Strike is back tonight at 9pm. I loved the book, I can't wait! Tom and Holliday don't hurt either Grin

Who else'll be watching?

Tom was my favourite Musketeer too.
He's so tortured. I want to look after him.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/03/2018 23:05

I've always found Tom B attractive - it's the scar on his lip that does it for me. He's twice as sexy as Robyn's wet cheating fiancé Angry Or husband now, I should say.

LadyKyliePonsonbyFarquhar · 04/03/2018 23:07

I didn't understand any of the plot and I read the book less than a year ago. I just watched it for Robyn and Strike. (Mainly Strike actually).

HelenaDove · 05/03/2018 00:23

Gutted that she married that controlling hypocritical arsehole.

WhirlwindHugs · 05/03/2018 06:57

I think is should have been three as well. It didn't really do justice to the bits about Strike's past..

Also gah at the wedding!!

I reread what happened in the book last night because I was convinced she hadn't married that wanker. (she does, but it ends with her staring at comoran

Mrsmadevans · 05/03/2018 08:58

We all watched it last night (3 of us) and totally got lost . I couldn't fathom out what the hell was going on . I totally agree though the two main characters are brilliant .

MargoLovebutter · 05/03/2018 09:45

I literally didn't understand any of it. It may as well have been in a foreign language. I had no idea who was who, or who killed who, or who abused who and how any of them were connected BUT Tom Burke was completely edible, so I stayed tuned.

youngestisapsycho · 05/03/2018 11:20

I haven't a clue what went on, or who was who!
When Matthew was alone in flat and the killer was out the back smashing the lights I was really hoping he was gonna break in and kill Matthew!

Ickyockycocky · 05/03/2018 13:39

This show offers so much promise. I love the two main characters and the dark side to the plot but following the plot was something else.

If anyone has read the book, can they tell me if the plot is easier to follow?

Magi84 · 05/03/2018 15:36

Yes in fact the book is much easier to follow. I have read all three and found this one the one with most content that could progress as an investigation. I do enjoy it on TV as I think Tom Burke makes a great Cormoron but have to admit that a story like this one really does need more than two episodes. That is why it seems so hard to follow so much cut out.

longtompot · 05/03/2018 15:46

I need to read the book. I started when I bought it years ago, but freaked out with the first chapter and didn't pick it up again.
I thought this series should have been longer than two episodes, and it felt really rushed. I also didn't appreciate the bbc with their voiceover ruining the end credits song.

Figgygal · 05/03/2018 15:56

Agreed I'm another one who couldn't really work out the ins and outs of what was going on I thought it was just me

Definitely love the two main characters I wonder how long it will be until there's another one

Hardwickwhite · 05/03/2018 16:56

That was great. I do hope there is another soon - just to watch those fab titles if nothing else!

Littlewhistle · 05/03/2018 17:23

I had no idea what was going on. Why did the man kill his sister-in-law? I'm not going to read the book either as I read The Cuckoo's Call(ing) or whatever it was called and lost interest half way through.

I watch it for Strike and Robin but can't believe she went through with the wedding to that wet blanket Matthew.

Becauseimworthit79 · 05/03/2018 18:05

They’ve changed the plot, whistle. I don’t recall Donald being Kelsey’s BIL.
There’s lots missing.

picklemepopcorn · 05/03/2018 18:17

He so is controlling, and would get worse the longer she stayed with him!

RiaOverTheRainbow · 05/03/2018 19:27

Laing was married to Kelsey's sister in the book. He killed her because he is a psychopath/serial killer (in the book he also kills other women), because he wanted to frame Strike as revenge for putting him in prison, and because she was there and easy for him to manipulate.

OP posts:
Becauseimworthit79 · 05/03/2018 19:45

I vaguely remember Laing referring to a partner as “it”.

eloisesparkle · 05/03/2018 19:49

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who had a problem following the programme. I thought it was my own stupidity.
The suspects were not clearly defined enough I felt.
I had to google the plot after watching last night.

MrsGrindah · 05/03/2018 19:56

I thought this was the worst storyline of all of the episodes so far , but reading others comments sounds like it was abridged too far ( ha ha!)
I also love the opening credits and I think you really get a sense of London. Love the two main characters and in a way don’t want them to get together . Tom Burke is completely gorgeous and I feel like an old lech for saying that but I don’t care! Thought the scene about the child telling her Mum about sexual abuse was so badly done. Also did anyone spot the error “He grabbed me from behind so I kneed him in the groin” ?!

picklemepopcorn · 05/03/2018 20:05

Yes, I spotted that!
I think they cut this badly, so it didn't quite make sense anymore.

WhirlwindHugs · 05/03/2018 20:35

Yes, I noticed that. I also really disliked the clumsy scene where Matt block Cormoran's number on her phone. It just felt like it was filmed to wedge in the phone block as quickly as possible.

I can't understand why they didn't do 3 episodes per book. Especially after lots of people complained about that with the earlier seasons.

sunglasses · 05/03/2018 21:32

Reading all the comments above about how it was crammed into 2 episodes. My newspaper tv listings said this should have been episode 2 of 3. After 10 minutes into the episode broadcast I assumed I had missed an episode as it just didn’t make any sense. Anyone else think this was the case and they actually broadcast the wrong episode ( either that or we all missed apisode 2 somehow! )

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 05/03/2018 23:11

This was a bit clunky wasn't it.

Thought Strike was going to do a "Benjamin last scene in The Graduate "
Unfortunately as soon as his mate (Shanker?) suggested that, it became very unlikely more's the pity.

melj1213 · 06/03/2018 02:09

Oh thank God I am not the only one who didn't have a clue what was going on!

I have read all of the books but not for at least 6 months or so, so I had forgotten a lot of the plot and while watching this episode I was beginning to question if I was recalling the right book's plot as it was so rushed and confused!

This should definitely have been at least 3 parts (or if they were adamant it had to be done as 2 parts, make each part 90 minutes long) as there just wasn't enough time for everything.
