille.

ElenaGreco123 · 28/08/2018 21:56

Wow. Just wow. Thank you for telling us about the end credits.

clangermum · 28/08/2018 22:15

Yes, I would have come away with a completely different reading otherwise - thinking maybe Amma found a tooth in the house and kept it as some kind of grim trophy

ElenaGreco123 · 28/08/2018 22:26

DH read the novel, so he knew. And I was sure it was Amma when the teeth appeared and the new friend disappeared.

OliviaStabler · 31/08/2018 19:26

I'm so glad I found this thread as I never would never have gone back and watched after the credits started to roll otherwise.

I had to watch a few times to be sure what I was seeing.

The scene at the very end was one of the most powerful to me, when Camille was talking to the girls in the store.

TechnicalSergeantGarp · 01/09/2018 18:08

I missed the end credits and only watched them because someone told me to go back.

The police chief was Camile's dad. Her aunty type made a comment about the Preaker women going for police types and her step dad had a fight with the police man in the barbers.

HannahnotAgnes · 12/09/2018 00:23

Such a strange series - not sure whether I actually enjoyed it or not & the end part in the credits were truly creepy!
