Why only 4 graves at the end? Are we meant to think that chief witch woman somehow posessed Matilda to become the Archangel?

OP posts:
ReelingLush18 · 09/02/2018 09:26

Lamb dishes seemed to feature everywhere, didn't they? Maybe the whole town was in on sheep rustling????

LillianGish · 09/02/2018 15:58

DS and I were also shouting "Do a DNA test" (Silent Witness fans). can't believe that was never once suggested.

Panga63 · 09/02/2018 16:04

With all the angst ridden shots to camera throughout, i reckon she was constipated.
It could have been edited down to half the length and been a better story!

KayaG · 10/02/2018 08:04

I've arrived fro the other thread hoping to solve the mystery of the graves. I think Aussie bloke as well.

ReelingLush18 · 10/02/2018 09:16

I think that the camera showing Matilda tenderly touching his cheek/hair (after the 'possession') was supposed to be significant. Maybe she let him off? He was an unwilling participant in the whole affair and wasn't going to hang around, left to his own devices.

Maybe anyone who had meant anything to her (including Hal) would be 'spared'? The possessed powers only seemed to be used (once she had them) to get rid of the baddies???

AnaisB · 10/02/2018 09:44

I think the musician thing is significant as she refers to music as being “something inside myself that has to come out” which I took as reference to some sort of incomplete possession. TFJ also make refernce to the last attempts when Carys was a child not being completed.

I love her fringe Blush

AnaisB · 10/02/2018 09:46

Last attempts at summoning the archangel I mean

Definitely think there’ll be a second series. There’s lots of dangling storylines to tie up.

bluecashmere · 10/02/2018 13:29

According to an article on the Radio Times site it was conceived as a two series story. It doesn't sound like it's been commissioned as yet though so even if they decide to go ahead it will be a long while until we have the loose ends tied up.

Supersuzie · 10/02/2018 13:36

So if 3 people died in the car crash, which included Matilda and Mary, the cop, took Carys, there must've been 4 people in the car? Why did the couple in the car have Carys with them? How did they crash? Did Mary cause them to crash to rescue Carys?
No answer to that!

yrhengi · 10/02/2018 13:39

I don't think Carys was ever in the car - Mary just used the identity of the dead mother and daughter to run away with Carys, and use their ID to 'become' Janice and Matilda.

ToffeeUp · 10/02/2018 15:19

Like yrhengi said, the car crash involved 3 people and was used to provide Mary and Carys with new ID's to become Janice and Matilda.

Supersuzie · 10/02/2018 15:47

Didn't think of that. ThanksSmile

Supersuzie · 10/02/2018 15:48

How is Hal alive? Everyone likes lamb in Wales...lol

museumum · 10/02/2018 20:15

Laura?
What was her part in any of it?

VanillaSugar · 10/02/2018 23:15

The Radio Times bod has read this thread and nicked your witty repartee about the fringe and coat Hmm

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 11/02/2018 09:39

I finished watching all 6 episodes in the early hours of this morning & felt letdown by the ending, definitely left the way open for a second series. I couldn't sleep afterwards, not due to fear, I just kept going over everything, so many unanswered questions. But re only 4 bodies, remember when Mathilda stroked Aussie guy's face, well I think Tara F stroked his face that time when she was outside with him when they were discussing selling off his antiques, I'm sure when Mathilda saw them in the grounds TF was touching his face, if that is so (& I'm not sure I can be bothered to go back & check) that could be the clue that TF/archangel has now take over Mathilda's body. And yes to the DNA test, why the hell did no-one mention that straight off.

Gisele12 · 11/02/2018 11:20

Just finished and can not understand anything that’s happened!!

MsFortunaMajor · 11/02/2018 13:56

If angels are divine beings, and beings who are good not evil, why would the group summon angels in the first place? And why would the coven think that the angels (divine beings, remember) would happily do their bidding even though the coven had evil intentions? Angels are not seen as evil beings in religious culture. What did the coven think they would achieve by summoning angels? The devil is a fallen angel, but he is the exception, not the rule. In Christian teachings anyway.

I am confused by the ending, but my interpretation is that Matilda was possessed by the angel to kill the coven, who had done evil things and deserved to be punished for their crimes. I saw the angel as being a good force, possessing Matilda so that she could be saved from the coven.

I think the angels riding humans were confused and scared in our world. They latched on to the nearest human as a host body, until they could return to their world. Harlan had the marks on his neck when he was eating the sheep.

It was such a slow build up and then they didn't even bother to show us what happened with Matilda's possession and the murders all happening off screen.

MsFortunaMajor · 11/02/2018 14:02

Sorry, it's Hal not Harlan. Not sure where I got that from!

phlebasconsidered · 11/02/2018 15:53

I think the Aussie is the boy who was adopted by them, shipped off to Oz after the first failed attempt and brought back as a long lost relative.

Angels aren't always good. They are powerful and often have very specific jobs. Some were warmongers, others were retributive. Metatron was the voice of God. Some of them were horrible!

I hope it does get commissioned again.

I think Rose agreed to let her go with Janice and Trudys dad was helping them.

bluecashmere · 11/02/2018 16:07

It is Harlan Fortuna - it's mentioned a few times, but just shortened to Hal.

bluecashmere · 11/02/2018 16:09

But the boy died and was buried. They said that. He was given too much sedative, and that guy in the bus found his body.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 11/02/2018 16:17

@DarthNigel I also fell in love with the black and white jacket. After a long time fruitlessly googling a combination of 'coat jacket coatigan knitted monochrome black white tapestry inca boho intarsia" etc etc, I found the name of the head of Wardrobe in the show on imdb, found her website, found her twitter and tweeted to ask Grin She unexpectedly replied and... It's cocking vintage. Angry

MsFortunaMajor · 11/02/2018 20:21

Even so phlebasconsidered, angels do God's bidding, they are not demonic beings. They are servants of God, going by religious texts anyway.

Ah thank you, bluecashmere, that was confusing me.

DarthNigel · 12/02/2018 07:36

DrRanjswhiteeyebrow....noooooo! (But I admire your resolve to find it-i just googled about a bit and then gave up.Really with that sort of dedication they should just give it you you surely?)
