Anyway I'm off to bed.

JaneJeffer · 13/05/2018 00:17

Puzzled look under Other Stuff.

Good idea OYBK

VanillaSugar · 13/05/2018 00:17

Did Portugal really come last? How rude!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 13/05/2018 00:17

Hopefully Portugal won't be hosting for a while.. Or if they do... Don't have it be like tonight lol.

Crazy how the jury and viewers vote differs.. Still not completely not political though but less obvious then used to be.

mathanxiety · 13/05/2018 00:18

I gave Portugal the two thumbs up of death it seems.

RedToothBrush · 13/05/2018 00:34

Aubrey Allegretti @ breeallegretti
A reminder: Austria's #Eurovision song, currently second place, was rejected from the BBC's 'You Decide' programme that chose the UK entry

RedToothBrush · 13/05/2018 00:46

SuRie @ surieofficial
Well, I've always said anything can happen at Eurovision ... 🤷‍♀️

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 13/05/2018 00:50

So this article was published at 8.05pm on Saturday.

Its causing a stir on social media.

Terfing · 13/05/2018 01:03

The Israeli entry was fantastic. Netta can sing, rap, and do some brilliant facial expressions. I loved it.

IrmaFayLear · 13/05/2018 11:02

I am something of a Eurovision expert (I have as many past Eurovision entries from all countries as possible in my tunes library).

I felt last night’s show was a bit messy: four presenters (of whatever gender mix) was de trop. The half-time entertainment was yawnsville.

At least Israel winning shows that your average voter is not anti-Semitic and doesn’t give a wotsit about cultural appropriation.

I felt sad for the UK entry, and we didn’t deserve such a low placing and we certainly deserved some sympathy votes, but frankly it was very pedestrian.

Bring back the old voting. Agree with pp that how else is one supposed to learn any French?!

The80sweregreat · 13/05/2018 11:06

It was boring at the start and before the voting and could have been cut by an hour.
Didn’t need 4 presenters- suri did well to carry on but we never get the votes anymore! It was a mess and I predicted Israel would win after seeing her at the semis.

Yorkshirebetty · 13/05/2018 11:19

Israel deserved to win and it was good to see a confident, quirky performance like that. I liked Denmark, and Moldova did a bit of a strange one, but it was good! I feel for the British woman, that was dreadful.

Raahh · 13/05/2018 11:21

I was trying to explain the Israeli entry to dh this morning.

I gave up Grin

We are going to need a sticky explaining what the EBU is, at the top of the Eurovision threads next year, or at least a link to WikiGrin- otherwise the threads will quickly get full of people asking why Israel are even in it, let alone hosting it. Grin

Raahh · 13/05/2018 11:24

Annoyingly, the only song that has got stuck in my head , is the Australian one! I didn't like it much , either Grin.

RedToothBrush · 13/05/2018 11:34

Dh has israel stuck in his head. Three times this morning I've had to tell him not to sing the clucking bit.

JaneJeffer · 13/05/2018 11:38

jugglingsatsumas · 13/05/2018 11:41

The half-time entertainment was yawnsville.

It's funny you should say that because we hardly saw any of the "extra" entertainment. I was watching in Italy and we had loads of ad breaks. I wonder if they just think that the extra acts are for those in the stadium plus the British with the good-old-ad-free BBC. Do other broadcasters show it ad-free?

JaneJeffer · 13/05/2018 11:53

We had plenty ad breaks in Ireland but they showed the singer from last year.

Yorkshirebetty · 13/05/2018 11:57

Raahh so true about the EBU. I was following the Guardian blog and the number of people that questioned Israel's eligibility was astonishing. Others thought Eurovision was part of the EU and thought we can't compete next year!!

OublietteBravo · 13/05/2018 12:01

For those of you who are interested, the breakdown of the semi final scores is available:
eurovisionworld.com/eurovision/2018/semi-final-1
eurovisionworld.com/eurovision/2018/semi-final-2

OublietteBravo · 13/05/2018 12:02

Malta and Latvia both failed to qualify for the final despite having high jury scores.

Poor Iceland. No points at all from the public vote.

Raahh · 13/05/2018 12:03

Yorkshire it does make you wonder about people, doesn't it? what do they think we did before the EU existedGrin?

Yorkshirebetty · 13/05/2018 12:07

I don't know!! It's an extraordinary closed attitude, isn't it? A simple visit to Prof Wikipedia would help! Smile

IrmaFayLear · 13/05/2018 12:18

Agree. Sooooooo irritating when one has to suffer the comments of people who know nothing about Eurovision and feel they are entitled to contribute without bothering to educate themselves.

Family member was told most firmly in the post office in Italy that England was not in Europe and she had to pay for worldwide postage to send me a birthday card. There were parole on both sides of the counter...
