Justaboy · 06/03/2018 10:06

Yes Strike is an amputee. Yes know that ment the bloke who plays his part else who's amputed foot are we looking at don't see it in the credits;?.

NorbertTheDragon · 06/03/2018 10:14

I'm so glad, I thought I was thick not understanding what was happening!
Especially how Robin was grabbed from behind but kneed him in the groin!

It definitely should have been more than two episodes.

Are there anymore books for them to film? I haven't read the books, so might have to get hold of them. (Adds to already huge list of books I must read!)

PatricianOfAnkhMorpork · 06/03/2018 10:20

I love this but hadn't a clue what was going on in this latest one or who any of them were. Robin definitely shouldn't have married Matt and how did he not notice both security lights being taken out when he was in the kitchen?

For those asking about Tom's leg - he has both of his legs happily but they use a mix of CGI and a leg double for some close ups.

Norbert Lethal White is the next book according to Wiki.

WhirlwindHugs · 06/03/2018 19:23

Next book not out yet, not sure how many she will do!

They are very good, the plot is much better explained! And Cormoran and Robin's backgrounds are also much more detailed. The Silk Worm is my least favourite though, just don't particularly like the story.

HappydaysArehere · 07/03/2018 10:42

Love the two characters. Enjoying it a lot.

BitOfFun · 07/03/2018 15:09

I think I might have to read the book to understand! I noticed the knee to the groin thing, and also that the girl at the commune automatically assumed Strike's partner was female when he hadn't specified.

Was he genuinely angry when he sacked Robin, or was it more that it was a good excuse to keep her out of danger?

Roomba · 07/03/2018 16:17

Should have been at least 3 parts, if not more. I thought I'd missed an episode by mistake until 10 mins into part 2 as well! Far too much had to be cut out, it wasn't easy to follow what was going on or who was who at all if you'd not read the book. Condensing complex characters with huge back stories into ten seconds of quick explanation to Robin wasn't good enough at all.

A shame as it is well acted despite the rushed plot. Though I did have to laugh when Super Hanson appeared! Of course, who else would play that part? Do you reckon he wakes up as Super Hanson every day, all smudged eyeliner and velvet jacket? I saw him play a pathologist in something last year - but he was still playing Super Hans pretending to be a pathologist while on a drugs binge Grin

Try the audio book version. Narrated by Robert Glennister.

I'm disappointed they left out the Shanker back story and the whole "trans-abled" subplot.

Roomba · 07/03/2018 16:21

Super Hanson? Grin Obviously I meant Super Hans! Am picturing the boy band as dodgy girlfriend beating druggy ex rockstars with Ken Dodd hair now...

user1486915549 · 07/03/2018 16:43

You have all cheered me up.
I thought it was only me who didn’t understand it at all , and was seriously worried about my memory!

Becauseimworthit79 · 07/03/2018 18:58

Bit of fun- Strike had to sack Robin to protect her. To make it clear nvincing, he had to go to Robin’s house and do it with Matthew and Robin’s Mum within earshot.
With Robin out the way, he was able to lure Donnie with a decoy, namely Alyssa, in a public place, while he broke into his house.

Oblomov18 · 17/03/2018 16:11

Can't believe she married him! Sad

Simulcrum · 18/03/2018 04:58

I loved the books and think that the tv show has captured the spirit of it very well. I think that the leads are good actors, but are both too good looking for their respective roles. Any thoughts?

Pemba · 18/03/2018 05:43

Tom Burke is more handsome than Strike is described in the books, yes, but he gets the feel of him right though I think, and sort of bulks himself out as pps said. And Holliday Grainger is pretty, and Robin is introduced as a pretty girl in the first book, so that's about right I'd say.

They are a very engaging pair of actors, and like a lot of people I think I'm more interested in Robin and Strike then in the cases they are solving!

I'd already seen HG in a lot of things, particular remember her as Lucretia Borgia in 'The Borgias' with Jeremy Irons as her dad the Pope. She was brilliant in that. Only seen Tom Burke before in 'The Musketeers' and in that I didn't like him that much, but I think that's because the character he was playing was quite arrogant (preferred Aramis and D'Artagnan). Love him in this though!

I hope they hurry up with the next series of Strike.

fascicle · 24/03/2018 16:24

Book 4, Lethal White, now finished according to new pinned tweet on J K Rowling's Twitter.

VeganCatLover · 24/03/2018 20:43

I liked it to begin but after she married that weasel I won't be watching again. I was so angry watching that scene Blush

Pemba · 25/03/2018 00:01

I have a feeling that the marriage won't work out, though, Vegan. I wouldn't stop watching.
