Why only 4 graves at the end? Are we meant to think that chief witch woman somehow posessed Matilda to become the Archangel?

OP posts:
ReelingLush18 · 07/02/2018 13:54

I reckon we should be able to tell who survived the bloodbath by the size of the graves....

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/02/2018 15:01

@DarthNigel He will always be Bates to me too, just as Simon Kunz will always be the guy who's wife "never stopped bonking old Toby de Lisle"!

sazzler123 · 07/02/2018 16:40

Why did Rose embrace her and look into her eyes so intently saying "I missed you" like it was only then she really knew?
Also why did she decline Trudys call in the bathroom? What was the relevance of that?
If she had knifed Steven and the doctor women first why was her shirt not covered in blood when she approached Aussie guy in the kitchen?

ReelingLush18 · 07/02/2018 17:14

I thought her dad would have intuited that she'd been possessed by the devil though?

Goodness knows - I assumed it wasn't her who knifed Steven and the doctor (Verity?).

sazzler123 · 07/02/2018 18:59

I think i just got it!!!She saved the Aussie guy-he possesses her. When she sees him in the kitchen she touches the side of his head near his ear and does this again in the bathroom when she has black eyes. She then rejects the call from Trudy making a reference to him rejecting the calls from Hal when he stole her phone. She smiles as she recalls what happened

ReelingLush18 · 08/02/2018 08:00

But didn't we clearly see the 'devil' take possession of her in that creepy well? Although maybe she can 'pass on' the deranged devil part of herself - so the Aussie guy committed the murders on her behalf?

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/02/2018 09:27

Did the Aussie murder his great aunt? I thought it was implied.

yrhengi · 08/02/2018 10:22

I have questions.

What was Nick's big thing about needing money? And needing to leave for Australia the day before?

How come Matilda's lovely powder blue coat could be all bloody and earthy after her experience in the forest with Sean, then immaculate afterwards?

Am presuming the host of worker angels somehow dragged four bodies into the forest and buried them not very well. Is it a bit prosaic to picture said worker angels then getting busy with a string mop and bucket? Were they responsible for the magical coat dry cleaning too?

What was the point of her being a famous cellist, other than to alert Tara Fitzgerald to her whereabouts? And if keeping her identity secret was such a big deal, surely Janice would have steered her away from becoming a famous cellist in the first place?

ReelingLush18 · 08/02/2018 10:26

How come Matilda's lovely powder blue coat could be all bloody and earthy after her experience in the forest with Sean, then immaculate afterwards? Funnily enough I said the same thing to DH! It just didn't look like the type of coat you could put in a washing machine, did it? And blood is notoriously difficult to get out of fabric (even on a boil wash).

What was Nick's big thing about needing money? And needing to leave for Australia the day before? Yes the implication was that he was in some type of trouble 'back home' but we never really got to the bottom of that.

yrhengi · 08/02/2018 10:37

These questions might make it seem as if I didn't enjoy it... I did, honest!

and another thing... Nick took her mobile phone 'because 'they' told me to keep an eye on you'. Did I miss that bit? Or was it just understood? It felt as if a few critical scenes with his character got lost in the final edit: I couldn't work out why he had to be from Australia, and whether he was actually involved in his great-aunt's death or not.

Yes, and what WAS that business about dismissing Trudy's call about at the end?

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/02/2018 10:40

And blood is notoriously difficult to get out of fabric (even on a boil wash).

It's got to be washed in cold water immediately, although where Matilda found the time for that, I really don't know. I know this not from having got away with committing murder several times, but from period leakage!

ReelingLush18 · 08/02/2018 11:05

That's true (QueenofTheAndals) - probably where I've been going wrong all these years!

At least they worked the clothes continuity well with her rewearing items rather than wearing something new every scene. A pity really because I rather liked the bold choices she wore (particularly the silver dress at the beginning) and would have liked to see a wider wardrobe repertoire!

ToffeeUp · 08/02/2018 11:13

Watched the last episode yesterday and agree with the comments on here. Enjoyed the series but disappointing, rushed ending.

Did Matilda dig the graves herself, they kept showing her dirty fingernails?

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/02/2018 11:16

Ahhhh, now I get the relevance of the fingernail shots!

Fwaggle · 08/02/2018 11:22

So many questions. Does Harlan still like his lamb rare? Was he responsible for earlier sheep slaughters, or is it the mythical thin people? Where does Matilda get her fringe cut - I'd like to steer clear from that salon. Why did Trudy's dad have nothing to do with the finale? Why did the Aussie wimp suddenly get involved, and why did he let two random's who'd crashed his uncle's funeral stay with him in the first place? Do you often make a cup of tea in the middle of a satanic ritual? It seems quite chilled. More like Slimmer's World with caves. And, most pressingly - where do you buy magical self-cleaning clothes. I mean she got blood all over that pale blue coat, but a few hours later it was sparkling. Ditto the white blouse she apparently wore to murder everyone. They must have an excellent dry cleaning service in Plythythytlllthyrlthyl.

yrhengi · 08/02/2018 11:25

And how come PC Graves (HA!!!) didn't notice Matilda's bloody, earthy fingernails at the hospital afterwards?

Fwaggle · 08/02/2018 12:15

And how come she didn't manage to clean her finger nails, but she DID manage to mop up a large and blood spattered crime-scene AND get all the blood out of her nice cream blouse? This girl needs to give me laundry tips.

ToffeeUp · 08/02/2018 12:20

She was probably naked and unlike Harlan remembered where she had put her clothes Wink

Do we think her being a musician will be of any significance?

Taffeta · 08/02/2018 12:22

I only watched one ep and won’t watch the rest

This thread is fab Grin

PMSL @ cat fringe

Yy to Mrs Brittas - I shrieked that at screen and gave DH a seizure when she first appeared

MASSIVE ROFL @ discussing how to get blood out of coat - boil wash vs cold water - only on MN GrinGrinGrin

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/02/2018 12:29

Have we heard if there's going to be another series? I mean, things seemed wrapped up but Matilda could always keep digging (perhaps not literally) and find more mysteries that need solving.

yrhengi · 08/02/2018 12:50

I knew Tara Fitzgerald was a wrong ‘un as soon as she popped up with her antiques business and her dangly necklaces. Satanists always turn out to be the most middleclass characters in any dark drama set up. It’s almost as if you can only summon the dark lord if you have an arts degree from a RG uni and a juice press.

DarthNigel · 08/02/2018 14:22

I fell in love with that black and white jacket she had on. I wonder where it was from, gosh I'd like one like it!
I thought the male nurse offed the aunt, because he was well shady and touchy...but then he wasn't involved in the devil bits seemingly at all?

Inkanta · 08/02/2018 14:32

'I fell in love with that black and white jacket'

I also loved her baby blue coat - and she managed to keep it clean for a long while. Then she got blood on it, but wore it again later - all clean!

KermitTheFrog01 · 08/02/2018 15:50

I kept expecting the "thin ones" to turn into Cybermen and David Tennant to appear in his police box to sort it all out by reversing the polarity with his sonic screwdriver.

Seriously, the plot could have come straight out of Dr Who.

After a great start, the end was so disappointing. Yet another obvious lead in to an unnecessary Season 2.

britot1 · 09/02/2018 09:05

Once I had got past the fringe ( just half an inch longer..please!), the dead sheep ( did no one ever question the pub landlord - Mr Roast Lamb!) and the distinct lack of police officers (government cutbacks?), I actually quite enjoyed the series - in a Scooby Doo kind of way. I found myself thinking “What would Jeremy Kyle say?” He’d say get a DNA test love, and we can sort this whole thing out with less drama, and a bit of counselling for the whole Satanic worship thing. Am sure there must be a support group for that? Only question not answered......if the elec kept kicking out, then where did Matilda/Cerys/Archangel plug in her straighteners.....eh?
