Loved season 1 and 2
Lost it in season 3 for me
Will watch though as I love the female leads
not so keen on Noah though!

Bet the veteran is a wrong’un.
Ben seemed like a completely different person in the AA meeting than with Alison.

I agree! He seemed so nice initially, but then seeing him in that AA meeting he was really different, and the way he seems so comfortable with lying (like a lot of addicts), and was unapologetic about it with Cole and manipulated him into saying nothing to Alison about him still being with his wife. And we know that Alison disappears soon ...

ihatethecold · 21/07/2018 09:49

So glad this is back on.
I think Helens acting is incredible. I know her character is not likeable but she is a very good actress in this.
I actually like that they do the story from different points of view. It’s like life and how we all see things from a differing angle.

I really feel for Luisa. She’s never going to truly win Cole.

I really want to know why Noah’s student is in the car with Cole and Noah traveling to Montuak.

Loopytiles · 21/07/2018 11:15

Maura Tierney was great in ER years ago and agree that’s she’s great in this too.

All the lead four are v convincing. The characters are often a massive PITA but well acted!

Luisa’s position in the US, and her marriage, is so vulnerable Sad She is being very U about trying to make Alison out to be a bad mother though.

TomHardysBackpack · 21/07/2018 12:30

I'd hate to be in Louisa's position but the way she acted last season made me not like her. I can't really put my finger on why.

I agree Maura Tierney is a fantastic actress but I just hate the character of Helen and agree that what she did with telling Vik's mum was despicable. I've come across people like her in real life and I tend to steer clear.

I've only just realised that it's Noah's student in the car! Just thought it was some random? That's interesting.....

SuperSuperSuper · 21/07/2018 22:16

I too am curious about the student! Noah kissed his mother during the last episode - maybe they end up in a serious relationship - the time hop is 6 months so he'd have had time to bond with the kid.

The veteran is so well acted! Great addition to the cast.

It was good to see Cole's mum again.

I feel so sorry for Luisa. She must feel so vulnerable.

EachandEveryone · 22/07/2018 23:59

I dunno if I do or not really. At some point she would’ve had to apply for residency? I don’t know if they are trying to be political with the writing but isn’t it the same for all of us at some point you become illegal if you don’t meet the countries criteria? She’s known for years by the sounds of it. Unless she is a refugee or something.

I'm enjoying the comments.I kept thinking about The Affair this week so must be good. The acting is great.Ben is a terrific actor.Particularly in the Drug addict support group.Purely for an entertainment point of view loved the boat scene. Its really drawn me in again.I love it.Not disappointed at all.

5000FingersofDrT · 23/07/2018 14:21

How does the whole getting married thing work in terms of Luisa's citizenship? Wouldn't that involve some level of official scrutiny? Eg she must have had to give her birthplace, at the very least? Would anyone check? She clearly couldn't even risk applying for a drivers' licence so she's living under the radar to quite an extent. Disclaimer: I have no idea about the marriage regulations in the US.

Ingurr · 23/07/2018 14:39

Mari50, Re Joanie, it's possible for two blue eyed parents to have a brown eyed child. Our son has brown eyes and both husband and me have blue eyes.

MrsAidanTurner · 23/07/2018 22:35

I don't know why Helen gets such a hard time. She had awful things happen to her and her slime ball husband fucking off.

Not happy with the cancer theme though.

Adore Cole. I have a massive crush on him now and find myself only wanting to watch parts with him in it.
I feel alison has totally lost her way I know she is crushed but she seems so boring. I can't see any attraction in her at all. Lusia is stunning. In my heart I long for Alison and Cole to find each other again. Esp for their daughter. The actor who plays Cole is so superb. Has he been in any films?! Why isn't he in more stuff!!

MrsAidanTurner · 23/07/2018 22:47

When he slammed his fist on the the table and said your my wife

TomHardysBackpack · 23/07/2018 22:53

MrsAidenTurner - Joshua Jackson has been in lots of films and TV series - have a look on IMDB

MrsAidanTurner · 24/07/2018 10:49

Is he as attractive in other stuff

HannahnotAgnes · 24/07/2018 12:21

He's always gorgeous Mrs Grin. He was particularly lovely in Fringe (but I've loved him since Dawson's Creek, so I am biased!)

TomHardysBackpack · 24/07/2018 13:48

I've loved him since Dawson's also. I think it's more his character rather than his looks to be honest. He always plays someone who can take control of a situation.
His speech to Alison from the police cell made my heart melt Smile

MrsAidanTurner · 24/07/2018 14:09

Mine too, Tom hardy. Great speech. I love the figure, looks and character he is very emotional, graceful way of moving but also passionate.

I never saw Dawson creek this is the first thing I have seen him in.

darksideofthemooncup · 24/07/2018 22:31

God this episode was dire. Men feeling sorry for themselves and beautiful women throwing themselves at them. Trite and dreadful writing,

EdWinchester · 24/07/2018 22:43

I am irritated by Alison. She is a very bad mother. Hopped on a plane on a whim? Ridiculous.

And I simply don't get why any man would find her attractive. She's so dopey and dull.

Cantstopworryingaboutit · 24/07/2018 22:48

Alison does seem very dull this series

EachandEveryone · 24/07/2018 23:55

It was pretentious in places tonight i was rolling my eyes. At first i thought it was a change but then when they both ended up shagging much younger women i just thought it was a cop out.

The neighbour is like Whitney isnt she?

DuchessMinnie · 25/07/2018 07:41

I don't like Luisa, there's something about her that irritates me- maybe the fact she hasn't taken responsibility for her own immigration status and wants to use Alison's vulnerability to sort it out.

The men last night were so self indulgent. I'm 47 and a LP after divorce- if someone told me I was having another baby on my own for the benefit of the grandparents who would also be inheriting all his money I would run a mile. But that's ok, there's a pretty and obliging younger model next door who will do.

Alison is very drippy but I'd like to see her back together with Cole. The Ben storyline is ridiculous.

Loopytiles · 25/07/2018 09:09

Both the younger women in the episode look very much like Witney. Gratuitous offers of sex and nudity from them, while the men were dressed. Ruth Wilson has in the past talked about her contract stipulations about nudity (ie Dominic West nude at least as much): clearly less well known actors in smaller parts haven’t been able to do that. Disappointed in the producers, and the male actors for going along with it tbh.

Agree, v annoying and stereotypical to have two older men and younger women. In Vic’s case it did fit with the theme of him just thinking “fuck it, I’m going to die” and potentially wanting DC, but it was totally unnecessary to the storyline on Cole. Also romanticised Cole’s dead father’s affair with the artist woman and seemed to seek to excuse his abusiveness and addictions.

Red flags ahoy with Ben! IMO Alison showed very poor professional and personal “boundaries”, putting herself at psychological risk. Bet something bad has happened to Alison due to Ben.

PsychedelicSheep · 25/07/2018 15:02

This is the last series isn't it? I wonder if at the end Alison will end up back with Cole and Noah will end up back with Helen?

I hope not!

EachandEveryone · 25/07/2018 16:11

I thought it was the last series but i cant see any confirmation of it.

juneau · 25/07/2018 16:24

Okay, so now I'm thinking maybe it's Luisa who makes Alison disappear.

  1. Luisa has Joni (or she did when Cole left).
  2. She needs Joni to give her a reason to stay in the US.
  3. Alison stands in the way of that PLUS now Cole is going to go home and tell Luisa that he doesn't love her any more, wants to split up (and possibly that he's still in love with Alison).
