Anyone watched it? Well acted and gripping, James Norton good as usual. Also nice change to see so many new faces. But I'm not sure about watching seven more episodes........

And was it Alex who paid for the hit on Vadim or was he transferring money for something else? If it was him, why the hell would he still go to Moscow?

So many questions!

Vadims daughter has been on borrowed time for a while though I thought.

BerylStreep · 04/02/2018 23:09

Vadim's daughter's hair was too bouncy and shiny. It was obvious giveaway she was going to die.

So who organised the hit on Vadim? I think it was Dmitri when he phoned his contact and said 'I'll pay whatever the cost it takes to protect my son'.

DH thinks it was the Russian government who did the hit.

MissEliza · 04/02/2018 23:21

Who was Alex transferring 25000 Euros to? Surely he wouldn know anyone in Moscow to organise a hit

thenightsky · 04/02/2018 23:32

I'm pretty sure it was Papa who arranged the hit on Vadim's daughter. Alex doesn't know about it. If he did, he wouldn't be going to Russia.

MajesticWhine · 04/02/2018 23:57

Yea agree it must have been papa the big plonker.
On more important matters, Why does Alex have to always wear the same white shirt? He had about a dozen of them lined up in his wardrobe. You would have thought Rebecca might have dragged him into TM Lewin at some point to get a few different coloured ones.

octonaught · 05/02/2018 01:37

Natasha's murder was semaphored from about episode 2
Its a bit like the Godfather when the Sofia Coppola character was shot

i think the ending will be Vadim about to kill Alex, then Drunken Dmitiri coming to Moscow to save his son; killing Vadim & then dying in the process.
(He has said too many times this episode "It is my job to protect this family")

Then Rebecca will go off with the Mexican guy, Antonio, not realising he is a gangster too

Sandsnake · 05/02/2018 08:40

I really enjoyed that. I agree with Octo that Dimitri may well save Alex, likely dying in the process. He’s spent the entire series searching for a purpose, and this is what it could be. Who organised the hit is a mystery, and is probably quite central to how it all plays out. Thinking the following is possible:

  • Alex, after learning about the baby and purely for revenge. He may have a plan for Moscow, or simply be past caring. This would take him beyond redemption, as Natasha seemed innocent.
  • Someone trying to kill Vadim, as a result of what Dimitri said. And getting it very wrong. Hence Dimitri knowing quickly and his panic that Alex was going to Moscow.
  • Kleinmann (who is a snake), possibly as a way of framing Alex.
  • Antonio, but framing Alex. Either because a) the baby was his and he wants revenge or b) he has fallen in love with Rebecca and wants Alex out of the way.

The whole theme is very much the strength of family ties, which is coming to the fore even more as we head to the climax. Interested to see how it plays out, I certainly don’t see happy endings all round!

It would be so cool if the mother got something meaty to do in the last episode. Maybe take over the family's gang. She is a tough cookie and there must be ore to her than shopping.

The actress who plays her is brilliant. All the overseas actors speaking in their authentic languages just adds a completely different dimension to it.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2018 10:06

So who organised the hit on Vadim? I think it was Dmitri when he phoned his contact and said 'I'll pay whatever the cost it takes to protect my son'.

That’s a good call. The subsequent phone call would have been someone saying the hit had gone wrong hence the panicked call to Alex to tell him to to go. There was no need to stop him beforehand as Vadim was meant to be dead.

I think it was Dmitri or Alex. If Alex, I wonder if the target was the daughter all along in revenge for the baby.

It hadn't occurred to me that Natasha may have been the target. I thought it was Vadim.

'Wet Rebecca'. Exactly.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 05/02/2018 12:09

Is it awful I laughed my head off when the embassy guy jokingly told JN not to drink the tea? BlushGrin

It was really good! I think the hit was Dimitri trying to take out Vadim, that make the most sense.

MsHarry · 05/02/2018 15:15

I think Vadim's daughter was caught quite literally in the crossfire. I think Dimitri ordered Vadim dead. I though Vadim was going soft until Alex and Dimitri translated that saying about 'Vitamin(???) seeing you in Moscow' meaning you are a dead man walking.

MsHarry · 05/02/2018 15:16

Not Vitamin, Viamin or something!

AlbertaSimmons · 05/02/2018 16:00

I think Alex organised the hit and Natasha was the intended target -the assassin was very clearly checking which girl was Natasha before he pulled the trigger. I think he did it to send a very strong message to Vadim that he won't be messed with. It's his response to Vadim's threat to kill Dmitri - overkill. Loved the homage to the Godfather III with the girl dying on the steps - the Vadim actor has basically been playing Al Pacino playing Michael Corleone throughout.

I think Dmitri tried to phone Alex because he doesn't know that it is Alex who is behind it - the call was from someone in Moscow who had his ear to the ground. Dmitri's past it IMO.

I'm interested to see how the dirty double-crossing Kliemann gets his just desserts. Wet Rebecca will end up with tiny Antonio, agree she should have been taken out in the hit.

McTufty · 05/02/2018 16:09

If it was Alex, I think it is more likely revenge for the baby than to show he won’t be messed with - killing that girl is effectively suicide and would be counter productive in terms of sending a message. Whereas he might be just so mad about his baby that he threw caution to the wind and lashed out.

octonaught · 05/02/2018 16:40

Just rewatched the last 15mins on iPlayer. Alex sent the money to himself; probably bribes for Moscow trip. Dmitri’s reaction to the phone call, was more “ yes what is it” not “is it done?”. I think he wants his contacts in Moscow to keep an eye on Alex, not order a hit on Vadim.

I think the target was Vadim; not Natasha.

I reckon it may have been Simeon Kleinman getting revenge for losing so many assets in the deal in Istanbul.

Or a bit left field, it could be yusul, Vadim’s best friend. He wants money; remember him saying the only money in his account is that paid by his bosses, the state.

There’s got to be a big plot twist at the end!

MissEliza · 05/02/2018 17:10

Could Dimitri have ordered the hit on Vadim to protect Alex and then panicked when it was the daughter who was killed? Or was it creepy Kleinmann? He was too calm in those negotiations. I can't help feeling Vadim got what he deserved.
Funny about the female characters. Rebecca is supposed to be a highly educated professional woman but what a wet blanket. Alex's mum is the real strong woman in the show. She's a three dimensional character. She's devoted to her family but she's no subservient wife. I liked the scene in the art gallery. I don't who Rebecca is supposed to be. She behaves like an airhead.
I'll miss this series once it's finished. It took a while to warm up but the last few episodes have been great to watch.

Helipad · 05/02/2018 17:43

I reckon it was Kleinman behind the hit. The way he went to Vadim to say that what ever happens in the future, it's not because of him. And that Alex has other masters or something of that vein.

He has brilliantly played Vadim and Alex against each other.

I couldn't help but feel sorry for Vadim. Even though he is a ruthless gangster, there's something very compelling about him!

AlbertaSimmons · 05/02/2018 18:08

It was the same with Michael Corleone Helipad .

SoupDragon · 05/02/2018 18:12

the assassin was very clearly checking which girl was Natasha before he pulled the trigger.

That’s true, he did didn’t he?

Ickyockycocky · 05/02/2018 19:10

We binned this after three episodes. For me there was far too much graphic violence, I found the plot slow and torturous and finally James Norton's acting was awful.

Toyboysrus · 05/02/2018 19:53

I think Vadim's friend is suspicious, Man With Grey Bob Hair, sorry no good with names. If Ludmilla doesn't live happy ever after with Hot Bodyguard Man I will be very cross!

MissEliza · 05/02/2018 20:26

Man with grey bob hair GrinI think he's called Ilya.
