I certainly am

I don't think it's a good as it was when it first started, and it can be a tad predictable at times but I still love this show

Expect HIM that should say

BrutusMcDogface · 04/02/2018 21:46

Trixie didn't look pregnant tonight! At one point she was all covered up by her cape thing but then she put her hand on her hip and her tummy looked flat! Clever camera angle? 🤔

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 04/02/2018 21:49

I found tonight's episode a little bit Hmm I thought trixie/dentist/daughter story line was ludicrous and very offensive to parents who are divorced! Even then surely trixie could understand that it's more damaging for a child to live with parents that don't love each other?! If he is divorced he could hardly just wander back in ffs.

I thought it would be v v unlikely that nuns would rock up to a beauty pageant! ! And even more unlikely that they would be so forgiving of a pregnant Hungarian stealing meds from them to abort a baby on their land!!!

That said I thought the Huntington story line was cleverly done, heartbreaking as it was. I also felt it would be sadly unlikely that Wendy's children's home would be all sunshine and laughter but nice I suppose they tried to put a positive spin on it.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 04/02/2018 21:54

And yes I would want nurse crane as well! Or the new nurse Lucille seems lovely...

callmeadoctor · 04/02/2018 21:55

I don't understand why Magda was going to doctors for contraception though. She wasn't in a relationship (and she had no idea that she was pregnant so it wasn't an excuse)

callmeadoctor · 04/02/2018 21:56

I love the new nurse, she could deliver my baby or nurse Crane Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 04/02/2018 22:04

Disappointing episode. I don't think this season has been as good as the last few. No way would the nuns have gone to a beauty pagent in the 60's. Poor Trixie never has much luck . Hope they get back together.

StripySocksAndDocs · 04/02/2018 22:05

Not sure why Magda couldn't train in London. Maybe because she felt she couldn't stay after stealing drugs and breaking the law?

It's awful. I'm in Ireland and thought when she was told there was no abortion unless there's grave danger to the mother that that is here (though the 'unmarried mother' stigma isn't the same).

BrutusMcDogface I don't think Trixie has a bump as such - she's more broadened around the middle. If that makes sense.

StripySocksAndDocs · 04/02/2018 22:09

Think the dentist/daughter story line is clumsy because of Trixie actress' pregnancy. The need to explain her upcoining absence needed a rewrite.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 04/02/2018 22:19

Couldn't the storyline been the dentist turning into a bit of a cad? Or him deciding to go back to his wife, that would have been slightly more believable at least!

Clawdy · 04/02/2018 22:20

I missed the ending, did Magda's abortion attempt work? And why is she leaving?

Dancergirl · 04/02/2018 22:23

I feel so sorry for Trixie, more heartbreak and now she’s starting drinking again Sad

StripySocksAndDocs · 04/02/2018 22:25

It worked Clawdy and she's going to Paris to train as a nurse.

Maybe Girliefriendlikesflowers but that might take too long. Plus I suppose the daughters sudden rejection of her give a more instant reason to turn to drink.

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 04/02/2018 22:27

CTM made me cry yet again. Sobbing at Trixie at the end :( few random tears for babies and general upset, but that was The Line for me for that episode.

Will catch up on the thread in the morning, on my phone atm

Clawdy · 04/02/2018 22:31

Ah, thanks, Stripysocks

yaela123 · 04/02/2018 22:46

Surely the nuns wouldn't be at the beauty pageant!

And how does Dr Turner (or the midwives for that fact) have time to be acting as doctor and social worker and popping up wherever all the time? Since he seems to be the only one in poplar - doesnt he have other patients to see, not spending his whole time acting as a social worker for the huntingtons family? That story was so sad though.

BertieBotts · 04/02/2018 22:59

I was surprised that the hospital didn't report her - I thought she'd get prosecuted :( That might have been why she had to leave sharpish though.

I think the teal thing is an Artistic Choice they're going for - presumably to signify a new decade and give the whole thing a retro feel without going full on sepia.

I thought tonight was a bit more sympathetic to the time - by modern standards, children going off to live in institutions and divorced parents getting back together for the mental health of the children seem utterly ludicrous but I think it probably would have made logical sense then?

I did notice the girl standing staring at the wall in the residential home, at first I thought she was playing Grandmothers' Footsteps with the other girls but Trixie stopped and looked sadly at her, while she'd chivvied Wendy along past, so I think we were supposed to notice.

Perhaps Magda was hoping that contraception would prevent a pregnancy from implanting? Was the coil available then?

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 04/02/2018 23:09

I think Magda was just sexually active, which was presumably how she got pregnant in the first place.

MrsJamin · 05/02/2018 10:27

Why do they have to write such a sad way for Trixie to exit the show to have a baby? Couldn't they have written it so she got married and had to move city or something? When she picked up the alcohol I was shouting "no Trixie don't!" at the telly. And the huntingdon's storyline was just bleak - no hope at all :(
I'm not sure how much longer they should be doing this if this is the quality coming through.

EngagedWithALeaf · 05/02/2018 11:03

Can everyone please note that upthread on 22 January I said Trixie would “fall off the wagon and start drinking again... and then maybe go to “get help” for a while when HG has the baby?!” I totally called it! Grin

WindyWednesday · 05/02/2018 11:13

Once you see HG pregnancy bump you can’t stop looking for it. Boxes stacked on the counter, trixie hiding behind a curtain, slumped over the dining table, cards wrapped around the bump. Head shots only.

I’m sad that this is the way they are going to explain the absence of HG. I don’t think trixie would have fallen off the wagon for the dentist. She seemed so much deeper in love with scaucy vicar.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2018 11:15

There were some great Bump Hides this week. I particularly liked the exercise class one where she was wearing a coat and standing behind a box which she then carried in front of her bump as she walked away. Usually she’s in a leotard for keep fit scenes :)

SoupDragon · 05/02/2018 11:15

Oh, and sitting on the bed with a pillow over it whilst she painted her nails!

Pebble21uk · 05/02/2018 11:28

My fave Trixie bump hide this week was in the medical room at Nonnatus. The way the shot was filmed from the end of the bench with the 3 midwives packing their bags, there was a ruddy great anglepoise lamp in centre shot in the foreground which obliterated her from the chest down.

You could almost turn it into a drinking game if it wasn't so wildly inappropriate for her character!!! (No offence intended)

Helenluvsrob · 05/02/2018 11:43

umm how long has Magda been at the turners.... whos baby was it.... Timothy ??

I assume the swift exit was so we didn't have to have a prolonged it's illegal/Dr Turner legal thing for leaving drugs about type story line .
