I certainly am

I don't think it's a good as it was when it first started, and it can be a tad predictable at times but I still love this show

Trixie normally would have been up for the beauty pageant. But suddenly she’s turned into a old woman for no apparent reason, would have made sense if she was still with the vicar. Don’t know what the morals of dentists are.

WindyWednesday · 05/02/2018 11:49

I think the father of magdas baby was “the French boyfriend”

Why would she suddenly want to be a nurse all rather random, surely stealing medicine to perform your own abortion would mean you were a risky candidate.

CannotEvenThink · 05/02/2018 12:27

watched it this morning as was at work yesterday. Glad they touched on people escaping the iron curtain. Felt for Magda but it did get a bit contrived and odd with the drug stealing and immediate forgiveness. Her conversations with Valerie though helped show how things were changing for women.

Yes to Trixie and the pageant. And while obviously it was difficult with HG being pregnant it has affected the character who has ended up changing. I'm sorry to see her falling off the wagon, it is a shame the way the show has gone from the primary focus being the people of poplar with the nurses and nuns circling around them to nurses and their stories taking centre stage.

Trixie was so strong, why couldn't she go back to Africa for a few months at the clinic or something to cover for it? She came back from there seemingly poised to be a trailblazing female doctor and now she's crushed again.

However, it is her projecting onto the daughter isn't it. Going on about how she will become someone who runs away rather than let people in and open up to potential hurt and Trixie is doing exactly that. Not exactly subtle. I suspect the dentist will be back. Annoyingly. I don't like him.

MrsJayy · 05/02/2018 12:31

Just joining in because I have a question but firstly the actress who played trixie is pregnant so probably the oo im a spoken for lady was the best story, anyway can somebody remind me what happened to Sister Mary cynthia I know she was in the phsyciatric hospital but wasn't she discharged?

MrsJayy · 05/02/2018 12:34

AHH you all know Helen George was pregnant Blush

SoupDragon · 05/02/2018 12:39

I asked that about Sister Mary Cynthia - apparently she is at the Mother House.

I would have liked to see them Bump Hide Trixie in the beauty pageant! :o

SadieHH · 05/02/2018 12:39

The psychiatric hospital didn’t work for Sr Mary Cynthia so she was sent to Northfield where Dr Turner had previously been treated for PTSD. She’ll remain there for evermore presumably!

SadieHH · 05/02/2018 12:40

(I was ShelaghTurner btw)

MrsJayy · 05/02/2018 12:46

Thank you shelagh sadie I should have read the thread before jumping in. We were watching last night and dd asked what happened to SMC we couldn't remember.

SadieHH · 05/02/2018 12:58

This is the bit where I confess that I haven’t watched it at all this year. I have no clue what’s happening generally!

maddiemookins16mum · 05/02/2018 13:17

I was watching last night with my friend who was here for dinner and when the fabulous Nurse Crane delivered the baby we just looked at each other and said 'I'd have wanted her as mine'.

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 05/02/2018 13:35

I feel rather as if the world has slipped off its axis, Sadie Shelagh.

SadieHH · 05/02/2018 14:34

You want to know why? Sit down now because it might be a shock.

I got pissed off with Stephen McGann!

What can I say? I’m fickle. Write him out I say!

Dancergirl · 05/02/2018 14:34

maddie I said the same to my dd!

CannotEvenThink · 05/02/2018 14:57

I am incredibly shocked

MrsJayy · 05/02/2018 15:03

You got pissed of with Steven Mcgann why what did Steven do?

MrsJayy · 05/02/2018 15:03

Write him out Shock

Clawdy · 05/02/2018 15:21

Sadie I think you are an imposter, ShelaghTurner would have loved him to the end of the series!

CurbsideProphet · 05/02/2018 15:37

Tbf Sadie / Shelagh he is incredibly annoying!

I agree CannotEvenThink I think Trixie going back to help at the hospital in Africa (apologies can't remember where exactly!), or going off to increase her skills would have been a better storyline for the character. This sudden announcement that the dentist's daughter hates Trixie blah blah blah is just lazy writing.

LascellesMoustache · 05/02/2018 15:59

To all those who said nurse Crane as their preferred midwife at their labour, I can see what you mean. You'd feel like she'd be good in any situation. I'd also like the new one from the west indies but she's only newly qualified so that would put me off.

Does anyone still think Trixie will get pregnant in this series? I thought she might but since this last episode I'm not so sure and thinking she might just have a alcoholic storyline instead

TBH I was a bit confused at how Magda was surprised she couldn't get a legal abortion but also had read about illegal abortionists? Surely it would be one or the other.

HeyRoly · 05/02/2018 17:32

I also thought Magda did well to remember the drugs in the convent fridge before she realised she needed them.

And surely if it was that easy to rob controlled drugs (or anything, for that matter) from Nonnatus House, there would be reams of local scumbags robbing them blind every week?

BertieBotts · 05/02/2018 17:55

Well, I doubt they have opioids etc lying around - they only just seem to have got gas and air, for anything else they send them to the hospital.

StripySocksAndDocs · 05/02/2018 18:08

People didn't steal drugs in the 60s. It's a modern day behaviour.

True story.
