Loved season 1 and 2
Lost it in season 3 for me

Least we found out who killed him

Where can the story go

Loopytiles · 26/06/2018 13:44

Woo, starting tonight?

EachandEveryone · 26/06/2018 15:54

Found out who killed who? I never really took the last season in it was so bad.

is this one not in NYC at all then? Thats going to be strange.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/06/2018 19:39

who killed the brother in s1

EachandEveryone · 26/06/2018 19:59

Ah. I forgot about that fo you mean the car?

DuchessMinnie · 26/06/2018 21:05

Totally agree about season 3. Recording the series, looking forward to watching it later. Love Alison and Helen the best.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/06/2018 21:52

Yes the car

I didn’t want to spoil it if no me had seen

Then again no point watching s4 if Havnt seen others

FawnDrench · 26/06/2018 22:09

Wow - talk about stereotypes!
Loved it - from the kooky LA neighbour to the MIL from hell to the misunderstood student...wonderful acting, so glad it's back.

EachandEveryone · 26/06/2018 23:43

Me too. I find Helen cold though which i know i shouldnt. Noahs house is creepy i couldnt stay there. Helens is blooming amazing.

OrangeCarpet · 27/06/2018 00:58

I like Helen. But what is wrong with Vic? His mum said he’d lost weight and then he collapsed!

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 27/06/2018 01:07

I didn’t see this thread before I started one!

I feel like it’s run out of steam

Noah has followed Helen and Vik to LA - his story is a cliche of something The Wire also starring West tackled brilliantly

Alison and Pacey presumably still in Montauk it does feel like what’s the point?

Obviously still watching based on the actors involved and previous form

EachandEveryone · 27/06/2018 01:50

Another hot guy from The Wire is due to come in it. What was that about in the beginning?

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 27/06/2018 02:05

The Wire ostensibly centres round a Special Crimes Unit in Baltimore which is about smashing drug rings and associated homicides but each series has a “theme” of sorts

Series 1 : Ineffectual Policing
Series 2 : The Plight of Working Class White Man
Series 3 : Ineffectual Politics and its lack of impact on Ineffectual Policing
Series 4 : Broken Education System/Youth Crime
Series 5 : Fake News/The News Cycle

One of the best series ever made, a bit impenetrable to start as it makes no allowances for not knowing police jargon or street slang and you just have to keep up until it clicks

EachandEveryone · 27/06/2018 02:19

I agreevits brilliant but most people i know gave up during season 2. I miss it.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 27/06/2018 02:27

Season 2 is The Struggle Series definitely as it rips you away from the setting and characters you know. It massively improves on repeat viewing. Season 5 is the categorical low point - Lester would NEVER Wink

It has not been bettered Crime Anthology wise but I think it was massively ahead of its time, if it were running now, it would be winning everything in sight, the era when Subscription TV gained dominion over network TV just hadn’t happened yet, it also didn’t gain from social media etc

EachandEveryone · 27/06/2018 10:53

I know ot had a niche market. It does look dated when you watch it and it is hard work. I loved it more whem i discovered subtitles. Its such a slow burner. My father loved it. It was his favourite show and i really hoped my brother who nursed him would watch it when he passed as they were so alike. It wasnt to be though. He just didnt have the patience for the second season.

juneau · 27/06/2018 20:25

I have the full box set of 'The Wire' and have never watched it. Should I? I have a good friend who raves about it in the way I once raved about Breaking Bad.

I love The Affair, but there are things about it that really annoy me. Namely:

  1. Helen. She's just such a cold fish! Can't stand her and I can't understand why any man would want to be in a relationship with such an odd, emotionless woman, yet she always has some bloke on the go.
  2. The way the scenes play twice and are often ridiculously different from each POV that I wonder if they're the same scene at all. For eg. this week - different table in the restaurant, no Mariachi band in one version - FGS I get that it's supposed to be two different people's perspective, but do they have to be SO different?
  3. Not enough Josh Jackson.
  4. Whitney - argh!

Re: Vic. He lost weight without even trying (diabetes? cancer? what else makes you lose weight without trying?). His DM was very passive-aggressive.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 27/06/2018 20:33

Yes, Juneau !!! Absolutely watch The Wire and feel free to PM me any thoughts/questions

It has slightly dated due to technology evolving but as a turn of the century period piece it’s never been bettered.

I love Breaking Bad too but the first season is quite hard going so I’ve never managed a rewatch

jardy · 27/06/2018 21:39

Loved it.Didn't disappoint.Just wonder if the little girl is the original actress.Great acting. Will really look forward to next week's.I like Helen, she has class and a sense of humour. The mil was cold.Noah was great 👍

EachandEveryone · 27/06/2018 22:31

Theres something very attractive about Dominic West. Is this supposed to be the last seasin do we know. Why has it moved locations is it cheaper to film in LA?

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 27/06/2018 22:59

It’s meant to be cheaper to film in New York which is why lots of series moved there

I agreed about Dominic West

UNTIL

I saw him as Fred West in Appropriate Adult, not been able to look at him the same way since

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 27/06/2018 23:34

I hope Vic doesn’t die..

Loopytiles · 28/06/2018 07:37

I think it’d be good if he did, he’s annoying! His mother is awful!

EachandEveryone · 28/06/2018 15:12

I know but then they will have to go back to nyc

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 28/06/2018 21:14

If he dies Helen will be even more miserable....

I wish I was married to a successful doctor who took my kids to school while asking how I planned to relax!
