I know it's early- but I've got a football packed morning with dd1. If it's not postponed. And I saw the song choices last night- so have been itching to share them. My bingo card has some crosses on it Grin.

Overs
Kevin Davy White
Fastlove Pt 1

Matt Linnen
Careless Whisper

Boys
Sam Black
I'm Your Man

Lloyd Macey
A Different Corner

Groups
The CutKelvins
Killer / Papa Was A Rollin' Stone

Jack & Joel
The Edge Of Heaven

Rak-Su
Faith

Sean & Conor
Freedom '90

Girls

Grace Davies
I Can't Make You Love Me

Holly Tandy
One More Try

Rai-Elle Williams
They Won't Go When I Go

Alisah Bonaobra
Praying For Time

I don't mind 'Edge of Heaven' too much for J and J- it could have been much worse.
Am very surprised at the choice for the Cutkelvins. At the beginning of the series, I thought they were one of the favourites, but Simon doesn't seem to be giving them much, and they are increasingly becoming the sister , with backing.

And BINGO! 'I can't make you love me' I can't stand that song- and it's Grace singing it- which means they really want her to win. it's such a favourite on these shows.

I think Rat Soup doing 'Faith' rather than Sam , means Sam is going home.

And hopefully, the title of Sobby's song is an omen Grin

There are rumours that the quadruple elimination won't happen now. Which is good in a way, as it would probably have left us with Grace and Rat Soup for the next 4 weeks .

So- I'm off to check if dd1's football has been postponed, and then i need to sort out snacks for later. Grin

Wasn't Rhydian (portrayed as) fairly arrogant with a high opinion of himself? Unless I'm remembering that wrong his personal was very different to Lloyd's and he was much more about belting out operatic power notes, whereas Lloyd is more understated.

Lloyd for me is a Josh Groban type.

sweetbitter · 13/11/2017 11:11

The80sweregreat · 13/11/2017 11:16

ah, thats right, Rhydian.
i remember now Sharon not being that keen on him.

Raahh · 13/11/2017 11:22

I think Rhydian was portrayed as quite cocky- but I don't think he was., really. He was very flamboyant. Quite scary stary eyes. Grin But the X Factor has a habit of taking acts and then 'creating' a role for them. His was to be the 'villain' I think .

He was way less disturbing than 'Same Difference' the perma- grinned siblings from the same year Grin

I LOVE Josh Groban. Which reminds me, it's nearly time to watch 'Polar Express' (Groban singing the theme song makes me cryBlush).

80 She was quite annoying that year. I've only really warmed to her this past couple of years really. She was always horrible during the Dannii Minogue years- mainly because she hated Dannii, and it showed.

OP posts:
sweetbitter · 13/11/2017 11:26

Oh yes, I don't put that much weight on people's personality actually being what the X factor portrays them as being! But they are definitely positioning Lloyd differently to Rhydian.

I kind of loved Same Difference Blush

Raahh · 13/11/2017 11:30

sweet in retrospect, they missed a trick with 'Same Difference', they were very Disney, and High School musical was big then. They could have been a big hit. , But Simon seemed to sabotage them at the end- I think he would have preferred Rhydian to win than Leon (who sank without a trace), he'd had success with opera groups before.

But I did find Same Difference a bit creepyGrin

JaneJeffer · 13/11/2017 11:44

I was with Sharon on the Dannii hate. She was a pain in the arse!

Same Difference were indeed creepy in a Karen and Richard Carpenter way.

Raahh · 13/11/2017 11:53

I kind of liked Dannii. She was way less irritating than Tulisa. We didn't deserve Tulisa. Grin

I'm one of the few people on earth who can't stand the Carpenters. I find Karen's voice just too ..something I can't put my finger on. But it annoys me.

There was a covers album released around '94-ish that was quite good though. I liked Sheryl Crow's version of 'Solitaire', and Shonen Knife's 'Top of the World'. Grin

Oh, blimey, that's my morning over. I'm now looking up tracks from The Carpenter's covers album Grin

I didn't mind Tulisa. I felt a bit sorry for her with that drug sting thing which seems to have done for her career. Then again, she was lucky to even have got the X factor gig in he first place, she was a very left field choice at the time.

JaneJeffer · 13/11/2017 12:13

I liked Tulisa and she could laugh at herself unlike Dannii and Cheryl. She had a tough upbringing because of her mother's mental health. I'm sad that she ruined her beautiful face though.

Raahh · 13/11/2017 12:40

Tulisa had that stupid 'Female Boss' tattoo, and every week, I wanted to chop off her arm Grin.

I missed Sunday's episode, I was forced to socialise with family Hmm Grin
will have to catch up.

MusicToMyEars800 · 13/11/2017 13:09

I've just read through... Did sobby go? Grin

Raahh · 13/11/2017 13:24

Music she did! Well, she was voted off. Whether they have managed to get her to leave , we are not sure about!Grin

MusicToMyEars800 · 13/11/2017 14:06

She is like the terminator... She will be back Grin
It wouldn't surprise me, she I like one of mad audience members that dashes onto the stage Grin

Raahh · 13/11/2017 14:16

music oh I can definitely see her crashing the final , singing 'It should have been me' or something Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 13/11/2017 15:04

I've just read something about how Grace is getting a lot of stick for singing a cover.

Now, I'm not a fan of Grace, but she wasn't the only one. So did Rai-elle and the Cutkelvins. At least the song she did is known for the George version. Whereas the Cutkelvins doing Killer etc was really a strange move. He might have covered it, but it is very much Seal's song.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 13/11/2017 15:14

Thats not fair at all - George did covers that were hits or on his albums - Grace didnt do anything different to any of the others( as Raahh said. _
I am not a fan of Grace, but that is really not on.
i need to watch the beginning of last nights one as was watching strictly and missed most of it, i came in as Rai - elle was doing her song.

sweetbitter · 13/11/2017 15:26

I don't believe for an instant any of the acts get to choose their song.

I think the best (ie worst) ever X factor theme was "Songs by Gwen Stefani and Artists Who Have Inspired Gwen Stefani".

Those were the days when they actually based the theme around an act who would actually come in and "do workshops" with the contestants then perform on the main show. So they obviously did well in getting Gwen Stefani in, then realised she didn't have a big enough back catalogue for the show's purpose...

The80sweregreat · 13/11/2017 15:34

sweet, they had some big names years ago singing with the finalists and doing 'workshops ' with them. Paul McCartney, George Michael. Buble, Rhianna, Beyonce ( not sure if she did or not, but she might have done) lady Gaga was a guest in a bath once! it went downhill a few years back.
one contestant had to sing with Ella Henderson who came 6th one year ( a good singer, but hardly in the same ranks as some of the others that did songs with them!) They might have to sing with Simon at this rate and he has often said he cant sing himself!

squoosh · 13/11/2017 16:30

I'm one of the few people on earth who can't stand the Carpenters. I find Karen's voice just too ..something I can't put my finger on. But it annoys me.

I quite like Karen’s velvety voice but I find the Carpenter’s songs utterly depressing. But not a good sort of depressing. I imagine it’s the kind of music an unhappy 1970s housewife living in some dull Californian suburb would have listened to as she popped valium and fantasised about next door’s gardener. I feel a bit suffocated whenever I hear the Carpenters.

Raahh · 13/11/2017 16:38

Squoosh that's a very good description.

I feel so sad whenever I think of Karen Carpenter. that's genuine sadness in her voice after all...
