There is a picture of Mark Armstrong minus beard on Instagram.

Ilovelblue · 26/11/2017 17:14

Is this the one Magi?

Yes Ilove that's the one. Doesn't Patrick McNammee look young.

Ilovelblue · 26/11/2017 20:12

This popped up just now and should be about 15 people you would like to see on Strictly. It made me laugh, given our conversation on here last night. Mind you, there are still a couple of names on there I've never heard of.

Susan Calman was a very good sport when she had to leave. I was snivelling with her.

Who do we think will go next - I think it should be Mollie probably.

Yes, he certainly does look young Magi. Maybe he will look a bit more mature once we see him in his uniform. I think BA and LP look quite a lot older in army uniform than in real life.

I’m in deep mourning over the beard rhu, (actually I’ve got horrible flu and I’ve been in bed since Saturday), but I’m sure it will grow back. Mark was getting a bit Hagrid with the hair and beard, they’ve given him quite the chop though.

(And yes, I did get to stroke the beard last xmas, which was a bit of a treat!)

Ilovelblue · 28/11/2017 23:18

Sorry you're not well pixie. Flu is horrible and knocks you for six. Hope you feel better soon. Think of CJ (or maybe Spanner) looking after you. I'm sure they'd make very good nurses.

Rhubarb01 · 29/11/2017 20:48

Evening. Sorry been AWOL for a while.

So sorry to hear you aren't well Pix. I must admit that for the first time ever I invested in a 'flu jab this year after a few unpleasant bouts in the past so I am pinning my hopes on it. Anyway, Dr Rhubarb prescribes a hot toddy and four ministrations of CJ's bedside manner per day! Mind you, that would probably end up prolonging your incapacity for as long as you could get away with it Grin

Just wanted to say thank you for the lovely review magi. The FF review system is having one of its glitch phases but I've seen it on my email so much appreciated.

Anyone likely to be around for SCD chat on Saturday? I will try to come up with my shortlist of fantasy couples and ideal dances by Saturday if I can get my head round it. If my musings extend far enough I might suggest outfits and music too!

Magi84 · 30/11/2017 06:00

Glad you got the review Rhu as I realised there was some sort of problem with them on fanfiction.

Looking forward to the possibility of fantasy SCD and have great admiration for your and Ilove's imaginative musings on this sort of thing.

kazzaD66 · 30/11/2017 17:44

Apologies for the cross-contamination on ff rhu but your descriptions of young flyers being scrambled and evenings down the pub just reminded me of First Light and I couldn't help myself ConfusedBlush

Rhubarb01 · 30/11/2017 17:47

Evening! Bit of a digression here but only slightly.

I don't know which of you lovely people left the review for me a little while ago but firstly thank you, I really appreciate it. Secondly, however, you really got me wondering who I see in the role. I've got to admit that as much as I liked Colin Firth in the best version on TV, he's not necessarily in my mind's eye for this but not it's not entirely BA in his 'First Light' role either. I reckon it's a fusion of several different people - I always rather liked David Rintoul in the early 1980's version of P&P - something to do with the height, dark hair and intense stare mainly - google if you need to (I recommend the young man pictures!)

It's funny that when 'First Light' was first broadcast I definitely noticed BA as the dark rather handsome and at times brooding chap but now I can see how accurate a portrayal it was. He's very young in the drama but probably the right age for the role. He's looked upon as the older more experienced pilot in the squadron by the main character in the story who's nicknamed 'Boy' (19 yrs old?) but the officer is still ridiculously young, probably no more than 23 or 24. See I said it was only a slight digression.

Rhubarb01 · 30/11/2017 17:51

Ahh! Unmasked Kazza! Thanks very much. Well, you can see what I thought above. Anyway, there is something of a military theme in my interests and even Jane Austen had a thing about soldiers and uniforms! Crikey, she knew a thing or two when she created the perfect blueprint for romance, didn't she!

kazzaD66 · 30/11/2017 17:59

I really liked Rupert Penry-Jones in the tv adaption of Persuasion. He gave CJ a run for his money in the smouldering stakes Blush . Was it you rhu or someone else that wrote a fantastic OG ff spin on Persuasion, but then took it down from the site? It was a shame, whoever it was, because I used to enjoy re-reading it from time to time.

eejittwo · 30/11/2017 18:11

Rhu - I've always had a soft spot for David Rintoul!
I do recall reading somewhere that 'posh' English hadn't conquered the whole of England by the late 18th century, so that Darcy (who we are led to believe was educated at home rather than at Eton) would sound more like Sean Bean than Colin Firth's sarf London. But as a theory it may have been shot down long ago.

Rhubarb01 · 30/11/2017 18:12

The Persuasion story was Whajeb I think? Was it called 'Persuading Charles'? I think Persuasion is my second favourite novel. I've always loved the idea of long-suffering Anne getting a second chance at love after eight long years of yearning and pining.

As for RPJ - ooh yes! I've got that version on DVD. (One of our naked fireside wrestling contenders). I much prefer it to the version with Ciaran Hinds. Just me! I've always liked him 'The Thirty Nine' steps too. Of course, Jane Austen employed the uniform in that as well!

Rhubarb01 · 30/11/2017 18:20

That didn't make sense - obviously Jane Austen didn't write The Thirty Nine steps - I meant RPJ was in it. As for the uniform - well Wentworth was a Captain wasn't he!

eejit that's fascinating about the accents. Imagine if Darcy did sound like Sean Bean and kept calling Elizabeth "Lass". It's all getting a bit like 'Sharpe' now isn't it.

kazzaD66 · 30/11/2017 18:41

Yes, that's the story rhu . I wish it was still posted....and where has whajeb gone? Going back to First Light, they were very young, so BA would have been acting the right age. The main character, Geoffrey Wellum (Boy) was only 18 or 19 but Sam Heughan was about 10 years older than that when he played him, although he didn't look it. But he certainly looks completely different now, if you see him in Outlander!

eejittwo · 30/11/2017 19:19

Rhu - there is a 'real' connection between Sharpe and P&P!
The penultimate Sharpe, Sharpe's Justice, which wasn't based on any of Cornwell's books, featured Douglas Henshall as one George Wickham, an officer in the local yeomanry.
As you will recall, Darcy gets Wickham and Lydia sent to Newcastle, but they have to keep running away from their debts, so it's quite plausible they end up in Keighley.

Rhubarb01 · 30/11/2017 19:38

How fascinating eejit. I'm assuming whoever wrote that had a sense of humour or was indeed a P&P fan. Bit of a 'crossover' fanfic if you like! As you say, it was definitely the correct era.

catyloopylou · 30/11/2017 21:45

Hello. Massive OG and especially Elvis fan here. I have spent the last week doing nothing but reading your last few threads, googling OG cast interviews, reading fanfiction (I never knew such a thing existed until this week as mentioned on one of the threads here) and re-watching all three series of OG on Amazon twice over! I watched the Nepal Tour a few weeks after it aired so I've been playing catch up.

I am so behind with everything I should have been doing instead of watching TV but am so thankful to have found people who also seem heavily involved in the characters and their lives. Not sure I could tell anyone in RL as they'd think I've completely lost it, but something about the Nepal Tour in particular just resonated with me and I've shed a million tears over the ending. Gutted beyond belief, but funnily enough however many times I watch episode 4 it still ends the same way!

So I just wanted to pop onto the board to introduce myself, pore over photos of Elvis (although I do also like CJ) and wait with you all for the next series to begin. I don't post very often on MN but I will be in the background watching and waiting, so if anyone wants to post more photos of Elvis I'll be a happy woman! I've even downloaded a few episodes of the Musketeers to watch when I feel LP withdrawal symptoms, although I don't like the long hair so much.

And as for SCD, I think Aston should have been in the final right from the second week so i'm very disappointed, and Mollie should go. Gemma is growing on me, as are Joe and Davood, but although Alexandra is really good I just don't warm to her. Debbie is amazing too. Somehow I don't feel as invested in this year's line up as usual. Probably because i'm still mourning Elvis.

Ilovelblue · 01/12/2017 19:07

Hi all. Been absent for a couple of days and there seems to have been a flurry of activity - great!

Rhu I should be able to do the Strictly commentary with any luck. I need Debbie to win for the most money from my bet (7/1) and of the other two we have (Alexandra and Gemma), I do like Gemma and not keen on Alexandra. However, I do have quite a soft spot for Joe, so if none of my bets win, it is Joe I would like to take the Glitterball.

Welcome loopylou (is that the diminutive that you prefer or would it be cat? We are obsessed but in a good way we think. Some of us have been here since the very first thread but we have collected a number of new fans along the way. I am sure reading back some of our threads must make us seem totally mad! There are some amazing fanfics out there at the moment. Poor Elvis' death seems to have sparked a number of new creative talents.

I had never even heard of Luke P until the previous series aired but was soon very smitten and as you will have read in some of my witterings, I, like many others, was moved to tears when he got himself blown up. I never watched The Musketeers and I agree, the long hair didn't float my boat. You know how clever Google is at knowing what you're searching for and it threw this link up yesterday. It's a bit naff in parts (and the interviewer is not my cup of tea in the slightest and only serves to make LP even more handsome) but LP has some interesting snippets about both The Musketeers and OG.

It made me laugh when he said that in The Musketeers, they had to have people helping them into their costumes initially. Maybe we could have assisted with that important role.

I am interested to see how CJ's character develops during the next episodes. Will Molly get mentioned and we have heard nothing of little Sam.

Ilovelblue · 01/12/2017 19:08

Oh and loopylou I have a number of photos of Elvis and CJ if you want them. They are on my phone so I will have to send them later.

catyloopylou · 01/12/2017 21:50

Ooh Ilove I would love to see some more photos. I need something to keep me going through the winter. I do hope CJ has more of a role in the next series as he seemed a little superfluous in the latest series.

I just watched that interview link you posted. The interviewer is a bit rubbish but I'm now looking up Inside No. 9 to see LP in that as it was mentioned in the interview.

Just singing the Kooks song She Moves in Her Own Way to myself. I can't get it out of my head.

I don't mind what you want to call me, I answer to most things! Loopylou is fine.

Ilovelblue · 01/12/2017 21:56

Here you go. Not sure what I've posted earlier though.
