Anyone else excited by the start of the new 2017 series? I am! It's the law in our house to watch all these Christmas programmes - SCD, X Factor and Celeb.

I don't know who half the contestants are but I like Fizz (Corrie). And I can hardly bear to watch the high planks tonight...

I really feel for Iain. Amir is a prat: misogynistic, two faced, untrustworthy and a liar. Don't like Jamie either. Becky reminds me of the bully girls at school.

InfiniteSheldon · 03/12/2017 06:02

I feel like I am watching a different show! I like Becky she's strong and determined why aren't women allowed to be that? Amir us a big kid he's appealing and friendly not someone I'd want around but I can see that he is likeable. Kez is conniving. Iain deserves to be excluded after strawberry gate there was a crime, a punishment then forgiveness it's only Iain who has held on nursing his grievances, move on man everyone else has.

Roussette · 03/12/2017 07:51

I think it's because strong and determined can translate into mean and uncaring with a game plan... there's a very fine line between the two.

I cannot take to Becky at all, she reminds me of the mean girls at school, bitch resting face, unpleasant etc. I appreciate I am being very judgmental here.

Would anyone do me a very short precis of what went on last night, cant be bothered with catch up and I missed it!

Inkanta · 03/12/2017 07:51

Yes Infinite I concur with your observations there. I don't have any sympathy for Ian and his self pity.

AppleKatie · 03/12/2017 08:06

I liked Becky for being strong and determined.

But I went off her sharply when watching her do trials where she has to communicate with others. She was horrible to Shappi on their day out trial and horrible to Jamie when he was in the dark and she was meant to be guiding him. She's not got much empathy- in the true sense of the word, she doesn't understand other people's needs.

Hulababy · 03/12/2017 09:29

Apple Katie - presumably as they are a contestant down with Jack leaving earlier in the series.

derxa · 03/12/2017 09:44

Kezia is even worse than I thought. She needs to get oot!

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 03/12/2017 10:18

Iain struggles with his mental health and I can recognise the self deprecation comments and the awkward unfunny jokes, as I do similar stuff. It’s almost like a defence mechanism, beat your self up before anyone does it for you.

When he was trying to be a bit happier, Becky and Jamie were quick to call him out for game playing. He’s in a lose lose situation, I don’t think he’s managed to fit in since the beginning.

Becky’s ‘I say how it is’ really means, ‘I can say unkind things but as long as I say it to your face, it’s ok’.

It really isn’t. You can dislike someone but unless they do something to you, you can still manage to be civil, friendly and try to exercise some basic empathy.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 03/12/2017 10:31

I am waaaay behind just watching Thursday night's episode when Amir is slagging all the women off and talking about how his sister cooks for him. What a massive twat. How is he so popular?!

MyBeloved · 03/12/2017 10:40

This is exactly how I feel captain

AppleKatie · 03/12/2017 10:44

Ah hula you're right- id forgotten him already! Although I still think they could have just dropped the totally pointless double eviction instead!

CaretakerToNuns · 03/12/2017 10:51

Can't stand fucking Iain and his constant playing the victim - you're a straight white fucking male, for goodness sake, you have no idea what it's like to be a victim.

So many males like him (weak, socially awkward, etc) think they can mope around playing the victim when in reality they are anything but.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 03/12/2017 11:01

Hmm

It is quite possible for straight white men, as individuals, to be victims. I'm the last person to say 'not all men' but Iain has suffered from MH problems and belittling this because he's white is beyond problematic.

InfiniteSheldon · 03/12/2017 11:04

Well said Cherry

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 03/12/2017 11:04

Caretaketonuns He’s had quite notable mental health issues, just because he’s a straight white male doesn’t mean he can’t go through shit. I’ve had two male cousins in the past 3 years who have hung themselves, so I fucking hate attitudes like yours. Suicide is one of the biggest killers of men in this country.

I have also been suffering mental health issues since I was a teenager but because I guess because I’m a woman, that means I deserve more sympathy?

I can see and recognise some of the stuff Iain does because I have done it too, I’ve focused on something I’ve done wrong and punished myself for it for far too long. I’ve suffered with horrendous social anxiety and I’ve tried to do the ‘fake it till you make it shit’ as advised by a therapist, you tell awful jokes and miss social queues because you try to become social and act “normal”. Nowadays I recognise that I’m just odd and quiet, and there is nothing really wrong with that.

I want Iain to get voted out not because I dislike them but because I don’t think the jungle is the right place for him.

sagamartha · 03/12/2017 11:06

Mental health issues, depression, anxiety....they can strike anyone.

Coupled with the toxic masculinity on show from the others and attitudes from people like you and people wonder why there are issues.

areyoubeingserviced · 03/12/2017 11:42

I have disliked Jamie from day 1. He is not a decent bloke he is an idiot.
Amir is dim and very immature .
When Iain first entered the jungle , he came across as a bit of a prick and came in to ruffle a few feathers. This obviously upset a few of the camp mates who had already spent a few days together. Therefore, they are ‘loyal’ to Amir. This doesn’t excuse their bullying of Iain, it just explains it.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 03/12/2017 11:59

OK so I've caught up to Shappi's leaving interview. Not watched last nights yet.

I hope one of the macho posturing blokes go next. I'm sick to death of them bossing everyone around and jostling for attention. They get away with things that no one else would

TheweewitchRoz · 03/12/2017 11:59

I agree with Infinite re Becky - strong & determined female. I don't believe anyone would criticise her at all if she were male.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 03/12/2017 12:00

Yeah how come strong minded and knowing what you want is never criticised when it comes to males? Only females who get described as bitchy etc

MyBeloved · 03/12/2017 12:15

Nope. I would be criticising a male for bullying shappi too.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 03/12/2017 12:21

This is a very sexist year isn't it. Jenny wanted to do a trial but no "the blokes should do it, they're amazing men who'll do really well". Hmm

Roussette · 03/12/2017 12:48

I really like Ian, he's my kinda bloke. Funny, awkward, a bit sensitive etc. I hate this thing where men have to act like men. Just be who you are. Which brings me to Amir - he's a twat.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 03/12/2017 14:10

Sagemartha has hit the nail on the head with the toxic masculinity, Amir and Jamie seem to try and cultivate this masculine persona and if someone else can’t live up to it, they seem to dismiss them as weak. I also don’t think Jamie can have an original opinion.

Quartz2208 · 03/12/2017 14:12

Yep agree very sexist and then they were not actually that good in the sense they did not think it through (getting the keys at the bottom at the start)

I really wish you could vote for who you want to leave as I would be voting for Jamie all the way!
