Thought I'd start a new one as we're not far off and there'll be much to talk about this week, I I fear.

OP posts:
feltcarrot · 09/05/2018 20:52

Happy to be put right but could Daniel have been talking about Adam’s suicide attempt?

ajandjjmum · 09/05/2018 20:52

Hat's off to Coronation Street - that was an amazing episode covering so many aspects of suicide in a sensitive and informative way. I'm in floods of tears - as I suspect are most people who watched.

Hugs to those who have been personally affected.

willstarttomorrow · 09/05/2018 20:54

I have never posted before on this thead but I have always read it as however awful Corrie has become it is a habit I cannot give up. I think tonight was done really well, the actor who plays Johny was amazing. I have never lost anyone to suicide and lots of love to previous posters who have had to live through this. I did however lost DH very suddenly and I think they played the varied emotions very well. I am just pissed off this is interplayed with the bloody stupid Toyah story line. It may be irrational but it cheapens it for me.

lou1221 · 09/05/2018 20:56

@carrot yes maybe he was... It was good to see that he went looking for Adam, even though they both irritate each other.

Yorkshirebetty · 09/05/2018 20:56

Fair point, willstarttommorrow, also sorry for your loss Flowers

Mamabear1475 · 09/05/2018 20:58

@feltcarrot
I though Daniel was talking about when he locked himself in the bathroom and tried to kill himself. When his mum came back?
Toyah is really pissing me off. Bloody selfish cow. Still just thinking about herself. Tbh I don't think anybody did this justice except for johnny and Maria's reaction. Everybody else's acting seemed awful and flat.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 09/05/2018 21:01

The toyah parts really Jarred with the rest of the episode I felt. I get that she is panicked. Thinking she is going to lose her baby and potentially her partner. Maybe it was deliberate to have her acting so selfishly because that is how some people behave when in shock.

I thought Daniel was talking about the time where he was locked in the bathroom in his mum’s old flat.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 09/05/2018 21:03

I thought Eva’s reaction was quite well done. The jabbering and broken thoughts. Making no sense and memories suddenly coming back to her and making sense etc.

ajandjjmum · 09/05/2018 21:12

Totally disagree with you Mamabear - I thought that the whole cast did themselves credit tonight.

Susiesoap7 · 09/05/2018 21:29

Brilliant episode tonight, hadn't really been feeling the Aiden suicide, but thought tonight was very well done, especially Gail , very moving.

Spam88 · 09/05/2018 21:37

Well that was heavy. I agree it was excellently done. Maria had me sobbing 😢 I'm so glad David has finally told someone, and I hope Eva takes the baby back soon, toyah doesn't deserve her.

Scrabbler3 · 09/05/2018 21:37

Wonderful acting from everyone involved. Johnny and Eva particularly superb.

Realistic reactions from Beth and Toyah, disagreeable as most of us of course find them, and well portrayed by the respective actors.

I'm very sorry for all posters who have been through similar to the Connors.

CrumbliestFlakiest · 09/05/2018 21:37

Really good episode. Had me in tears more than once. I think we're really turning against Toyah now and the way she is coercing Eva at her most vulnerable. This is the sort of thing that as time goes on Eva will never get over and Toyah must know this. How can she even cling to the hope that Eva will be able to move on with her life?

Johnny, Gail, Eva were outstanding for me tonight. So glad that David confessed. They could have gone for the usual "got something to tell you... oh never mind" but it was a relief that he blurted it out, and to Shona who is a sensible choice. I hope we see justice for him.

Thanks to anyone affected personally by this story

Offthebandwagonagain · 09/05/2018 21:39

Wow. I cried my eyes out on Monday and again tonight. So moving and heartbreaking. Really well done to Shayne Ward and others. So very upsetting and very moving. He was an incredible actor in those final scenes

deadringer · 09/05/2018 21:49

I wasn't looking forward to this storyline but I agree with everyone else, an excellent and memorable couple of episodes. Johnny was terrific as was David, and i really liked Gail's narrative.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 09/05/2018 21:51

I hope David makes it to court. He needs a break. Not to make hai situation worse.

ChevalierTialys · 09/05/2018 21:54

Johnny sobbing Sad and maria and eva... carlas shock, kates rage, jennys helplessness. Daniel was probably talking about both himself and adam - he overdosed on drugs himself after everyone found out he hit Ken, then Adam swallowed pills after finding out about Susans death and Daniel found him.

Gails speech was so moving. I cried for most of the episode.

I remember reading ages ago that Kate oates wanted to cover male rape to show people that there is somewhere to turn and people to talk to, so all this time I've been wondering why then are they not showing David talking about it? Now I realise she wanted to tie that in with the message to talk about depression and suicidal feelings. She said she felt it was important for David to have the last word as he was on the same path as Aiden. So glad he's finally told someone.

CrumbliestFlakiest · 09/05/2018 21:58

@ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo yes, sadly i don't think that David will have an easy time. The lack of prosecutions for rape is another topical issue which i expect they'll want to touch on. Particularly as it will now be one word against another. Perhaps as others have suggested there may be other victims in Josh's past who will come to light.

I would love to see David and Gail rebuild their relationship at some point but he really seems to have no respect for her.

ChevalierTialys · 09/05/2018 21:59

So sorry to those who have lost someone this way. It leaves such a massive crater in peoples lives, especially having no explanation. Flowers

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 09/05/2018 22:17

Oh I meant to add earlier, the moment that absolutely broke me was when Michelle told Carla she loved her. They’ve not been speaking recently due to Michelle’s horrible son playing them off against each other and I just thought how much more important their relationship is to each other. They’re like sisters and life is too short for not speaking.

millimat · 09/05/2018 22:22

Best episode in ages. Italy hope David and shona get back together now - how true about talking to someone.
I've luckily never been in a situation like the connors - so sorry to anyone this may have affected.

LoveMySituation · 09/05/2018 22:34

Just saw tonight's. Like others, I liked Gail's speech, and juxtaposing it with people's reactions was a nice touch. All so sad, and David telling Shona he had been close to doing something to himself, but what happened to Aiden made him realise that he wanted to live was v emotional. It's just shocking to think how many families go through this every single day. Flowers for anyone that has

ellenanora5 · 09/05/2018 22:37

I thought it was done very well, very good all round, great acting from everyone.

I actually thought the best part was when Shona went to look for David and he just told her, "I was raped Josh raped me" I thought that was very powerful, David and Shona are great actors.

I loved Gails narrative, very moving.

Great episode Corrie, keep it up.

Frillyfarmer · 09/05/2018 22:49

The fucking continuity announcer announced it before the programme aired. Ffs.

It’s fucking triggering, can you pull your head out of your arse and read this thread to understand that?

It isn’t a spoiler, it was announced via all methods of media that this was the storyline - it wasn’t meant to be a surprise plot, it’s a very sensitive subject and those of us who have dealt with the utter devastation it causes in our lives appreciate the heads up because a soap re-enacting the worst possible moments of your life can bring everything back up like it was yesterday - you have no idea how insensitive some of you are.

I thought tonight’s episode was amazing, wonderful acting and Toyah 100% painted as the new Phelan villain of the street, what a selfish little turd.

I know it’s just a soap but I feel incredibly sad after watching it. I thought David opening up to shona was wonderful acting from both of them.

southeastdweller · 09/05/2018 22:51

I liked bits of it but I hated the Toyah crap. Gail's soliloquy was well-meaning but speeches in TV dramas feel odd and silly, which is why they're usually only ever in plays (indeed, tonight's writer was Jonathan Harvey, who's written numerous plays).

The acting wasn't too wonderful from the usual suspects. Heavy stories like this always highlight the weaker actors but Richard Hawley as Johnny blew me away - "I don't have love you, you know" Sad

I liked Beth's reaction in that I thought it was realistic. It's not an opinion I share but I understand why some people think suicide is selfish.
