at magi's request here is the first grass thread ( we will probably need more than one!).

Can't believe it time for Queen's again. Hope the weather holds out- bit gloomy in the north west.Grin

( can't link to other thread as on my phone).

See you all later- the only thing I'm not looking forward to is the likelihood it will be Mr Castle in the commentary box.Grin

It's a shame Tomas Berdych and Dolgopolov had to withdraw.

Raahh · 03/07/2018 11:55

Nooooo! Not Dogs! I like him. Sad Berdy, I can take or leave.

Delpo is shushing people in the crowd Grin

Raahh · 03/07/2018 12:02

Very windy out there on court 3. And the grass is also quite burnt in places- not great, given it's only day 2! Grin

"rule change which means players who withdraw in the first round with a pre-existing injury risk losing all of their prize money, which for first-round losers this year is 39,000 pounds
However, a player who withdraws after the draw is made but before their match, can collect 50 percent of their first-round losers’ fee."
Saw this on Reuters.

I didn't realise they had done this. It's good to stop players who aren't fit to play from taking a place someone else can have but it's mad to get 50% if you withdraw after the draw!

JaneJeffer · 03/07/2018 12:04

The Dog has a wrist injury. He will have got his 50% though.

Tomas withdrew before the draw. He's having back problems.

JaneJeffer · 03/07/2018 12:05

I'm watching Ernests. Jay Clarke is serving for the first set.

Raahh · 03/07/2018 12:05

Jane I saw that- don't blame him. It appears to be near a bit of a walkway.

Jane I don't think they should get any money if they knowingly wait until after the draw to withdraw from the competition. But I'm mean. 24/48 hours is really going to make no difference at all to a pre-existing condition, that you know you can't play 5 sets with.

I know a lot of people (namely MacGrin) were unhappy at how many players pitched up last year, played a couple of games, and then claimed injury and pulled out- so I guess that had to do something. It is unfair when you think of all the players who went through pre-qualifying/qualifying etc and still missed the cut.

Ah Delpo does look nice in all white - I feel as if I’ve not watched him for ages - didn’t see any of his matches at the French open.

I’ve not even tried flossing - I know I’d be rubbish.

Raahh · 03/07/2018 12:38

FIzzy he did far better at RG than I think anyone expected, (but looked visibly exhausted by the end)- I'm really hoping he goes far this Wimbledon.

Konta seems to be doing ok too.

Raahh · 03/07/2018 12:39

Bit of trouble here for Delpo.

Fizzywinegum · 03/07/2018 12:48

Yes Raahh I hope he does well at Wimbledon - I’ve always liked him.

Getting excited for Rafa later (hope I don’t have to get my hoody Grin)

JaneJeffer · 03/07/2018 12:57

Fizzy I think you should buy a big sun hat you can hide behind if needs be. It's too hot for a hoodie.

Raahh · 03/07/2018 13:01

I'm just hoping I get to see him! I have a feeling by the time he gets on, it will coincide with an hour and a half of to-ing and fro-ing to school .

Since they listed all his early losses yesterday, do you think they will begin his match by referencing Rosol/Darcis etc again today?

Probably.

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/07/2018 13:02

I definitely don't want to be hiding in the garden- too bloody hot.

I will hide on the stairs, if things get iffy. (and take the remote with me, in case anyone gets and ideas about turning over/putting on footballGrin).

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/07/2018 13:04

I might just hide behind the dog.

But he's only a miniature schnauzer.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 03/07/2018 13:09

Jane yes I was thinking it was too warm for a hoody - maybe a sombrero Grin. Hopefully he will play well and I won’t need to hide.

Raahh of course they will list all the players that Rafa has lost to at Wimbledon! Sue Barker is the worst - she always gets the boot in, closely followed by Mac. I don’t know what they’ve got against Rafa.

Hope that you get to see some of the match - I’m hoping not to be going anywhere. Both DSs are going out to watch the footy - just need to get rid of DH now Grin

JaneJeffer · 03/07/2018 13:09

Why the hell do they keep changing the red button matches? Every time I go off to do something when I come back there's a different match on and I have to go through such a rigmarole (thanks Sky Ireland) to find the one I was watching again Angry

Fizzywinegum · 03/07/2018 13:10

Only for the football - not permanently!

JaneJeffer · 03/07/2018 13:11

Fizzy Grin

Raahh · 03/07/2018 13:12

Raahhdog is currently totally unimpressed.

He trying to camouflage with the sofa.

There'll be no escaping the England match for me unfortunately.

Raahh · 03/07/2018 13:13

Fizzy Grin

I am still annoyed at dh for being around.

It's just damned inconsiderate. Grin

Aww so cute Raahh. Mine is lying beside the sofa enjoying the shade.
