Anyone else looking forward to this? The writer also wrote the recent Robbie Coltrane drama, National Treasure, and Sarah Lancashire is always superb.

I agree with most of that, gabsdot, but I can't get my head around the idea that the fm could have done it and then behave as she is doing now straight afterwards. It would take one hell of a lot of clever writing to convince me her character could so effectively disassociate itself from her earlier actions. I can see her justifying in her own mind that it is everyone else's fault that she did it, but not the calm lies and cover ups involved in advertising her story on national TV. Even if telling herself she has to lie, or she'll be taken away from her ds and ruin his life, I can't believe she would be able to maintain the facade in the way she did in episode 2.

Lanaorana2 · 24/01/2018 10:36

I'm thinking Shaun Matthews case re Steven Mackintosh - he's too good an actor to be a bit part, and that case was always prime drama material.

gabsdot · 24/01/2018 12:57

I read a Leanne Moriarty book where someone was accidentally strangled but because of an underlying health problem it took very little strangling to kill them. Perhaps this is the case here. Perhaps no on killed her. There hasn't been an inquest yet. Perhaps the scarf got caught on a tree branch and choked her.

BashStreetKid · 24/01/2018 14:36

What's the Shaun Matthews case? I can't find anything that looks relevant on Google.

gabsdot · 24/01/2018 15:03

Shannon Matthews????

roundaboutthetown · 24/01/2018 16:03

Maybe Kiri's nosebleeds are relevant if there is some underlying condition?

Cagliostro · 24/01/2018 17:52

Really struggled with the later part of this episode. If it’s the son (I agree it’s unlikely as they’ve hinted so early) it’ll be much too close to home for me, especially if the parents are covering for him.

Enjoying the acting though, it’s a good series and I’m definitley going to watch national treasure now.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 24/01/2018 18:01

I wonder if it's just a random stranger, then we will all be wrong footed as we could make a case for it being pretty much anyone of her foster or birth family.

HouseOfMouse · 24/01/2018 18:57

I think whatever the reason for Kiri's death turns out to be, Miriam will end up being thrown to the wolves. She's just given them too much ammo in terms of her general approach, chaotic lifestyle, drinking etc. (regardless of whether any of this actually contributed to her judgement in this case). You can just imagine how the press would treat her if this were a real case. That (i.e. treatment of social workers - in many ways a no-win, thankless job) may turn out to be the real story here.

outcrops · 24/01/2018 21:08

I think it was the other younger social worker. She’s in love/jealous of Miriam

winchesterfan · 24/01/2018 21:12

Well that's confirmed the FM was following them to the grandparents house

MollyHopps · 24/01/2018 21:14

outcrops I have had my suspicions about her from the start.

Always too quick to rush to Miriam when she comes in, calls her when she is assaulted, just happens to let slip about the drinking, the comment about Miriam fancying her..

It's too suspicious for her not to be involved to some extent!

Lanaorana2 · 24/01/2018 21:19

Sion Jenkins murder of Billie-Jo = that's the case I'm thinking of.

Sion J was an upstanding citizen/deputy headmaster who was done for bludgeoning his foster DD, Billie-Jo (age 13) to death with a metal tent spike in 1998. Judgment was overturned on appeal, ie he got out of prison several years later, by which time the wife had divorced him.

alwayslearning789 · 24/01/2018 21:20

Or perhaps she wants to cover up for the son?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 24/01/2018 21:21

So was foster Mum a teacher? And then stopped? Presumably to foster kiri? But then the principal said she was in recovery. From what?

Lottapianos · 24/01/2018 21:22

Wow, mum's fancy man is HOT!

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 24/01/2018 21:25

Urgh what is this creepy little scrote doing???

frostedfields · 24/01/2018 21:26

Wtf was all that in the bathroom Confused

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 24/01/2018 21:28

I’ve always disliked the nickname “si” and this show is making me see red every time I hear it Grin

StripySocksAndDocs · 24/01/2018 21:28

Ok. Weird.

blueskyinmarch · 24/01/2018 21:28

This all just gets weirder. What on earth is Si all about?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 24/01/2018 21:29

Question, is FM extremely flat chested or has she had a double mastectomy?

MollyHopps · 24/01/2018 21:29

I have no idea where this is going now Confused

StripySocksAndDocs · 24/01/2018 21:29

Really nice house though. I need to become part of a fictional tv family.

PhilomenaCunksBuggy · 24/01/2018 21:31

It's definitely getting weird! As the first one was from the social worker's perspective, and the second from the birth family's view, maybe this one is from Simon?
