Slightly copying the old thread's title...

Come on Corrie writers! Get a grip! This is the thread to moan about the utter tosh that we end up watching, or in some cases to praise the actors because some of them are actually pretty good! Let's discuss!

OP posts:

Welcome told

In soap timescales the operation should be happening next week then ;)

HettySunshine · 04/02/2018 07:05

I actually quite like the Daniel/Carla storyline. I thought Daniel was quite sexy and confident in the scenes in his flat and as I'm nearly Carla's age (sob) I can sort of see why she would go for it. It won't end well though!

Imchangingmyname · 04/02/2018 07:19

Anyone else think Corrie is getting better? Think it's a combination of writing and the characters, they seem to be getting that balance of the humour/drama back.

I think they're dragging out the Phelan storyline because its basically bringing viewers back. He's a fantastic actor isn't he, I almost wish he could stay but obviously he can't redeem himself after killing off half the street.

I liked Daniel and Carla together, I thought there was chemistry between them when they first met in the bistro. Peter's reaction seemed realistic for him.

Can't work out what Aidan's secret might be. He's clearly got something major on his mind.

I liked the last few episodes too.

JustDanceAddict · 04/02/2018 10:00

I think viewers are just waiting for Phelan to get his comeuppance- so either turning off til they hear ‘on the grapevine’ it’s happening, or half-heartedly watching (me). I actually can’t bear it when he’s on, so the sooner he goes the better.

JediStoleMyBike · 04/02/2018 10:02

I like Carla for Daniel far more than Sinead. Sinead I can't help but hate.

Also, Bethany 🙄

thenightsky · 04/02/2018 10:35

I like Daniel and Carla together too. Mind you, I thought Peter and Carla were a good match... much better than Peter and Toyah.

millimat · 04/02/2018 11:36

I feel sorry for zeedan. If only I were 20 years younger...

deadringer · 04/02/2018 11:55

It was nice to see some 'normal' drama, ie Amy sneaking off to a party and being a little out of her depth and her parents looking for her. I am really liking Tracy these days, she is still nasty enough to make snide comments but she is more mainstream now which is welcome imo.

SymphonyofShadows · 04/02/2018 12:01

Yes, I like Tracy more now too. Peter and Carla had such chemistry but Peter and Toyah are dreadful together. I still can't stand Michelle or Robert. I'd like to see Leanne back in the Bistro with Zee, perhaps Phelan could off M&R before he goes?

Imchangingmyname · 04/02/2018 13:15

smeaton I have to disagree on Connor MacIntyre (sp?), I think he's a fantastic actor. If you look at some of the other actors on the show, the likes of fizz, Sean, Kym Marsh's character to an extent, it's like you can tell they are reading words from a script. Very one dimensional. I totally believe the Phelan character and it's actually hard to be so subtle and believable to camera. He's excellent imo.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 04/02/2018 13:27

I really liked Carla and Daniel as friends. I could see him becoming a real suport for her, like Roy. Not sure if that can happen now.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 04/02/2018 13:29

Yes I’m also enjoying Tracey and Steve together, and Tracy Jr playing them for fools Grin

zizza · 04/02/2018 14:49

Interesting seeing different views isn't it... I don't like his acting at all - he just seems to be very one-dimensional, acting the same way all the time. The sooner he's gone the better as far as I'm concerned, I just don't like watching him, let alone the rediculous storylines there have been around him.

GlacindaTheTroll · 04/02/2018 14:55

"Anyone else think Corrie is getting better?"

No, not me.

I love the Classic Corrie they have on ITV3, though and am mildly diverted by the counterpoint to this bilge (and no, I don't rate the Phelan actor in this part, though to be fair that could be a reflection of the cardboard crap he's been handed) which means I post here too.

And if I had to choose to watch only 80s reruns, or 2018, it would be 1980s every time

Smeaton it makes sense to me!
Glacinda, I agree classic Corrie all the way. I have it on series link, really enjoying it. I don't watch current Corrie much (only when my adult daughter visits) it's Phelan that puts me off. Too much nastiness all round.

toldmywrath · 04/02/2018 16:12

When watching on Friday I asked my DD if Aidan was in serious money trouble ( when he grabbed the mail from the postie) it's difficult for me to pick up on everything.

EdithWeston · 04/02/2018 16:15

The character/actor who struck me as most different between Corrie and RL was John Savident as Fred Elliott.

We won't get him on Classic for a while yet, though.

I didn't think that the postmen/women are supposed to hand over mail .in the street.

Redglitter · 04/02/2018 18:43

I think technically they're not but I think a lot do if they know you. Postman at my last house frequently used to give me my mail in the car park if I was heading out and he was in the street

lizzieoak · 04/02/2018 18:57

Speaking of Fred, I say, speaking of Fred, I found this clip and thought how different the rhythm was. A distinct lack of shrieking in these scenes. At what point was it decided that shrieking signals working class Northern women?

I miss this Corrie.

smeaton I haven't seen him interviewed, will check it out. The fact he's conveying something to us off screen is what I think he's great at, there was a scene a couple of weeks back, you could see the worry, then the relief, all through his eyes and very, very subtle. Guess we all see things differently, Roy and Sam are very stylised, so not difficult to be different off screen..similar to Jean Alexander who played Hilda Ogden. Phelan is a psychopath presenting as a normal person so an interview wouldn't necessarily show a massive difference (though one would hope he is a much nicer person Grin)
