Tracybeaker the thought had crossed my mind about Georgie as well but apparently they are doing another 4 episodes set in Belize and then another 4 set in Myanmar or thereabouts so I suppose it's a faint hope.

Rhubarb01 · 31/10/2017 22:29

The problem with storylines like this is that I always find it so hard to watch any of it again when I know it will end badly. It tarnishes the story for me. I'm sorry but I'm an unashamedly 'Happy Ever After' kind of girl (a long time ago but I can try to believe it) and the world is so sad anyway.

Flowerfan · 31/10/2017 22:30

Trying to think of the happy scenes between Elvis and Georgie or I don’t think I’m going to sleep very well!
Goodnight everyone 🍂🍁

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 31/10/2017 22:33

Rhubarb well you never know.
Though I think they're setting up Maisie as the new lead.
Anyway I need to take my contact lenses out as they're all blurry......(whilst muttering to oneself that it's only fiction.)
And now DD has announced she wants to join the Army!

Ilovelblue · 31/10/2017 22:36

Rich I even found out that where we ate in Hale last year, LP was filming just down the road recently. I could have gone and been a hanger-on. Double whammy. At least now I've finished work, I could have slipped down there so easily and not even had to skive off work!

TG is indeed very brave.

I also don’t understand why he didn’t run when he saw the bomb! Gutted Sad

Ilovelblue · 31/10/2017 22:41

Rhu in agreement about the happy ever after. Shall we ditch the last watchalong, or at least put it on hold for a couple of weeks?

Rhubarb01 · 31/10/2017 22:45

McTufty I though Elvis called for a 'ten liner' which I believe might be a blocking of mobile signals in the area and the first couple of attempts to blow the bomb didn't work but I'm with you on the idea of don't stand about staring at it and run. I think, however, he was wondering if it could be defused or possibly realising that fate had caught up with him.

Unfortunately, I'd started snivelling as soon as Elvis and Georgie got back together and couldn't enjoy all the happy looks and smiles. I felt the ending was heavily signposted.

Just taking a step back from the sadness to say apart from that it was a great episode with lots of action and I think MK is at her best in the action scenes. I was glad to see CJ doing a lot more, being quite introspective and not just shouting 'ASAP'.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 31/10/2017 22:52

First rule of discovering an ied is move to a safe distance.
I feel a bit of a dramatic licence has taken place in this episode.

Rhubarb01 · 31/10/2017 22:53

ilove yes I'm happy to give the last watchalong a miss because I'll only start snivelling again with about fifteen minutes to go.

One thing that did make me laugh at the beginning was when Maisie asked Elvis if she was being selected for the SAS and how sorry she felt for alligators and also when they arrived at the farm and everyonel spoke to the Afghan locals in pashto but she had to say 'Morning'.

Also, the whole Kingy family focus bit was clearly a red herring. We were all scared for his future for the last two episodes but he lived to fight another day and I am liking his character.

I tend to agree that Maisie is definitely in line for the next 'Our Girl' if there is a fourth series.

Ladies, you might find this interesting. It does explain a lot, even if we don't like it.

Remember to vote at the end!

Gutted about Elvis. Also I don't get how the young girl managed to phone Maisie after she was washed up on the beach wouldn't her phone have been dead?

Ilovelblue · 31/10/2017 23:17

I am sure it would Rain. I've had phones that have died for less than being covered in salt water.

So, so sad about Elvis. I'm hoping they might have LP on some chat shows in the near future. I am sure Graham Norton would love to have him on board!

Gutted about Elvis. Only caught the last 15 mins and was hoping that he would survive. Loved Elvis. 😢

Rhubarb01 · 31/10/2017 23:23

Interesting article ilove. I completely understand why Elvis had to be written out but I still wish it hadn't happened. I like the little hint of the possibility of another love interest for Georgie - maybe, maybe not. I'm just going to put a word in here for Brains who has always liked her a lot. He'll never be Elvis but...

Ilovelblue · 31/10/2017 23:24

Georgie and Elvis showed a lot less restraint in their love scenes than CJ and Molly. If only we'd had that in the first series!

I must go to bed and stop overthinking. I was supposed to be going an hour ago!

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 31/10/2017 23:53

I've now decided that I will simply never watch the last ten minutes of that episode again. That way I can mentally end with Georgie accepting Elvis's proposal and just erase the rest of it from my mind. From now on Elvis will become another Molly and exist in a parallel world which the other characters don't discuss. Yep, that suits me!

AngeloMysterioso · 01/11/2017 07:14

Well I haven’t watched it yet but the bastard Daily Mail decided to put the plot in the bloody thumbnail of the article so I already know what’s gonna happen Angry

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2017 07:18

Morning - back again and, sad to say, feeling just as gutted about Elvis as I was last night. However, I just wanted to give a thought to poor CJ in all of this as Elvis was his friend - aren't they supposed to have been at Sandhurst together? When he gave poor, distraught Georgie that comforting hug I realised he was just as much in need of it as her. With the way things have gone down in Afghanistan and remembering his words about "Never again" I'd be amazed if he hasn't decided to leave the army by the end of episode 12, if not before. I just hope it's with the intention of a career in civvy street and to raise a brood of little James's with Molly.

One small aside, you know the writers, actors, directors etc have done something right when you feel affected by what happens - putting aside any gripes we've had about realism, plot, dramatic licence etc - there's nothing worse than investing time in a drama and just not caring what happens to the characters (and I've struggled from time to time with Georgie but not by the end of this episode) so a well done to all of them.

Flowerfan · 01/11/2017 07:41

Morning
Yes I am also still upset about Elvis but also like you Rhu thinking about poor CJ Elvis was his best friend and I thought the hug was lovely for them both
Definitely a lead up to him leaving the army though in this series
Thanks for the radio times link a five year contract for an actor is a dream come true but sadly not for us it helped to put things into reality a bit though. Still so sad and I agree at the moment no watchalong for a while. How can we have got so INVOLVED in a tv series shows how good it is!!!😏

Magi84 · 01/11/2017 08:28

Can't believe how this tv programme has affected us. Feeling almost bereft this morning. Agree wholeheartedly Flower and Rhu the impact on CJ must be immense. Feel sure as you say it will mean his departure from the army at the end of this series. Apart from the little niggles re telephones that really shouldn't carry on working and not moving away rapidly from an explosive device, I really think this series has had depth and some pretty amazing acting. MK has shot up in my estimation for one.

MissEliza · 01/11/2017 08:53

What was the point of the ‘Tara’ storyline? At first I thought there was going to be a whole thing about child trafficking but then the plot went in a different direction. They didn’t do the issue justice. Also I don’t remember Rab handing over his charger when he gave it to her so she must have been bloody resourceful to charge it Hmm. Also Rab will be in for a shock when he sees his bill with all the video calls she was making.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 01/11/2017 09:20

I wonder if CJ is going to have a breakdown or something?

kazzaD66 · 01/11/2017 11:39

Just watched last night's ep. I know I'll probably be lynched, but I can take or leave Elvis and his demise, although I did prefer him in this series compared to the last - just seemed a nicer person and the sharper haircut helped! We knew it was coming because he hasn't been filming in Malaysia and it was so heavily signposted with the fresh engagement. But seriously, who sticks around when they see a bomb!! Reading the TG interview, I think he took the most realistic option if he knew LP couldn't do any more. Even if he didn't die, surely the situation would be just like Molly and CJ in that couples shouldn't work together, so we probably wouldn't have seen Elvis anyway.

Talking of my favourite couple, still can't believe there was no mention of Molly, even when Monk was talking about East London. Sam seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth aswell. When there was so much talk about families and home life this series, it would have been completely natural for CJ to mention them, even given his officer reserve, esp as the guys know Molly.

Not enough of CJ /BA again this week. I also felt for him re Elvis' death. After all, he was his best mate and he knew him longer than Georgie did. Agree with others that he needed that hug just as much as she did. He looked lost in that final shot of him back in Nepal. His disillusionment with life, the army or both has also been heavily flagged, so it would be great to get a bit more insight into that in the next series - hoping it's just the army and nothing to do with Molly Confused And is he ever going to be promoted to Major?!

Btw, did they still fail to capture Omar, or did I miss something?

God fed up with the story keeping going back to Tara. God, that girl's got 9 lives and a mobile to match Hmm I really couldn't care about her storyline and was certainly fed up that they ended the series with her and what's his face back in Nepal and Ma Lane popping up again in Manchester Kuala Lumpur quite unnecessary in my book!
OG is at it's best when it concentrates on 2 Section and 'proper' soldiering, which was why Ep 3 was the best for me.

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2017 14:03

Don't worry Kazza we won't be lobbing anything at you just because you are a little less enamoured with Elvis than the many of us. I was, however, left thinking how we might have reacted if CJ had died in series 1. I think I'd still be snivelling about it now if that had happened.

Re: the comments about Tara's phone battery, I have to admit I wondered more than once how she was charging it. I actually thought that Tara's story might continue into the next series as she was bent on getting to Europe. She also seemed to travel remarkably quickly and I couldn't work out the timescales. I also had no idea how she was supposed to be managing. When they mentioned her paying for her passage I was wondering where she had obtained the money unless she was supposed to be using the money from Da Chand's pocket? Surely, she'd have needed more than that?

I seriously do think I might only ever watch this episode up to the moment they all leave for the last Omar mission and just forget the rest of what happened. Long-term I think/hope we are going to see a lot of more of the way it affects CJ and as already mentioned I find it strange that he makes no reference to anything in his personal life. I wouldn't be expecting chapter and verse as obviously he's an officer and wouldn't want to share lots of details but he was so silent about everything even when there were moments it might have been appropriate to say something that it was a bit strange.
