Happy New Year everyone. Here's hoping for a healthy and prosperous 2018 CJ /BA can prosper all he likes, esp if we get to see it! Grin

Rhubarb01 · 31/12/2017 23:34

Evening everyone.

It's been a bit busier here than expected too. I was working between Christmas and New Year and have had family gatherings to organise and attend over this weekend. We had quite a lot of snow on Boxing Day evening here which didn't melt until Friday. It was quite seasonal but it arrived about twenty four hours too late for the big event.

The fireworks have been going off continually here since about 7pm. Goodness knows what it will be like by midnight. Well, here's to a very happy, healthy, prosperous and peaceful New Year! (A good helping of CJ would be good as well Grin)

Happy New Year everyone.

It's still quiet on here? What is everyone up to?

I went to see Paddington 2 tonight which was one of those cute feel-good films. I almost forgot Paddington wasn't a real bear at one stage. It was such a lovely happy ending that both my friend and I cried! Two sobbing middle aged women - the kids sitting behind us wondered what was happening!

Has anyone been watching McMafia? It seems to have a very complicated plot and I'm not sure my brain can keep up with all the different threads of the story. There was a woman in it who I thought I should recognise but couldn't think what she'd been in. It came to me eventually that she was Judy - Dr Dull and Boring's colleague from episode 4 of OG2.

I wonder when we'll get more info on the next OG episodes? We could do with something decent as TV has been really poor over Christmas.

Yes happy New Year.
still waiting patiently (not) for news.

At least programmes are creeping back watched Holby tonight not very cheerful I have to say!
Have recorded McMafia I thought the trailer looked a bit complicated so I had better not let it get too far ahead of me.
I hope no one gets any damage tonight the wind down the chimney sounds terrible.
Well no real news so goodnight everyone.

Morning all and happy new year. All coughs and sneezes here I'm afraid so it's linctus and paracetamol to the fore. Agree about dire TV over Christmas and am totally mystified by McMafia! Just hanging on for some news re next roll out of some OG episodes. Seems consensus of opinion is that we're going to have to wait till March or April!!! Hope that's not true. Just have to keep ourselves going with fanfiction - probably lots of rereading stories I love.

Ilovelblue · 04/01/2018 22:42

I was nearly blown away when I was out for a walk this afternoon. I thought the worst of the gales had died down by last night but it was pretty fierce out there today.

Not sure what anyone else feels, but we did talk about doing another watchalong after Christmas? Maybe starting with series 1?? Oh, those heady days of seeing CJ in those early episodes.....

You're right Magi about re-reading the ff. Mind you, there are some great new authors popping up. Have you seen the latest M rated one? (Though it's not really M rated so far). It's showing promise.

Magi84 · 05/01/2018 07:12

Yes that wind was something else, very difficult to stay upright. Not that I went out in it much just a quick trip to top up the cough linctus etc. Finally starting to feel a bit more normal with just a rather painful red nose to show for it.

I agree Ilove there are some new authors on OG fanfiction who are doing us proud so it is great to have new stuff to read as well as going over beloved oldies.

I do hope you get a watch along organised although I'm no good at keeping up with watching and posting but I absolutely love reading all the comments that are posted. I have recently treated myself to a whole session of all five episodes of OG 1. Still my favourite.

Flowerfan · 05/01/2018 11:22

Definitely up for a watchalong of OG1 as I didn’t know about all this way back then.
Loving all the new ff and like Maggi re-reading all my favourites again.

Ilovelblue · 05/01/2018 19:55

Magi I used to do online presentations etc at work so doing a watchalong wasn't too dissimilar but I do feel quite tired by the end! I might need to do another recap myself before we start it though to see if I can repeat the script word for word. I definitely used to be able to quote it line by line. In recent months, I've just watched OG2 and more recently, OG3.

Cold again tonight and we're expecting a few frosty days. At least there was no mention of snow.

Not too good at typing and watching but still enjoyed the bit I did last time.

Rhubarb01 · 10/01/2018 09:20

Hi everyone! Sorry, been absent for quite a while and this must be my first post of the year!

I've got a rare day off so I'm taking advantage of being able to have a leisurely cup of coffee now the kids have departed for school although my dog is as bad as an attention seeking toddler at your feet all day.

I've been watching McMafia and think after the third episode I'm getting a better idea of what's happening - the Guardian online episode recaps are also good at filling in anything you might have missed.

Now for the important bit - an OG1 watchalong. I know we discussed this before Christmas and I am definitely on for one - would this Sunday at 9pm be too soon or would you prefer a different day? I need a little OG brightness in my life and OG1 is and always will be the best.

Magi thank you for the review - my chief reason for being absent so long is the writing which doesn't get any easier when squashed around everything else. However, the end is in sight - at least from my perspective - will be a few more weeks yet though!

Magi84 · 10/01/2018 09:39

Hi Rhu I for one like the sound of an OG 1 watch along whenever you girls can set it up. I am no good at posting but adore reading all the comments as it goes along.I am sure Ilove will be up for it provided the day you suggest fits and Flower is keen too. Real stalwarts of that first series one and all.

I agree with you about McMafia - have stuck with it, read the recaps in the Guardian, and I think finally cottoned on to what is going on. Not sure James Norton is at his best in it. Apparently it is almost some sort of audition for him possibly becoming the next James Bond. I can think of someone I'd prefer for that role.

Still loving your story and appreciate you fitting it in with RL which a busy business. Just happy to read it whenever you can manage.

Notice from Instagram yesterday that there is some activity with OG as the Nigeria episodes are now back in the ADR. Don't quite know what difference that makes but any kind of action going on presumably means they are getting on with setting a time schedule for it.

Ilovelblue · 10/01/2018 22:05

Hi everyone. I thought you'd all deserted the thread! It's been unbelievably quiet on here since Christmas.

Watchalong - more than happy to go for it but I am going to be away the Sunday after next (and back on the Tuesday) and then, if we wanted to do OG2 if there's time before the Nigerian episodes air, I am also away at the end of February which is a Sunday and Monday night. Looks as if Sunday nights might not be too good so let me know what other nights would suit. Sorry about this.

I had no idea what ADR meant so had to Google it but it seems they are rerecording some of the dialogue. Hopefully, this is going to bring the next episodes closer! This waiting out lark is hard - I am not a very patient person at the best of times!

What has everyone been up to recently? Hopefully we've all so far kept clear of the Aussie flu which has hit the headlines.

Hi everyone, happy new year, belatedly!
What about OG 0/the 2013 drama? Should we include it in the watchalong? Just to see the whole story arc :-).

Flowerfan · 11/01/2018 19:35

Hi everyone still here.

I also can do this Sunday and next but not the 28th. That doesn’t worry me as I love reading your comments and I had not found all this when OG1 so didn’t see the first watchalong. Happy to go along with the majority

Not been doing a lot as my car has been in the garage for 10 days so have not been far. The weather hasn’t encouraged me to do much either so lazy days. Car should
Be back tomorrow then DH’s is in for service and MOT. Expensive start to the year!!

Have been reading older ff and really enjoyed To let myself go a nice long story to get your teeth into. Mind you I have a lot of re-read favourites.

Don’t understand ADR. Does that mean they have to get them all back together? If so haven’t seen anything on OG sites.

Well now you know I’m back and waiting out!!!

Alwaysfrank · 13/01/2018 21:29

Very belated Happy New Year everyone. I'm still here! Been a busy few weeks with all the usual festivities followed swiftly by my daughter's 21st and a visit from friends for a couple of days. The thank you card they sent made me laugh - picture attached. Does it remind anyone else of a certain Captain as he might look if he were auditioning for a remake of 'Allo Allo?!

Ilovelblue · 13/01/2018 22:45

Evening everyone.

I've been busy painting garden furniture all week. It's been quite windy so has been great for getting it dry. Not the most exciting of jobs but very rewarding now it's all finished. I got hold of it for next to nothing and it looks like new now. All we need is for some warm weather to sit outside. Methinks that might not be for a while yet!

Love the thank you card Always! Happy New Year to you too.

I had never heard of ADR before until I Googled it but I imagine it's rerecording/voiceovers for bits where the sound quality isn't so good. I don't think they'd all need to be together to do that. Well, for a start, I heard that Luke P is filming down on the Costa del Sol at the moment for his new series. Anyone fancy a trip down there? Haha.

Rhu when do you want to start the watchalong and on what day?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 14/01/2018 20:59

Evening all. I'm not doing a very good job of posting regularly. Sorry!

Now, the watchalong ilove - well the best days for me when I'm most likely to be around apart from Sundays are Mondays or Fridays. Tuesday is usually OK as well. How would either of those days suit? Happy to start as soon as possible. What do you think of Delphin's idea to start with the pilot - that would be a 90 minute marathon for us. I quite like the pilot as it really gives us a sense of who Molly is and what she's overcoming when she gets to Afghanistan. However, if that's a bit too much then I'm happy to go with Series 1. How could I not be!

I went to see 'Darkest Hour' this afternoon and enjoyed it - that probably won't surprise anyone. Gary Oldman is really good in it - if he doesn't get the Oscar then I'd think him very hard done by. The only film I can remember seeing him in prior to this is 'Sid and Nancy' many moons ago during my student days. It's a bit of a jump from Sid Vicious to Churchill.

Going to watch McMafia now and try to concentrate. I'm starting to get it...I think!

eejittwo · 15/01/2018 17:52

Rhu - did you not see Gary Oldman as George Smiley in the film re-make of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy?
If you haven't seen the film, you should seek it out.
It's one of those with a cast list to die for - Colin Firth was Bill Haydon, Mark Strong was Jim Prideaux, Ciaran Hinds was Roy Bland, Benedict Cumberbatch was Peter Guillam, John Hurt was Control and Kathy Burke was Connie Sachs.

Ilovelblue · 15/01/2018 23:05

Rhu I would struggle with Delphin's idea as I gave the DVD away to Nickel and if I downloaded it, if it's still available, I wouldn't be able to comment on my laptop as we went along.

As for doing the watchalong, I couldn't do Monday 22nd, but would be ok with Tuesday 23rd. If we do Tuesdays going forward and maybe do series 2 again (depending when "Nigeria" starts), I would struggle with 20 March. Mind you, I would be in a very OG related place that week - staying at Bailbrook House, whoopee!

Pouring with rain and very strong winds here tonight.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 15/01/2018 23:26

Tuesdays sound OK to me. Is tomorrow too soon for starting OG1 or is more notice required? No problem about missing the pilot. I prefer Molly without the dyed blond hair - miss Corporal Geddings though.

eejit I did start watching Tinker, Taylor... but fell asleep, much to my shame. I must try again earlier in the evening next time. I vaguely remember the epic TV version that went on for about 12 weeks or so, I might be exaggerating!

magi thanks for your comments, I love hearing first hand tales. My dad is a similar age and has memories like yours.

Ilovelblue · 16/01/2018 00:06

I should be ok for Tuesday (today as you read this). What time?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 16/01/2018 08:07

Is 9pm OK? I have taxi duties before then but should be OK for 9pm.

Ilovelblue · 16/01/2018 09:34

9 is good for me.

Anyone else joining in?
