Why only 4 graves at the end? Are we meant to think that chief witch woman somehow posessed Matilda to become the Archangel?

Is Hal in love with Matilda?

I like your thinking on it all @Heatheroo

I also love Matilda's hair Blush and her dress sense. The actress that plays her not real mum is incredible. She is also in a channel 4 program written by the guy that does train spotting and filth, I'm a little in love with her in that.

When Tilly and Shaun were in the woods I'm sure she was saying about the woman who raised her - Janice, and he said 'So Janice took you then'. It seemed as though they had known her as Janice?!

I hope Hal turns out to be OK. Tilly was so mean to him! Only at the house though I noticed, maybe the house will turn out to be of more significance.

Agree it was a rubbish ending, it went from spooky and interesting to stupid and confusing.

See what I really didn't get is why Trudie's dad had to clean "the mucky shirt" the day Carys disappeared?? Was it implied he had dug the grave and buried the little boy? Or killed a sheep ("best roast lamb in Wales"?)

Also in ep 3 where there was a whole field of dead sheep, who killed them? Were the coven trying to get back at the farmer? Did the thin ones feed off them or were the sheep just knocked out by the weed fumes ?

There are literally so many unanswered questions in this. It's not fair on the audience.

PS. did anybody else notice that the cave where Sean said the thin ones liked to hang out was also where they filmed one of the later episodes of The Living and the Dead? It's where a homeless man was living in that series, too- where Alice's body was found.

Thought it was a bit lazy of the BBC tbh.

Matilda's dad in the woods killed all the sheep when the spirit people possessed him and made him do it. He is seen later roasting lamb legs over a fire.

bluecashmere · 21/02/2018 18:13

I think Trudy's dad's shirt was dirty from a roll in the hay with Rose. She was supposed to be at work but called in sick - presumably to spend time with him while his wife babysat.

So true about the fringe, a very odd length.

On the web her fringe was the regular length, just above her eyes.

windchimesabotage · 18/03/2018 12:39

Loved this series and am really looking forward to the next one!
Hopefully there is a next one because theres loads of loose ends to tie up?

I also loved Matildas fringe...... genuinely im considering getting a fringe like that cut. I think shes a style icon. Especially with the silver dress and the jumper with ridiculously massive sleeves.

llangennith · 18/03/2018 12:46

Really disappointed at the ending. Like when a child writes a story and then they have to finish quickly so they just make up a silly ending.

Pemba · 18/03/2018 17:27

I agree, Ilangennith , so many series seem to end up like this. So many loose ends. I think it has been set up for a second series though, maybe where Matilda, with the help of Hal and Trudy, gets free of the Archangel or demon that is possessing her.

It was reasonably enjoyable, apart from the rush ending, but I will be annoyed if this gets a second series, when that other supernatural drama 'The Living and the Dead' (you know, set in Victorian times, with Colin Morgan aka Merlin) does not. TL&TD was SO much better, and the ending was pointing so clearly to a second series. Quite frustrating.

Perhaps the reason is that the Living and the Dead, being a costume drama, would cost more to make. But there have been so many dud BBC dramas, I wish they would make fewer, but of better quality.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2018 09:39

I didn’t understand the ending

So the policewoman stole her to avoid going into the cult so she was Carys

The cult chose her as the boy died

Hal was eating sheep due to being processed

Pemba · 19/03/2018 19:14

I think the cult wanted someone with 'a pure heart' - so they thought a child would be good. Later that woman said they realised it had to be someone willing as well. So it turned out that it was better that Matilda had arrived voluntarily as an adult for a 'pure' reason - that being that she wanted to save the boy, Davey (?).

They wanted someone to become possessed by that spirit that had originally been called up centuries ago by John Dee. And now that has happened to Matilda. Still uncertain whether the spirit was supposed to be an angel - or the Devil/a demon. Killing and burying four people doesn't seem very angelic though! Of course in Christian mythology the devil is a fallen angel.

There were other spirits there too - the 'Thin Ones'? They didn't explain much about that. I assume one of them possessed Hal, that's why he was naked and eating a sheep? They really didn't explain much, did they? Maybe they plan to in another series.

Actually it's a bit disturbing that in many TV shows films in recent years angels are supposed to be bad/scary. Like in the film and series 'Legion'. Also the stone angels in 'Doctor Who'. I wonder why this is - an attempt at putting people of religion? Not that I'm religious myself But I thought angels were supposed to be good/comforting?
