I thought that kannet but what would the balance of £600 and odd be worth in today's terms? I watched it a few days ago when Gail was worried about Nicky being teased if people found out that Audrey had two kids without being married with different dad's...

BluthsFrozenBananas · 29/03/2018 14:49

The credit card thing was totally unrealistic. The shop would have wanted to make the sale, especially as it was quite a large purchase. At the very least they would have offered to put the goods aside for an hour so Alf could go to the bank to withdraw the cash. They wouldn't have sent him out with a flea in his ear, even in 1988.

Housewife2010 · 29/03/2018 16:51

I liked it a couple of days ago when Percy was berating Martin for his poor posture. He used Bet as an example of good posture. "This new bra is very supportive" she replied.

x2boys · 29/03/2018 16:55

Just watching these old episodes reminded me just how much Percy sugden looked like my Grandad although he wore. a trilby not a cap he was also a cook in the army during WW11 (and didnt we know It!) Smile

kikashi · 29/03/2018 17:48

x2boys Grin. My dad looked very like Alan Bradley (even wore the same style jackets and trousers) - friends kept commenting on it especially later with the Blackpool business.

This sounds weird but can't help but notice how nice Emily's figure was

ahh, I missed episodes, it did not record on my Freeview box and I had to retune it!

CoolCarrie · 04/04/2018 21:22

She is a pretty woman, and has aged well.

Olddear · 05/04/2018 16:47

I'm still a bit behind, I can't believe how thick Gloria's hair is!

Watched Ivy's wedding today, and along with other CC 80's weddings it occurred to me that in those days they portrayed the whole wedding, vows and all - whereas nowadays they just show the bride arriving then cut to the reception after the commercial break. That's assuming the wedding goes ahead at all, of course - another feature of 80s soap weddings was that they actually went ahead, usually without any major catastrophes (barring Jack accusing someone of nicking his suit.... Grin)

Kannet · 06/04/2018 07:05

I loved Ivy's suit. It's aged well it could be worn now.

Ooooh Alan is starting to turn bad

ChildOfTime · 07/04/2018 09:02

Wow, Ivy's suit was very similar to the one I wore when I got married in 1989! Mine only had the one row of buttons and they were cream.

CoolCarrie · 07/04/2018 18:34

It’s well done that Alan slowly shows his true colours.

kikashi · 08/04/2018 09:06

Child Ivy's suit was lovely - I'm sure yours was too. I really like Ivy this time round, such a lovely smile. I feel she has rushed into things with Don - loved her shocked face when Don had just assumed and had told his mother he'd be moving into Ivy's house, cheeky beggar.

Agree. Silence I liked the wedding and how the ring gets placed near the top of each finger when saying the vows in RC weddings - brought back memories. I went to a lot of weddings in the late 80's (as I was in my mid 20's). Love seeing the fashions. I had Audrey's dress - the one she was wearing dancing around Ivy's living room. I wore it to work - it was so smart. Had forgotten the popularity of pastels, I never wore them much as was more of a black clothes girl (still am) but think the pastels look nice and fresh now.

SilenceMeansWhatAreTheyUpTo · 08/04/2018 10:05

kikashi Yes, we did that thing with the rings as well at our RC 80's wedding. My older married sisters, "Matrons of Honour" (do we even still use that term?), wore suits very much like Ivy's in style, but in a peach fabric. And my school friend and SIL, who were bridesmaids, wore matching meringues. Grin

Counting down to December 1989 when this hunk of burning love arrives

For some reason I always imagine Rita wafting about in a cloud of Ester Lauder Youth Dew....

Kannet · 09/04/2018 10:24

We are still in 88 aren't we

SilenceMeansWhatAreTheyUpTo · 09/04/2018 10:57

Yes, Ivy got married in 1988 just a couple of weeks before me!

ChevalierTialys · 09/04/2018 15:51

I loved Ivy's wedding, and Brian&Gails second wedding. All the CC weddings just seemed to be so straightforward. Easy, full of love, sometimes with a little comedy drama from an attendee (looking at you, Jack) but none of the overdone angst and nonsense of soap weddings these days.

There was the scene the other day where Ida told Mike it was her who dobbed him in for drink driving and it made me laugh so much I watched it 4 times then recorded it on my phone and sent it to my mum.

kikashi · 11/04/2018 21:33

Loved Mavis's outburst on the woes of being a middle aged single lady (in Alf's shop) and how it escalated.
