Yep rhu I don't know if we're meant to read anything into the complete lack of anything Molly, Sam, family-related stuff from CJ, esp given that Molly was mentioned a fair few times in S2 or whether it's just that TG wanted the focus to be on E&G and Rab & Maisie and look to the future, aiming for a new set of viewers who might not have seen S1 and know the back story? Can't quite believe that tho, he knows there's hordes of us who have invested heavily in CJ and Molly Grin

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2017 16:28

Anyone seen the teaser photo of the next mission in Nigeria that the BBC put out today? If you haven't it shows Georgie looking a bit bedraggled accompanied by two masked rebel/insurgent looking people bearing guns and implies it's her most dangerous mission yet. Unfortunately, there are a lot of negative comments below it along the lines of who's going to save her now that Elvis is no more and plenty of others saying they won't bother to watch. It's a tad harsh to say that so soon although I do wonder how or if they are going to play another of those type scenarios. I wonder how long it will be to the next series - I reckon it will be part of the new year scheduling as we know it's been filmed.

pixieg1rl · 01/11/2017 16:47

kazza I'm not an Elvis fan, so I understand where you are coming from. I'm completely untouched by it which makes me sound very harsh.

I didn't enjoy this episode as much as episode 3, but it was better than 1 and 2. I'm keen to see how this impacts on Captain James - by the looks of things he's unravelling a bit which I hope will lead to something meaty for Ben to act

I do think the lack of any discussion about family is actually pretty in keeping with his character - he never spoke about Rebecca and Sam in the first series after all. I think as a character he has the ability to compartmentalise his life, which must be a bit of a survival mechanism, but this is crumbling a little I think. That and the isolation that you must have as the commanding officer probably is a bit realistic. I've really enjoyed Kingy's contribution to this series - he's the closest for CJ to confide in, but given his conversation with him in last night's episode he's obviously got his way of coping with things all worked out.

I’m not an Elvis fan really but I did feel a bit sad especially seeing his body like that. I’d still be sobbing today if that was CJ though.

Flowerfan · 01/11/2017 17:39

Yes I don’t think I could have coped if it had been CJ I am bad enough thinking about Elvis and Georgie
Feeling a bit as if I am in no mans land now with no OG next week
Perhaps I can concentrate on RL for a bit now!! Thank goodness for all the photos from AA and OG Army

Hatethinkingofusernames82 · 01/11/2017 19:49

Hi everyone

I’m a bit late to the party but massive OG fan and only just (not really!) getting over Elvis’ death!

But I have a question- how did you all manage to rewatch season 2 again? I can’t find it on iplayer? Did you all record it last year?

Thanks

Ilovelblue · 01/11/2017 19:53

Hi there Hatethinking (maybe just Thinking?). I had it recorded from last year and also had the DVD. So.... you were an Elvis worshipper then? Have you read any of our watchalongs?

Hatethinkingofusernames82 · 01/11/2017 20:05

Thanks Ilove. Yes total Elvis fan but also just love Georgie too! Actually think I love them all! Rewatching episode 1 just now!

Hatethinkingofusernames82 · 01/11/2017 20:06

Read all of this thread last last and some of the other one too!

Ilovelblue · 01/11/2017 21:45

Rhu you are the voice of reason in all of this!

I have stayed off social media in the main today as I couldn't really think of much to say other than how out of sorts and upset I have felt most of the time. Wrong on so many levels to be so invested in Elvis' demise, who after all is only a fictional character, even though we feel he's real when there has been another terrorist attack in New York and real people have died.

That said, I decided to try and watch last night's episode again. I was doing ok, even when Elvis got blown up, but ended up crying more over the death letter and the tattoo than I did last night. I definitely felt sorry for myself most of the day. I have been renovating somebody's garden and it's harder work (more physical) than I thought and I expected sawing off tree branches would take my mind off last night but as it was quiet in the garden and I was working on my own, all I could think of was Elvis.

Mind you, it did make me smile reading about his 5 year commitment to Snatch. I mean, where I worked until recently, the job situation was uncertain for the last two or three years and we were lucky to have our jobs confirmed for a year at a time, so lucky him having it all worked out for the next 5 years!

Hello Thinking welcome to the OG gang
Hope everyone is feeling a bit better 24 hours later. I think the happy photos by the brilliant cast on instagram have helped and I feel sure they were done on purpose to cheer us up. They are so good they make it feel so real well done to them all brilliant acting
Looking forward to seeing next series in 1918 (early I hope)🤞🤗😁

Flower! Behind the times? 1918 or 2018??

OP posts:
Hatethinkingofusernames82 · 01/11/2017 22:27

Haha I laughed at flowers date mix up too. Thanks for the warm but sad welcome all! Just rewatched the first three episodes. Will rewatch ep 4 again tomorrow night! OH is away till Friday so I can get my Elvis fix without embarrassing myself too much.

Ilovelblue · 01/11/2017 22:36

Which was your favourite episode? For me, it was episode 3 this time. For series 1, it was episodes 2, 4 and 5 and in series 2, I think it was episode 3 and a few parts of episode 2, though it tended to be a bit gruesome. Actually, since you are an Elvis fan, I think it was when the SF guys came out of the helicopter and we had the first sighting of Elvis. It still makes me laugh every time I watch it.

Flowerfan · 01/11/2017 22:50

Oh dear perhaps I should’ revert to OAP name then I have an excuse!!

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2017 22:54

Oh goodness just imagine how much crying we would do over a series set in 1918! Sorry flower just joking. Smile

Definitely stags, stags everywhere at the moment in preparation for Christmas. I wonder when stags became such a thing - I reckon it started just after OG1.

Belated welcome here thinking. I think my favourite episodes for OG are:
Series 1 - episodes 1, bits of 2 & 3, 4 and 5 (all of it basically!)
Series 2 - episode 2 and 4
Series 3 - episode 3

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2017 22:57

Ok now I'm remembering The Crimson Field - musn't get started on cancelled shows again.

Ilovelblue · 01/11/2017 23:02

Rhu and Flower - if you do want to do a watchalong, I am quite happy to do it but cannot watch beyond the point where Georgie waves the engagement ring at him as they set off on the mission. Your choice - maybe in a couple of weeks?

A couple of questions by the way: why did Elvis just happen to have the engagement ring about his person? Did he always carry it with him? Was it the same ring from the last series. Do we surmise she gave it back to him after the wedding that never was?

Secondly, when they were negotiating with the Afghans in the village to buy their truck, did Elvis just happen to have a wad of Afghan currency with him? (Google tells me their currency is called the afghani, highly original isn't it?)

OP posts:
MissEliza · 01/11/2017 23:04

Rhubarb The Crimson Field was excellent. I can’t understand why it got cancelled.
My favourite episodes of OG are Series 1 eps 3 and 5 and Series 3 episode 3.
I was knackered today after a long night’s trick or treating Grinso rewatched series 1 ep 5. The restaurant scene is fabulous! Dh and I stayed in the Rpyal Crescent Hotel last year so I’ve extra reason to like it but I’d kill to know where the restaurant is.

Ilovelblue · 01/11/2017 23:07

Oh Eliza I can tell you that! The restaurant scenes were filmed at Bailbrook House - it's a couple of miles outside the city centre. Fantastic place! I was going to Bath with a friend for a ladies shopping/eating/sightseeing sort of weekend and got one of the ladies from here to make sure we sat at The Table. My friend had no idea what I had planned (she was a fan, but not the sort of fan we get on here) and thought it was all down to coincidence. I made sure I sat at CJ's side of the table!

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2017 23:10

Yes, ilove will happily do a watch along in a week or two if you like. I agree it's happy smiles time and then ending although I might fast forward to get another glimpse of the CJ hug in action. I will think of it as a variation of the gorilla grip.

As for the engagement ring - I have no idea why Elvis had a ring on him unless it was one that he carried with him for some reason or had bought it somehow while he was out there. I don't think we are supposed to question it but I did think it was odd.

I'm guessing with the money that they would normally carry local currency for emergencies. I was actually surprised that in such a rural location the farmer would just part with his truck and how fortunate it was that it was big enough for all of them.

Ilovelblue · 01/11/2017 23:12

They were probably paying well over the odds for it - it was a very ramshackle vehicle. Suspect it may not have had a valid MOT certificate! Lucky it didn't run out of fuel, though I did keep expecting it to grind to a shuddering halt.

I can just imagine being hugged by CJ though maybe not under such sad circumstances.

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 01/11/2017 23:15

The comments about CJ's lack of emotion and non-sharing of personal issues (Sam, Molly etc), I think pixie is probably right when she said it was part of his character, plus being in charge and keeping a distance between himself and his men. Mind you, I do think men find it much easier to compartmentalise than women.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2017 23:20

Good job with the fuel as I'm not sure they'd have got on very well pulling into a petrol station and asking them to fill it up!

Eliza The Crimson Field was another of those annoying decisions that TV executives make. I thought it had lots of potential and when I first read about it, the writers had planned to set a series in each year of the war but it was not to be. I expect they decided to commission more crime dramas instead.
