Was it Omagh? I just wondered because that was in the summer holidays.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 08/02/2018 22:48

I’ve really enjoyed this series. Convent school girl of the 90’s, tonight’s episode really funny and the ending was particularly moving. It can’t have been Omagh bombing because that was a Saturday afternoon and there were way more casualties, sorry to be a pedant. I think they were just illustrating how life carried on with “the troubles” in the background. Made me cry though

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 08/02/2018 22:49

Oh yes it can’t have been Omagh then can it? The report said 12 people dead. Any ideas what that was. Omagh was the first thing that came to mind for me.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 08/02/2018 22:51

This episode just didn’t hit the spot for me. (Even before the ending)

CandyYumYum · 08/02/2018 22:52

I think the footage was of Omagh but it was probably being used as a general reference to the violence rather than Omagh specifically.

Freshlysteamedfanjo · 08/02/2018 22:52

It’s set in 1993 so definitely too early for Omagh (1998?). Shankill and Warrington bombs were that year though.

Mumguiltisabitch · 08/02/2018 22:53

In bits here. Was a 16 year old girl from Omagh in 1998 out at a local disco the night before the bomb. It was on a Saturday not a school day but i guess they changed some details. The news wasn't 29 immediately. It was 2 5 12.....and on and on it went .

VioletBow · 08/02/2018 22:53

Not Omagh as that was in the middle of August, will never forget that day, was visiting family in Enniskillen and due to drive up to Derry that evening.

Iggity · 08/02/2018 22:53

I think it was supposed to be Omagh but it happened on a Saturday afternoon in August. Perhaps 12 was the first number of fatalities reported.

VioletBow · 08/02/2018 22:54

Apparently it wasn't based on any particular incident just the bombings of the scale of Omagh ect

Mumguiltisabitch · 08/02/2018 22:54

Agree with pp it don't think it was specific. Dont think it was even omagh footage. Loved the ending.

Nyancat · 08/02/2018 22:55

The ending was so poignant and really struck a chord. I was at school in Belfast in the 90s and we were all just like the girls wrapped up in our teenage worlds and going out with friends and feeling as invincible as teenagers do while our parents watched the news and worried about us.

CandyYumYum · 08/02/2018 22:57

The nun is the star of it all as far as I'm concerned.

Mumguiltisabitch · 08/02/2018 22:57

Jesus I'm shaking after it did not expect it to have that effect on me :/

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 08/02/2018 22:59

Ahh thanks violet

mamaiFifi · 08/02/2018 23:00

Yep awful times luckily our kids won't live through it. Bombs from both end of divides and collusion from the state, thankfully there is no violence anymore!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 08/02/2018 23:03

Oh that caught me by surprise. Having a bit of a sniffle here. Brilliant series.

riledandharrassed · 08/02/2018 23:10

Loved it ! For any non UK people you can watch it through a VPN - just download Tunnel Bear ( google it !! ) xx

slippermaiden · 08/02/2018 23:11

It reminds me of a friend I did my nurse training with in London! I love it. Main actress is bad though, all the others are really good!

shoofly · 08/02/2018 23:11

Leaky eyes here too. Fabulous series.

Cleebope2 · 08/02/2018 23:12

Have completely fallen in love with this series like no other. Each episode has made me feel really emotional in a different way, very nostalgic. I actually cried at the end, with the baby stroking the mum's face, the granda placing his hand on the son in law's shoulder, the girls and the wee English fella acting like dicks on stage and enjoying their angst ridden youth, beautiful writing. Just love it. Can't wait for season two.

CandyYumYum · 08/02/2018 23:12

I loved Clive the wee prod from East Belfast.

Cleebope2 · 08/02/2018 23:15

Yes They should bring him back, maybe the girls could go on a day trip to Belfast and bump into him again and Michelle could lose the rest of her virginity

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 08/02/2018 23:15

Main actress is bad though, all the others are really good!

Agree. Unfortunately she is unlikeable and spoils any scenes she is in for me.
