I agree that CJ wouldn't have said a great deal to the men about his personal life but he didn't even say anything to Elvis when they sat in the mess hall having a cup of tea particularly as CJ was giving Elvis advice about Maisie at the time. He was definitely more forthcoming in series 2. I wonder if it's all got tougher for him and he's starting to find the lifestyle and separation a bit draining. It would be interesting to know just how much time a married couple like CJ and Molly, who can both be sent away on tour, would actually spend apart in a year. There might come a time when you wonder if it is worth it.

Ilovelblue · 01/11/2017 23:41

I once sat next to a guy in the office who was going through a divorce but we had no idea for six months, Men are definitely different to women! I know what you mean though Rhu. We did have that brief conversation between CJ and Elvis in series 2 at the showers but as you say, nothing at all this time.

Thank you Iloveblue that’s been bugging me for ages!
Rhubarb who knows why TV people take the decisions they take? Why did LT not want to do another series for example?! There was more mileage in Molly Dawes than Stacey Slater! GrinSeriously why not give Crimson Field another year? It made no sense

Hatethinkingofusernames82 · 02/11/2017 07:17

Episode 3 is my favourite from this series. Need to get the DVD of the first two series for a rewatch.
I thought about the ring too- but I think Elvis was always hoping they would have a reunion so may have just always had it with him. But also he may have had it with the death letter- left Georgie the letter and the ring?!! Oh that’s just set me off again!
Baby woke up last night so I had to leave episode 3 half way through- can’t wait till nap time!

Flowerfan · 02/11/2017 09:04

Morning
Elvis and Georgie ‘scene’ made it into mail on line! But be careful other pictures we don’t want to remember also there
Yes still torturing myself looking everywhere for everything OG good or bad. I do need to get on with RL at least until next series in ‘2018’
Nice morning here in Yorkshire so will get on with some much needed housework 😇😇

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2017 14:31

Afternoon everyone!

I have done quite a bit of noseying around Twitter, FB, Instagram etc and although I'm not very good on Twitter at all and only have a few things I follow (most of which I never look at anyway) I did find this which might make you feel happier Flower.

I am currently watching the last episode to see if I can see it all the way through but not sure I can manage it.

Similarly, this might make a few of you smile if you haven't seen it. Hope this link works as me and technology are not the closest of friends.

Thank you ilove and Rhu great clips and lovely of them to bother you get the impression that they really didn’t expect the reaction they got
I watched it again last night but fast forwarded the hard to watch bits. I think the photos etc posted on instagram (I can’t do twitter properly either) helped to get things into perspective well a bit anyway
Watchalong in a week or two probably without dwelling on the sad bits?!!!😏😄

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2017 18:34

Rhu that is soooooooo lovely! He is such a cheeky chappy in real life I think. I've seen a couple of other interviews he's done in the past for This Morning on ITV and he comes over as quite a charmer, just as you would expect really!

What amuses me about this interview is the gaggle of women in the studio who have miraculously appeared just to ogle Luke!

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2017 18:35

Oh and yes Flower and Rhu (and anyone else who wants to join in), a watchalong maybe the Sunday after next? We need to agree at what point we stop though - for me it would be as Georgie gets in the truck.

I would also like to say thank you all, as I came across the previous thread in Active a while back, and it got me into watching OG.
I need to watch all of Series 1 & most of Series 2.

Ooh & I loved that twitter interview with LP, especially when he read out the question about how was he like Elvis?
LP's reply, "Well we look similar. "
Grin

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2017 19:25

"We looked similar until I was blown to bits" (sorry Tracy).

Feel free to join in our watchalong - they are quite fun and usually we take the mickey ever so slightly. Rhu and I seem to have a very similar sense of humour.

Thank you I will do!

kazzaD66 · 02/11/2017 20:15

Watched some of Ep 4 again this afternoon, the CJ bits mainly Grin . I quite like the shoot out et al, I know it helps that I'm a CJ fan, rather than Elvis, but it reminds me of what 2 Section are trained to do and are capable of.
I also got much closer to the tv and paused it a few times for the hug. Obviously, the camera focused on Georgie but if you look at CJ, he's clearly in bits and is also crying Sad . And the last shot of him standing alone back in Nepal, he looks like a broken man.

Btw, how did the Taliban know yet again that the boys were coming, esp given that Azizi was dead?! And just before he got blasted, Elvis did call a ten liner, but what does that actually mean? Is it to block mobile signals, cos it obviously didn't work! I should know these things by now, given how often they've called for them over the 3 series Confused

kazzaD66 · 02/11/2017 20:32

I also like the little scenes between CJ and Kingy, with the Captain starting to question everything they are having to do and losing it a bit and his loyal Sergeant trying to pull him him back together and reminding him of his job. A complete about turn by the army through to the core captain of S1.

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2017 20:56

I'd thought it was impossible for the guys on motorbikes to know when the convoy was setting off kazza but weren't there some locals watching them from the hilltop? Maybe I need to watch again... I want to look at the hug as well. Thanks for the tip.

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 02/11/2017 21:05

I've just fast forwarded to the hug kazza and you're absolutely spot on. Thanks for pointing that out! I feel better towards CJ now. Still can't listen to the death letter.

That bit with Georgie's mother is totally superfluous by the way.

OP posts:
Delphin · 02/11/2017 21:28

kazza: "And just before he got blasted, Elvis did call a ten liner, but what does that actually mean? Is it to block mobile signals, cos it obviously didn't work! I"

It was a EODREP 10-liner announcement basically saying "I've found an IED, get the boys on their bikes! More info to come." He then started to investigate the IED to collect information to transmit to the EOD team in a full 10-liner with information sorted into 10 categories/lines/questions.

The MEDEVAC 9-liner announcement is comparable but for casualties "We have a casualty, wait for more info." (an example from the US Army: www.armystudyguide.com/content/army_board_study_guide_topics/First_Aid/9-line-medevac-request.shtml )

Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2017 21:43

Good spot Kazza. I have also done a fast forward to have a look and you are certainly right about poor CJ being in bits.

Thinking about it, CJ has had some awful times in Afghanistan - there was the tour where Smurf's brother, Geraint, was killed, the tour with Molly which turned into the fiasco on the bridge, CJ almost dying and then Smurf dying back in the UK and now this tour with the betrayal of Captain Azizi and death of Elvis. He will certainly have an awful lot to deal with.

Thanks for the confirmation Delphin about the nine and ten liners. I can remember us contemplating a lot of terms from series 1 that everyone was yelling in tense situations. Any idea who or how they could have blocked the mobile signals or is that a bomb disposal job? (a lot of us enjoyed Bluestone 42) In series 1 they managed to stop the signals in time to get Bashira's bomb vest removed. I suppose they were more prepared for the bomb on the bus in series 2 but they didn't have anyone close by for this one? Mind you I still think I'd have legged it the moment I saw the wires. Pity Elvis had to be such a pro!

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2017 21:53

Another couple of random questions from me. In series 2 when Georgie was engaged to Dr Dull and Boring, she never wore her ring as far as I can remember. She told Fingers and Monk she was engaged "and here to work" as I recall and then told both Kiki and Nafula about Dr Dull. Strange she wore the ring (except as a plot device to show Elvis) on such a dangerous mission. Would have thought jewellery would be banned.

Secondly, when they are back at the barracks in Kabul and Elvis is sitting on Dyno's bed in the medical facility, does anyone else think that sideways on, Dyno looks quite like CJ?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2017 22:02

I think she probably just had the ring on for show before the mission. Later on when CJ gives her a hug she has put the ring on the dog tag chain around her neck.

As for Dyno - to be honest I never really looked at him. I didn't really look closely at very much after about half way as I was very tense and also acutely aware that it was all going to go horribly wrong. I still haven't watch any of it again apart from the hug just now.

Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2017 22:11

Why do we reckon he's called Dyno? Some reference to Dyno-Rod? or something to do with Dinosaurs?

kazzaD66 · 02/11/2017 22:25

Don't get me started on the ring ilove . Firstly, what is Elvis doing with it on a mission in Afghanistan? What is he, the Milk Tray Man, ready for anything romantic?! (Remember when this thread was suggesting that BA should be the new MTM?Grin ) Secondly, of course Georgie can't wear jewellery like that, they don't even wear earrings, and I'm surprised that CJ didn't pull her up for flashing it around like a torch as they're off to their next dangerous assignment - but then his mind was on other things Hmm . Just a blatant plot device by TG!

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2017 22:47

I could think of a crude explanation for his nickname but I won't go into it on here. Why were Spanner and Spunky from series 2 so called? At least Fingers and Brains have obvious nicknames. There's another shot in the truck where Dyno is sitting with the other casualties and he definitely has a look of CJ there too - I thought it was CJ at first.

I still can't listen to the death letter. I think it's actually listening to Elvis' voice from the grave more than the actual words. To be honest, I haven't listened to the words - just Elvis' voice tips me over the edge. I know what you mean about not being able to concentrate on the plot - I have noticed things in subsequent watches which I missed on Tuesday. Still not been able to watch it all the way through though.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2017 22:58

Yes, I've always been a bit worried about asking why they have certain nicknames - I'm always assuming it's something rude that I just haven't gathered - I'm such a innocent! They can't all be rude/crude, surely? Confession time here though, I have no idea why Fingers is called that - please don't tell me it's dubious too? I do, however, understand why Brains is so called. Actually, I'm not sure of anyone's real names apart from the main characters.

I assumed that Spanner was so called because he had some sort of technical job? Probably not, I suppose. As for Spunky - well I wouldn't like to make a guess, here.
