Sorry, Irma Blush * it's not that I think people are expected to know everything - of course not- but it becomes silly when it is mentioned over and over again. It almost as if some don't want to know why, Iyswim?, they'd rather just carry on about why Israel or Australia are allowed to be there.

inisfree · 13/05/2018 12:59

Love pic of Marty and Graham @JaneJeffer

Yorkshirebetty · 13/05/2018 13:27

That's really the point. Over and over again, the same thing, Israel's not in Europe, Australia isn't etc. Instead of thinking "I wonder why they compete? I might just try and find out! Many times in the Guardian.

Deathraystare · 13/05/2018 13:39

The Israeli entry was fantastic. Netta can sing, rap, and do some brilliant facial expressions. I loved it.

Yes i loved it! Knew it would be between her and the Cyprian one (cold not stand her).

I also liked Denmark, Czech Republic (cos he wiggled his bum!), Finland, Hungary.

Deathraystare · 13/05/2018 13:41

Not bitter about UK at all - not one of my faves though i thought she did well considering there was a stage invasion - but I am wonderig if we are getting even more unpopular because of Brexit???

#13 & #18 are my favourites.

Raahh · 13/05/2018 14:06

Oubliette I do like Graham.Grin. I liked number 11 Grin

I wonder whether the upset over SuRie will actually translate into people buying/downloading her song though? I feel sorry for her (though I wasn't a fan of the song)- once again, rather than being remembered for a good song/ or as a credible artist , she will be 'that one where the stage was invaded'.

HadronCollider · 13/05/2018 14:18

If ever want a realistic chance of winning we need to put in an entry with some pizzaz. Our entry was decent but forgettable (aside from the stage invasion). The top 5 all had something remarkable going on

HadronCollider · 13/05/2018 14:18

if we

The80sweregreat · 13/05/2018 14:23

we have had some good songs up since 1997 though, all of which havent done that well. last year we came third or fourth i believe? ( or year before) but that has been rare for 21 years now , we hardly ever make the left hand side of the board, Blue did quite well but they are a little bit well known in Europe for their other hits so had a slight advantage, but did not win it. we had that euro beat one ( techno tune ?) and that didnt get anywhere.
If we had put our own Bijork type it still wouldnt have won - they just seem to ignore the Uk entry! i dont think we should bother any more.

troodiedoo · 13/05/2018 14:25

She will be remembered as the one who carried on with astounding composure after a stage invasion and didn't falter. If she can do that with a duff song just think what she can do with a good one.

I would love to see her back next year with a cracking song, maybe written by Anne Marie or someone else current.

The80sweregreat · 13/05/2018 14:28

She was good and the invasion was dealt with, but they still didnt vote much for it as they didnt like the song i suppose.
says it all really! plus the jury votes were based on them singing the night before, so it was only the tele vote that may have saved her.

troodiedoo · 13/05/2018 14:31

The song was mediocre at best, I don't think we can be cross with anyone for not voting for us.

HadronCollider · 13/05/2018 14:33

I remember love shine a light (?) which won. That had a message to it and a bit of authenticity. I don't think we really enter into the spirit of it. Maybe it's our British reserve.

The80sweregreat · 13/05/2018 14:36

The UK have put forwards so many different styles and singers and groups and nothing has won. its time to bail out i think, or just go to the semi finals and see if it gets through that way maybe? they will miss our money though! if it doesnt pass the semi final at least they might put something else on worth watching then!! ( and i like the contest!)

troodiedoo · 13/05/2018 14:48

Yes but have we put forward a song that will get played on radio one and make the top ten, or even twenty? Not since Gina g.

Let's forget the imaginary Eurovision formula and do a good catchy commercial song.

troodiedoo · 13/05/2018 14:49

I would like to see us and the other big ones compete in the semis. Might up our game then.

The80sweregreat · 13/05/2018 14:50

They do play it on radio two and promote the singer on TV so its not that - Blue did fairly well as they were already known in Europe for their other hits etc, so maybe we need someone European next time?
we've tried catchy tunes as well, but all to no avail! we will never win it again! ( dramatic pause!)

Raahh · 13/05/2018 14:56

80sGrin

I think even Jade Ewen's song (which did ok in the contest) didn't set the charts alight.

We sent Englebert! And Bonnie Tyler! Grin

troodiedoo · 13/05/2018 15:02

Without meaning to offend blue, they are has beens.

If we entered a decent pop song by a current established or breakthrough artist, we would finish top five easy.

The80sweregreat · 13/05/2018 15:12

troo, i really do not think so to be honest, they just want our money to stage it all and pay for four presenters! we did indeed send Bonnie and Englebert, Bonnie said ' they love me in Europe, i will bring home the bacon' she failed us all. I have never forgiven.

Yorkshirebetty · 13/05/2018 15:18

I agree with HadronColider and others. We have such an amazing music scene here in the UK. We need to go for it, maybe take a risk, have something with character and oomph!! Be a bit colourful!

The80sweregreat · 13/05/2018 15:20

we have tried all that , the techno group were a bit like Moldova, funny and sassy and it was a good song, still didnt get anywhere though.
They truly hate us!!

icelolly99 · 13/05/2018 15:41

How can we see how the UK voted for everyone?

The80sweregreat · 13/05/2018 15:43

Ice lolly/ not sure - you could try google?
They did put it up last night briefly- Lithuania was top and lots for Ireland.
Even Ireland didn’t give suri any votes. They usually do
