Do we have/want a thread? I'm super excited, love the Winter Olympics, it's one of those things I end up obsessed with and staying up half the night!

Anybody else?

Yes, me! Watched the qualifying skiing and ski jumps tonight. Bonkers!

MistyMeadow · 08/02/2018 22:47

I'm 'working from home' tomorrow so planning a good day of watching and then DH is on nights for a week so I can watch it from my bed - hurrah!

I love the Olympics, I have no clue about how any winter sports work but will watch them anyway, I love a good emotional medal win too

MrsJoshDun · 08/02/2018 22:49

I’m excited, though not enough to stay up at night.

Excited for snowboarding and figure skating.

Floralnomad · 08/02/2018 22:50

I watch a lot of winter sports anyway thanks to Eurosport’s excellent coverage , and am particularly interested in the Biathlon and Cross country skiing .

ToffeeUp · 08/02/2018 22:55

I will be watching, especially the long track speed skating

MistyMeadow · 08/02/2018 22:56

I like almost all of them, I've been excited for weeks! I watched a lot of 5am curling from Sochi as DD was 6 months old and a hideous sleeper!

Just realised it starts on Saturday! I love the winter Olympics. Don't think I will be staying up though. I have some days off work coming up in week 2 (it is two weeks, right?) though so I am then planning some binge watching via iPlayer. In the meantime I'll catch up on the highlights in the evenings.

murasaki · 08/02/2018 23:13

Bring on the curling. Housework on ice.

murasaki · 08/02/2018 23:14

Also more seriously, Lizzie Yarnold, Elise Christie, love all the figure skating, but how do the timings work out for us over here? WIll we get much live?

Butterymuffin · 08/02/2018 23:18

All the live coverage starts between midnight and 1am each night on BBC1.

icelolly99 · 09/02/2018 11:12

Yep love it; in another life I'd be a track athlete or a bob sledder;

ApocalypseNowt · 09/02/2018 11:21

I become a world class pundit on sports I know feck all about. It's very satisfying.

What's that one where 4 snowboarders race each other round a short course with loads of jumps? Luffs that one I do.

ToffeeUp · 09/02/2018 15:06

I think that is the snowboard cross. Fast, exciting and fun to watch.

Livelounge · 09/02/2018 17:22

Schedule is brutal for us!

uk.businessinsider.com/winter-olympics-figure-skating-arena-empty-nbc-time-zone-2018-2?r=US&IR=T

10am start times so the Americans can show things in prime time. Ugh that's 1am for us so will take some commitment!

Estrelizia · 09/02/2018 20:27

Turned on the advertised Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony highlights to watch with family who were at work all day so didn't see it live only to find 40 minutes of talking heads and 20 minutes of the ceremony .Really disappointed as I was home and saw most of it and it was beautiful . Hope coverage of the actual events will be minimal talk and more action

Butterymuffin · 09/02/2018 21:00

I think iPlayer will be our friend. Can get too proper coverage that way but skip through any talky or less interesting bits.

Saw a lot of the opening ceremony and enjoyed it. Very moving seeing the joint Korea team coming out.

LightsOnNotIn · 10/02/2018 09:02

Please help! In the last Olympics there was a brilliant downhill event where about 4 skiers all left the top at the same time. I think there were slaloms. They would sometimes elbow each other. It was great to watch. Does anyone know what it's called? I can't see it listed for this year.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/02/2018 10:52

I think it’s ski cross. I think it’s in the last couple of days of the Olympics.

PurpleDaisies · 10/02/2018 10:54

That’s definitely ski cross. One of my favourites.

I love the Olympics. I had a bad attack of insomnia last night and watched some pairs figure skating. I’ve got the short track on now.

MistyMeadow · 10/02/2018 12:36

Loving it this morning! Skating just now and thx 'long distance skiing' (not sure if it's technical name) whilst getting showered this morning!

I watched the moguls this morning , it's amazing they don't become a cropper

mirage937 · 10/02/2018 14:55

im watching it now, i cant believe they are still jumping at all most midnight there, it must be a very long day

ToffeeUp · 10/02/2018 15:11

I am watching the jumping too after watching the short and long track speedskating earlier.

You have to admire the people watching the ski jump.

ToffeeUp · 10/02/2018 15:16

Some interesting moustaches Grin
