I certainly am

I don't think it's a good as it was when it first started, and it can be a tad predictable at times but I still love this show

Stripy it was really obvious in her first scene and then it popped up in certain words!!

CurbsideProphet · 11/02/2018 22:25

I agree that they gave up on hiding Helen George's bump as though we wouldn't notice Hmm IMHO it felt like they just rushed through the "Trixie's fallen off the wagon / dentist's daughter in emotional crisis" storyline without proper thought or planning, which is rather lazy.

I also noticed the interesting accent of the factory owner's wife!

SoupDragon · 11/02/2018 23:23

I assumed the varying accent was because she learned English in the north.

It’s difficult to comment on the second marriage really as it would have been normal for them. I think she had been dreading it happening for a long time so it wasn’t totally unexpected. It’s an interesting scenario though with it all being against UK law. Have laws of consent been tightened up because I don’t think the 15 year old bride would be so accepted now.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2018 23:26

What I found interesting about the Not Hidden Bump is that, if you weren’t looking for it, you could still not notice it. The opening shot had a great camera angle an the handle bars and her arm broke up the lines and disguised it (although knowing it was there it was easy to spot really). She did look huge on top when they were at the table discussing what they were going to do that evening though.

Housewife2010 · 11/02/2018 23:57

Who would the husband have shared his bed with?Would the second wife have slotted into the role of teenage daughter/handmaid?

Peskyelephant · 12/02/2018 00:11

The bump seemed to go up and down tonight. When she was wearing her uniform it didn't seem that big. But it was massive in all the other scenes.

BertieBotts · 12/02/2018 00:21

They don't always film episodes in one block, sometimes they'll film different bits of different episodes in a completely different order.

MissMoneyPlant · 12/02/2018 02:22

Just finished watching this. The sewing machine injury scene - wtf?! How on earth could she injure herself so badly it require a huge bandage, painkillers, and Dr. Turner gravely saying "I think you'll make a full recovery"..?

BikeRunSki · 12/02/2018 07:26

Re: sewing machine injury. My dad had scars and no feeling in one of his fingers, from running over it with a sewing machine.

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 12/02/2018 08:52

Just watching now. Trixie couldn't look much more pregnant in that red and white stripey top/dress could she!

ReelingLush18 · 12/02/2018 08:59

Sister Monica Joan is still my favourite character. Loved the scenes involving her and Fred yesterday. He's a real 'brick', isn't he?

MrsJayy · 12/02/2018 09:11

Again re -sewing machine injury my mum worked in a textile (sp) factory she has nerve damage from a sewing machine injury. Helen George looked relieved when Sister J gave her 6 months maternity leave shelooked done in Grin

I am not sure what to think about last nights 15yrold child bride 2nd wife scenario which would have still been illegal in 19963 yet again the nuns ignore the obvious Confused

SoupDragon · 12/02/2018 09:13

Dr T ignored it too. In fact he specifically said it was none of his business.

SoupDragon · 12/02/2018 09:14

15yrold child bride 2nd wife scenario which would have still been illegal in 19963

It was not illegal in Pakistan where it all happened though. The husband has done nothing illegal whilst in the uk.

MrsJayy · 12/02/2018 09:18

True soupdragon but the marraige was still not recognised and she was 15 and yy Dr Turner not my bussiness.

GnotherGnu · 12/02/2018 09:20

I never really understand why the nurses have to share bedrooms at Nonnatus. What happened to the rooms that Chummy and her husband, and Patsy's partner, had?

ReelingLush18 · 12/02/2018 09:31

Chummy and her husband didn't have a room at Nonnatus House, did they? Surely not??? They lived in one of the local terraces, didn't they?

MrsJayy · 12/02/2018 09:36

Yes chummy and urm husband lived in a terraced house.

SoupDragon · 12/02/2018 09:37

Realistically, what would have happened though? She was with family (her cousin) and safe. If another pregnancy occurred in the UK before she was past the age of consent, I guess it would be different.

It’s a tricky one as they’ve not actually done anything wrong in the UK. It’s certainly a “raised eyebrows and gossip” scenario though and would have done nothing to help them integrate into the neighbourhood - I think that wold be the same even now. Probably worse with the girl being underage. I think it was an interesting story.

MrsJayy · 12/02/2018 09:39

PETER Chummy husband was Peter

Toddlerteaplease · 12/02/2018 09:51

They did have a room originally at Nonnatus house.

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 12/02/2018 10:11

I vaguely remember them trying to sleep in a single bed there?

ChevalierTialys · 12/02/2018 11:00

Hi all, I've only just noticed this thread!!

Is the actress who plays Trixie pregnant?

BikeRunSki · 12/02/2018 11:45

Yes Chevalier
Well, not anymore. She had a daughter in the autumn.

WinterHoliday · 12/02/2018 12:11

I thought last night's episode was an improvement on the previous week's.

Peter and Chummy briefly stayed at Nonnatus House for some reason. I forget why now, but it was only a temporary thing and then they went back to their terraced house.
