Ok , I am going to work on my soufflés and attempt to deconstruct a crumble over the weekend. See you next week with tales of my culinary genius.

The critics were quite entertaining tonight. I like Grace, she wasn't taking it too seriously.

Taffeta · 09/11/2017 21:36

I prefer reading to watching Grace, a bit like the lovely but slightly creepy Nige.

Peregrina · 09/11/2017 21:47

What I want to know is - do the critics really sit down and eat 4 2 course meals one after the other?

Mightybanhammer · 09/11/2017 22:00

Hi Peregrina ( from westministenders) SmileWink

Peregrina · 09/11/2017 22:04

Yes, I do contribute occasionally to other threads!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/11/2017 22:22

Can't keep up during the programme.

No, I'm not Mrs Ryan! I'm old enough to be his mother, for a start. He looked very strong yesterday, but got through by the skin of his teeth on both rounds today. No spices! I don't believe that for one moment. He must use pepper and nutmeg, at the very least.

Poor young Will.

Ropsleybunny · 09/11/2017 22:33

Ryan will go next in the knock out rounds. Sadly young Will had to go. I loved the critics tonight, I’m even starting to warm to Jay Rayner.

BasiliskStare · 10/11/2017 05:17

Er - ( catching up ) did some people say they liked Greg Grin

If i turn it on and his gurning face and platitudes are the first thing I see - TV goes off ( other opinions are available) Grin

Sandsunsea · 10/11/2017 09:19

I wonder why Greg is on this show at all, he really lowers the credibility

Myfanwy - the only acceptable way to deconstruct a crumble is with a pint of custard and a large spoon! Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/11/2017 16:17

Totally agree Sandsunsea

(Oooh! That rhymes , , , Grin )

Taffeta · 10/11/2017 16:40

He’s obvs there because they blew the budget on meat and fish, judging by the whole deer leg and very expensive brill, halibut etc. Gregg obvs supplies the fruit n veg “free”.

Nettletheelf · 10/11/2017 21:56

Marcus Wareing is getting on my nerves. He keeps trying to sound posh, despite being from Southport. “The critics lohhhve their crombles”.

Also, I wish he’d shave off that terrible beard. It makes him look like an alcoholic.

In fact, bring back Michel Roux junior. The BBC can surely forgive him for the potato debacle.

Nettle - what was the potato debacle?

charliebear78 · 11/11/2017 14:52

I like Marcus-we have his Marcus at Home cookbook and the stuff we have made as been amazing and really quite simple.
However he is looking a bit unkempt his Year!

No one standing out so far-except maybe the guy with the tight too small jeans and dodgy teeth!(sorry! can't think of this name)
I also could not believe any Chef would not own any spices! I said to DP that he needed to go as soon as I heard that!
We are by no means Chefs but we do make all our meals from scratch and own far too many bloody herbs and spices!!!!

Ropsleybunny · 11/11/2017 16:01

I don't mind Greg, I do miss Michel Roux though. He was always so fair but supportive to the chefs. We once went to his restaurant, La Gavroche, and he came to our table for a chat. He's just as lovely in person.

Nettletheelf · 11/11/2017 17:31

Potato debacle: Michel was endorsing Albert Bartlett potatoes and appearing in an ad campaign. The BBC said, it’s the potatoes or us (since they didn’t want to be seen endorsing a commercial product).

Roux chose the spuds. I’ve not seen them for sale in a long while, so think he backed the wrong horse, so to speak!

Really wish he was still presenting it. He was so calm and kind to the contestants, and exuded an air of authority compared to Marcus and his strangled vowels!

TonTonMacoute · 11/11/2017 19:39

I only come on this thread once a year to say how much I loathe and detest Greg. He really is a total waste of space on the planet. Seeing him in the last episode, when they go off to one of the best restaurants in the world, and seeing him stuffing his face makes me feel homocidal.

DS couldn’t quite believe that I deliberately pause the programme for 10 minutes at the beginning, so that I can fast forward all the Greg bits, even if they are only a few seconds. He did agree that it is a massive improvement though!

And breathe...

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/11/2017 20:50

Nettle - it may be where you are in the country. We regularly buy Albert Bartlett Rooster potatoes - they are very nice and good all-rounders. Specially yummy for mash!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/11/2017 20:52

It really is a labour of love, isn't it TonTon.

Without my loathing and contempt for Gregg my life would be a hollow shell.

TonTonMacoute · 12/11/2017 09:51

I will be with you in spirit next Tuesday, Schadenfreude, when he yells out ‘Fifteen minutes left’ as my right hand grips an imaginary baseball bat!

Ropsleybunny · 12/11/2017 10:05

I only ever buy ABR potatoes. I get them in Sainsbury’s but I’ve seen them in Lidl.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/11/2017 10:30

Morries have ab spuds. They even had purple ones at Halloween.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/11/2017 11:45

I bought pure;e spuds once years ago - they were delicious but I've never seen them since, and have no idea what variety they were.
