Strike is back tonight at 9pm. I loved the book, I can't wait! Tom and Holliday don't hurt either Grin

Who else'll be watching?

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll be watching!

Becauseimworthit79 · 25/02/2018 14:23

Me! Love Tom Burke.

eloisesparkle · 25/02/2018 15:42

I'll be watching.

Littlewhistle · 25/02/2018 16:02

I will as I enjoyed the first two. I read The Cuckoo's Calling and found it boring and far too long as was the first (and only) HP book I read.

Far easier to watch on telly! Grin]

frazzled3ds · 25/02/2018 21:15

Watching! Robin's fella is a right pain the butt ....

JanetStWalker · 25/02/2018 21:55

This one seems really faithful to the book, it's how I pictured it anyway.

Clawdy · 25/02/2018 22:04

Just too grim and gory for me. How many foul, unspeakable men and incidents can they cram into one hour??

YellowPrimula · 25/02/2018 22:06

I always thought this would be the hardest to adapt , it's so detailed and I do feel frustrated at how much is being cut out . Still enjoying it though

Prometheus · 25/02/2018 22:12

I loved the books and love the adaptation. However they've cut so much in the TV adaptation that if you haven't read the book I don't think you would understand what's happening from just the TV show. They need to allow a few weeks of episodes to truly do benefit for the books.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 25/02/2018 22:18

I really enjoyed it (though I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight). A lot was cut but I think it manages to stay true to the book.

Central London to Barrow in a 50+ year old Defender?! And then nipping back via Corby? Envy - and that's not jealousy, that's extreme travel sickness.

And yes, enough with the brutalising of women. This, and Collateral last week - ugh.

honeyroar · 25/02/2018 22:26

We've got a Landrover of a similar vintage, you can't hear yourself think in it, let alone have a conversation! That one sounded more like a posh sports car, and it didn't bump around or rattle. I could barely concentrate on the rest it was bugging me so much.

Twiceover · 25/02/2018 22:34

I was also distracted by how chipper they looked after travelling from London to Barrow in the elderly landy. Bleurgh.

He is lush though, I could watch him all day Grin.

southeastdweller · 25/02/2018 22:37

I was disappointed. Feels very cookie-cutter to me compared to the book, lacking in suspense. The killer's point of view was a big part of the book but they've dropped that.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 26/02/2018 01:32

Not read the books but the two leads v watchable especially Tom Wink

futuristic1 · 26/02/2018 07:21

Much better that the previous adaptations.

Finally, the dawning of the reality of having one leg - you won't be able to walk to all your appointments on the other side of London - you need an assistant with a car - yay!!!

Well done producers!!!

Not enough of Catford - but I'm hopeful for episode 2.

Accents are still about floaty northern -

Robin - Practical Bubble from AbFab

Strike - Cornish Norfolk independent school

ToffeeUp · 26/02/2018 07:51

I haven't read the books but I enjoyed this episode.

Grin at the comments on the accents, landrover comfort and nipping over to Corby from Barrow.

WalnutChiefWhip · 26/02/2018 08:36

Pool-playing sister in Barrow pub - generic Coronation Street 'northern'.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/02/2018 08:43

Very gruesome but great viewing. Love Tom, such a crush on him and he’s way too young for me. Love Holliday too. Can’t wait until the last episode.

Curtainshopping · 26/02/2018 10:29

Haven't read the books but feel like I understand what's going on. Great chemistry between the leads and that fucking fiancé of hers, please tell me Strike gets to lump him one at some point.

MinesaPinot · 26/02/2018 13:25

I am will to forgive any deviation from book, near time travel in an aged Landrover and dodgy accents just for the sheer joy of having Tom Burke on the telly again, even if it was only for last night and next week.

So there.

MinesaPinot · 26/02/2018 13:25

willing even

MargoLovebutter · 26/02/2018 14:25

Ah, Tom Burke. Plot was a bit thin, in fact the whole thing felt a bit thin but Tom Burke somehow manages to look really hot in it (in a deliciously disheveled way), so I'd watch him even if he were just painting a wall.

JeremiahBackflip · 26/02/2018 17:14

I found the book to be overly long, complicated and lacking in Tom Burke.

The adaptation is much better.

All the acting is good tbh, apart from Super Hans playing Bad Super Hans. But I like him so he gets away with it.

I will need to watch it again as it did seem to skip a lot of the story and I don't know how much I'm filling in from knowing the books and how much was actually included.

madeyemoodysmum · 26/02/2018 20:57
