I've always assumed that Fingers could be a bit of a thief but there's never been anything said one way or the other. Think back to series 1 - Nude Nut, Dangleberries and Baz Vegas!

Oh and as a Strictly fan Rhu, I did think that when Elvis and Georgie had been kissing then went off to his quarters, it looked like a particularly bad foxtrot the way they sashayed off screen. I must be getting over Tuesday - I can be flippant!

PS: and I nearly forgot, what about Smurf? What sort of a name is that!

Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2017 23:30

My first thought on Fingers was that he played the piano - haha! But that was actually Dangleberries (let's not go there). I suppose he could well have been in a bit of bother perhaps as a youngster and maybe nicked a few things?

Baz Vegas was from Basildon wasn't he and joked about the comparison with Las Vegas? Nude Nut - no, I just don't want to guess. As for Smurf - wasn't that a reference to his red hair?

As for the Elvis/Georgie foxtrot I feel that 'Foxtrot' should be entered into our list of thread vocabulary/euphemisms with a suitable definition where it's no longer part of the phonetic alphabet. Example being:

"Rab couldn't believe his luck as, after all the months of hints and flirtatious remarks, he and Maisie finally foxtrotted through the barrack room door."

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2017 23:59

Oh whatever happened to our book of OG euphemisms Rhu? Icebergs, chair positions, AGMs, fireside wrestling...... Perhaps we need to initiate some of our new posters into all of that!

I love the foxtrot euphemism and in the misquoted lines of CJ in episode 3 of this series "You have a wonderful way with words Rhu" (instead of Richards).

Just checking back in after Elvis' sad demise. As I'd read on here about him not filming in the other locations I can't say it was a surprise. In fact was it Ilove or Rhu perfectly predicted the plot really. I still enjoyed it and look forward to the next instalment. I hope we don't have to wait too long.

Totally agree ilove about the man in the next bed looking like CJ. I kept thinking it was him. I'm so oblivious to the minor characters that I just assumed he was some random other soldier in the next bed, I didn't realise he was another member of 2 section!

kazzaD66 · 03/11/2017 09:39

Yep rhu Baz was from Basildon, the Vegas of Essex! Brains and Mansfield Mike are obvious. Wasn't Nude Nut bald, so his nut was nude? Fingers, don't know if his background was in petty thieving or it's something else best not shared explicitly on this thread Blush ! Dangleberries, your guess is as good as mine! I thought Smurf was because he was short and his face was a bit squashed, like a Smurf?
Everyone in the original 2 Section had nicknames - even if it was just Bossman, Dawsey and Egg, but at least we knew their real names. I wouldn't have a clue what the other squaddies names were, apart from Smurf, when CJ resorted to calling him Private Dylan Smith to try to get control back on the bridge.
The newer 2 Section recruits don't seem to have nicknames, do they (putting a 'y' on the end of King doesn't really count). I certainly don't get the SF nicknames - Spanner and Dyno rod - good with plumbing and drains? Peanut? Spunky? Don't even go there Confused

kazzaD66 · 03/11/2017 09:41

Eggy, not Egg, for Kinders. Bloody auto correct!

Magi84 · 03/11/2017 11:00

The guy in the next bed who looks like BA is Ashley Houston and he played dyno. This solved another query I had from series 1. I remember being very confused at the funeral scene when an officer standing not far from Molly looked like CJ,but it couldn't be because CJ was up the front doing the reading. So I have now checked on AH and he is in fact listed as having appeared in OG 2014. So I guess that was him.

I’m guessing Peanut is called that because he’s got a big head (they had to get his helmet made specially as he has the largest head in the army)

Flowerfan · 03/11/2017 15:34

Another great ff story’ Then there were five’ a relaxing and moving read
😊😯

Notthisagainnow · 03/11/2017 16:26

Never posted on this thread before but just popping in to say I'm glad there is a group of people as over invested in the death of a fictional character as me. Blush

I keep remembering it and feeling sad. It's not healthy!!!!

confusednorthner · 03/11/2017 22:49

Had to join you as can believe I'm so gutted Ellis is gone, I was desperately hoping for a happy ending 😞

confusednorthner · 03/11/2017 22:49

Can't even !

A very late evening from Ilove Towers. I've been messing around with downloading some music and getting in a muddle but I wanted to post on here before going to sleep.

It's great we have some newcomers on here - we are mad but in a nice way. There are Elvis lovers a-plenty, though he's not to everyone's taste (personally I can't understand why but each to her own) but this thread originally started because we were all fans of Captain James.

I don't feel as out of sorts as I did on Wednesday - it was hard to tell myself this was only a TV drama and that Elvis may have died but Luke Pasqualino was very much alive, filming a Twitter thank you and heading for a glittering career no doubt! I have today, for the first time, managed to watch the "letter from the grave" scene without crying but it did take some very deep breathing and I have tried to watch it at least half a dozen times without success.

Magi thanks for the info on Dyno and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks he has more than a passing resemblance to our favourite CJ.

I don't recall Dyno actually having spoken in this series. He must have been in the initial scenes in Syria but am sure he never spoke there and I think only Elvis and Spanner appeared in episode two. If he was stripped off washing in episode 3 when we were ogling Elvis, I certainly never noticed him.

Notthis you may think mourning Elvis' passing is unhealthy but you should have been on the original thread in October 2014 when we were discussing whether CJ would pull through from his gunshot wounds. We were in a disturbed state for a week and then needed "decompression" thereafter.

Have our newcomers dipped into the amazing fanfiction which stems from Our Girl? If not, you really should. We can post the link if you need it.

Magi84 · 04/11/2017 05:32

You're so right Ilove - the our girl fanfiction is really great. I think I have read every story and waited avidly for many an update. So like you highly recommend.

I guess you're right about the actor playing Dyno they don't let him talk much! He did shout out about Taliban Tossers when he was injured, so I don't suppose he took long to learn his lines. I wonder if in some of the scenes when we think we are seeing CJ from a distance that it is actually this guy. Giving BA a bit of a rest.

I know what you mean about the death letter scene I still haven't held back the tears when watching that bit.

Delphin · 04/11/2017 09:28

"I don't recall Dyno actually having spoken in this series."

He had some very colourful lines, when he was dragged to cover after being shot. Grin

Ilovelblue · 04/11/2017 10:11

I was probably too busy drooling over CJ or Elvis Delphin. It's a good excuse to watch again I guess!

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 04/11/2017 10:24

Magi - it's hearing Elvis' voice more than the words in the death letter.

You made me spit my coffee out when you said about Dyno not taking long to learn his lines! I suppose he wouldn't get paid much if he didn't have much to say!

Hmmm, I wonder how much they DO get paid for making a series like that and having a free holiday out of it too!

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 04/11/2017 10:25

Sorry, I meant it more hearing Elvis' voice which tips me over the edge than the actual words - oh and seeing the skull when they are having the tattoos done. I don't like that - too macabre.

OP posts:
Magi84 · 04/11/2017 10:35

Well it shows what you can notice when really looking. Just sped through Ep 3 again and found one other bit from Dyno! When in the helicopter and Elvis says "it's all gone Pete Tong fellas" Dyno answers with "No change there then". Guess that means he earns his salary after all.

Agree it is E's voice rather than the actual wording of the letter that gets us going.

Great show this really not many tv progs. seem to trigger this much in depth research!

Ilovelblue · 04/11/2017 10:40

Magi, I've kept saying ever since series 1 that if I'd spent this much time and effort on my A level set texts all those years ago, I may have obtained a better grade at the end!

I reckon we could enter Mastermind based on the pilot and OG series! I will now watch episode 3 tonight after Strictly to catch more of Dyno's lines!

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 04/11/2017 10:53

Morning! I have to confess that I still haven't rewatched episode 4 apart from the fast forward to the CJ hug. I have, however, found the discussion on here very helpful. Having a laugh about things and finding the amusing bits takes some of the emotion out of it for me. I am, however, now focussing my attention on CJ's predicament going forward and hoping we won't end up in floods of tears over him at some stage apart from when he probably leaves the show - just make sure he doesn't die TG or that really would finish a bunch of hormonal ladies of a certain age off for good! Then you might have to add an extra line to your Twitter profile "Hated by middle-aged women everywhere". Grin

I'm glad to hear that your de-sensitisation therapy is going well ilove. It sound a bit like homeopathy - small doses of something harmful! Do you fancy a SCD chat later? Anyone else too?

Magi84 · 04/11/2017 11:23

Rhu - I know what you mean re CJ. My apprehension levels are definitely rising over his future. Hopefully (although don't want him to leave the series) it is just a case of him coming to the end of his need to be in the army and he resigns. Surely TG wouldn't let him be killed. Humanitarian missions are dangerous enough of course. I think BA as an actor may not want to be typecast and therefore wish to leave. Mind you he doesn't seem to get offered other good roles for some obscure reason.

We can only wait and see.
